Thanks. It is very unusal how they are held together and we have heard of a number being damaged when people do not know how they come apart, which is why we wanted to share the information. Hopefully if someone gets stuck in the future this video will help them. Take care
Thanks 👍 We have not see a cylinder that comes apart in this way before and wanted to share the information. We have been meaning to do this job for a while now and I am pleased we have now done it. Take care
Thanks, this cylinder is unusual and we wanted to share that information. It is interesting you should mention the Thor hammer, this is something dad was given new a lot of years ago and made by a good old UK company that was formed in the 1920's. They company does sell them from their web site but I do not know how much shipping would be to you www.thorhammer.com Take care
Good training video! If you've rebuilt a hydraulic cylinder you can do a pneumatic cylinder. We use to add what we call mufflers (restrictors) on the Pneumatic solinoid valves to slow down the cylinders some. Another good job well done.
Thanks. We have rebuilt a few hydraulic cylinders recently and learning as we go. At some point we need to rebuild the pneumatic cylinders and the control valves on the tyre changer. I am pleased to hear that they are similar. Take care
Thanks 👍 We have not come across any other hydraulic cylinder that has the unions holding it together. We wanted to share that information as you would not believe how many of these cylinders get damaged when people take them apart. Take care
for some reason, I didn't get a notification of this video, but I found it anyway.. I have never had the cylinder on my Bolens apart actually, I would not have known how to get it all apart, great how to video.
Thanks. It is very odd how these come apart and we have heard of them being damaged when people try to do it wrong, which is why we wanted to make this video. I hope it is helpful to someone. Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy I used to work at a underground cable company and with the DitchWitch and Case equipment there are many ways the cylinders come apart but I never worked on like the one you redid.
Hello Joseph, Good video... the "How To" type videos on the Bolens will be great for other owners... good work by you and the cameraman. Take care. Paul,,
Thanks for the kind words. This is the only cylinder we have come across that comes apart in this way and we wanted to share that information as we have heard of a number being damaged. Take care
Thanks. The cylinders used on Bolens are very unusal, we have never come across anything else that is held together by the unions. We have the cylinders to rebuild on our Iseki loader at some point, these will be more straight forward to take apart but more complicated inside. Take care
Thanks 👍 We have heard of these cylinders getting damaged because some people do not know how they come apart which is why we wanted to share this information. Take care
Nice simple design on that cylinder....I did the gland nut seal on my old JD 310c backhoe outrigger, kind of a pain. Luckily I didn't need to rebuild the whole cylinder... Also gives me the idea that a person could probably scratch build these cylinders pretty easily
Thanks. The Bolens cylinder is very unusal and we wanted to share the information about how to take it apart as we have heard of many being damaged. We have a number of airports close to us including a miltary one, so lots of planes. Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy Good day Joseph, You did told me were your living last year and during both WW it was an active region for sure on the RAF side of thing 👍😊 Cheers 🍻
I saw a guy rap a carb with a steel wrench. He broke it. I use the soft handle of a screw driver for float shaking. Did you hone the cylinder? Did you use Teflon tape on the unions? Nice video. Good Luck, Rick
Thanks. We did a very light tap on the carb but I guess it would have been better to demonstrate with something softer. We did not use teflon tape on the unions as we had a hydraulics person tell us that it was a bad idea when we did it on the LF snow blade cylinder. We did not hone the cylinder but I guess that would have been worth doing lightly. Take care
Good job on the cylinder rebuild. Would be interested to know the stroke travel of the original cylinder to move the lift arm from fully raised to fully lowered position
Thanks. We have just put the 1054 with the hydro lift back in storage and the rebuilt cylinder is now installed on the G12, however the G12 is the next tractor we plan on getting running and once it is working we will measure the travel. We were chatting about the cylinder after making this video and something we realised is that it would not be too difficult to make a replica cylinder from scratch which would be an interesting challenge. Take care
I would have never guessed those "pipe" fittings held that whole thing together. Good knowledge to have, thank you.

Congrats on a job well done . All back together and ready to give a try around the place. Thanks and take care Joseph

Great job on the hydraulic cylinder rebuild! I enjoyed it and learned from it! Your “Thor” hammer is cool - I need to try and find one like it! 👍👍👍
