You get it man, it's whatever pedals they have laying around that they use. Always been the case and it drives me mad that people complain that they don't use the exact gear when reverb doesn't have it on them.
this guy isn't a bad player, but the BD-2 just doesn't push hard enough for Morello's sound. I'd honestly thinking about swapping it out with something like an SD-1 or even a ProCo Rat.
There are actually alot of videos where Tom goes through his rig and what he uses.. all of his pedals are fairly generic I'm surprised that none of them were used in the video? (except whammy)
The Brainiac i think it has to do with the blues driver and the guitars he's using,i would have gone with a much more pricey but polyvalent earthquaker palisades or the still cheap OCD distortion
I guess the blues driver is what makes the tone lack that low end/grit on the distortion, feels thin tbh. But apart from that the whammy and tremolo part was almost identical, overall I appreciate yall at Reverb for putting these out big thanks 💯
I was just going to say something very similar. A lot of comments here are complaining about the lack of power, but if you listen close to what's going on, Tom's stuff is pretty clean. Most of the grunge comes from the bass.
0:34, any time I try this with my Whammy Pedal 5th gen it sounds like a church organ, it's 2 octaves up fully depressed. Is there anything special to do in order to get this sound? Pls someone help :'(
Azazel Raiden that’s why he’s one of the best guitarists in the world and has sold millions of records and oh by the way introduced a whole new meaning to pedals and creativity with guitar.
this was actually a very informative barebones instructional video for a novice like me wanting to know how tom achieved his sounds...... thanks reverb...
Sorry, but I want to know how this schecter guitar has a kill switch. It’s homemade by a luthier, ir there is a schecter hellraiser model with kill switch?
it's the guitar toggle switch. Use something with two pickups and a volume control for each pickup, set one to max and one to 0 - Then use the toggle switch to chop between signal and no signal.
This potent pairing is sad. You guys should've used a JHS Angry Charlie because Tom Morello uses a Marshall. The Blues driver is so weak and has no sustain.
Tem q ser uma guitarra cm configuração de volume para cada captador. Você zera o volume de um captador e deixa o outro normal, ae vc vai movendo a chave seletora
First, lose the humbucker guitars, single coil, neck position all the way. Then use a british marshall kind distortion, Marshall Guv'nor classic works well, a JHS Angry Charlie could work also. The rest is ok IMO.
Who thinks the catalinbread dirty little secret is a much better foundation drive than the blues driver? Legendary Andy Martin when doing pro guitar shop’s riff of the day, used a dirty little secret and the Digitech whammy for know your enemy. I think he also used the CMat-mods brownie for bomb track, and an MXR distortion there for killing in the name of.
Yes he did at the time of the recording he got rid of it about the time when audioslave was formed bc it was unreliable he said ....all that flanging effects on the first album was an Ibanez flanger just they were crap and would sht out easy he now just uses the mxr phase 90 when playing it live

I thought he used an EMG H, which is a Humbucker sized version of the S single coil
@@Mr.Goldbar No its a custom. SORRY IT IS A EMG H! Im sorry! :(

Actually, most of his stuff were recorded with the tele' next pup.
Idk if it was on purpose but i love how you mostly use pedals he never personally used to get the same sounds
You get it man, it's whatever pedals they have laying around that they use. Always been the case and it drives me mad that people complain that they don't use the exact gear when reverb doesn't have it on them.
Great playing and Morello technique but that blues driver sounds weak in this context.
Especially in guerilla radio
Effects Junkie Except in Killing in the Name where there's to damn much.
Also he played it with a Flanger instead of a Phaser and Sleep Now in the Fire wrong.
Totally.
Some of the parts were absolutely spot on but anything using the Blues Driver was weak as fuck.
Not having Tim Commerford's massive bass sound behind it makes a difference, too.
this guy isn't a bad player, but the BD-2 just doesn't push hard enough for Morello's sound. I'd honestly thinking about swapping it out with something like an SD-1 or even a ProCo Rat.
Bro the Rat is the way to go! I can NAIL Tom's tone with mine with a wah, whammy, delay, and phaser after it
I use an SD-1 for Morello stuff all the time and it’s perfect. The player is perfectly fine in this video but the effects fell short.
The rat is probably my favorite distortion pedal of all time
@@Groovetwig What do you set your SD-1 to for RATM sounds?
@@thesteelstrummer2307 what settings do u use?
I'd lose the blues driver and stick to single coils. Some of the solos were okay, but the overdriven parts were too chunky.
I thought "Know Your Enemy" was the closest out of them all.
It needed to be a tad bit faster
Hey do you know what guitar is used in the fist song of this video? It would be nice to know
Yeah it would be good to know

