Against the backdrop of the dramatic altar and Lucas Granach paintings, Bernarda Fink and the English Baroque Soloists perform Gardiner’s fresh interpretation of this classic piece. For the renowned conductor, this Weimar concert is a special performance, marking the start of his Bach Cantata Pilgrimage. With this concert, Gardiner shows himself once again to be an incontestable specialist of Bach’s music.

It must have been John Eliot Gardiner's encounter, as a young boy growing up on an English farm, with one of the two authentic portraits of Bach that was left with his father by a German refugee, that triggered his lifelong love of Bach's music. For me, Gardiner always sets the correct tempo and orchestrates the right musical spirit in each of the many performances he has conducted of Bach's work.

Was mich an Frau Fink so beeindruckt, ist ihre Konzentration. Kein Blödsinn, keine Schauspielerei, so passend zu ihrem Bach-Auftritt, so schön. Und natürlich ihre wunderschöne Stimme..Diesen großartigen Auftritt wird noch lange nach uns Eindruck machen.