This one didn't really sound like Tom. Sorry, Reverb but this was not too good.
Except the intro of Killing in the Name.
+Teun Music Productions the solo sounded really close
i disagree, it sounded so much like tom
oh and Killing In The Name was pretty accurate so i'd say it was the best one of hte bunch
William Allison it's just hard to get the same tone without the guitar
In killing in the name tom uses a phaser, not a flanger

literally all Tom Morello used was a JCM 900 cranked as fuck. and his effectes were a Boss Trem, DD-2, Digi Whammy, A Wah, and a Phaser or flanger.
***** that one is definitely similar to what he uses, but mxr distortions aren't that versatile
Maybe, but It was still a damn good demo.

This video freaked out my dog
Michael Lewis me too
for anyone looking at this video and thinking that it sucks.. yeah.. they got the distortion totally wrong, get something with more power like an OCD
it doesn't suck, they got the distortion totally right
How much did the guys from fulltone and earthquaker pay you? Asswipe.
Nice man......Thanks, you helped me a lot. Greetings from Bolivia.🇧🇴🇧🇴🇧🇴
I love it!
Great that you kept it short under 10 minutes, because I am not very patient :)
dunno if toms amp gain was cranked, thought most of the power came from timmys bass
Adrian Cecchin guitar pickups
I was just going to say something very similar. A lot of comments here are complaining about the lack of power, but if you listen close to what's going on, Tom's stuff is pretty clean. Most of the grunge comes from the bass.
Tom cranked all his distortion up and cleans it up with his volume on his guitar 👍

Anthony Hernandez the 4th gen should sound most similar to the original, is that right?
Thank you so much. I have a grade 8 exam piece that needs a Tom Morello styled solo and this is gonna really help out. :D
this is kinda insulting to Morello honestly.
Austin Black tom morello is an insult to begin with

What guitar do you start using at 1:40 ? And what is that silver pedal you put in called ?
He' s using the crybaby wah pedal by dunlop, it' s a cult symbol in ratm songs
@Mike Weedus correction, that's an Xotic FX Wah
William Allison sorry sir
Does Tom Morello have a crybaby wah pedal anyway?
What was the guitar at 0:14?
3:41 is that on delay or echo on the Ibanez DE-7
How to sound like tom morello when he is drunk after an heavy lunch.
Next one... Jonny Greenwood :D
Hell yesss and ed o brien maybe?
+Tele Caster It could be Radiohead, and they could cover the best parts of Jonny and Ed.
But still, I would love to see a Jonny episode
That was a fantastic video! Loved the simple, straight-forward format!
Needs a cranked JCM800, a lot of the tones don't have enough amp gain/compression. EDIT: Lotta the scratching techniques sounded on point tho
Whenever I try the toggle switch trick, it stiffens up and I'm afraid I'm going to break it.
this was actually a very informative barebones instructional video for a novice like me wanting to know how tom achieved his sounds...... thanks reverb...
What the fuck is this guy trying to do? :))
Tom uses a Marshall amp. Dirty Little Secret pedal should suffice.

What kind of guitar is the red one??
I would personally go with an mxr distortion + or something like that over the blues driver
What's with the strings hanging off the headstock?
I know these sounds that Tom Morello uses these pedals from GH 3 including that Tom Morello guitar battle songs. What about audio slave?
How often does Morello change his switches?
oscar saludos desde boliva muy buen video :D
Does anyone know his guitar make? Or a guitar make that has two pickups with volume knobs?
Digitech Whammy 4 PD-1949?
BLUES DRIVER 🔥
What is your guitar??
I think its a sheceter hell raiser
Step one - get a telecaster and set it on the neck pick-up.
pretty sure he uses an MXR Dist. + rather than the Blues Driver.
Tom doesn't use any distortion or overdrive pedal. It all comes from his JCM 800 2205 for his main tone and his EQ thats set for a boost for solos.
Simon Gatty Saunt he used a mxr for recording (apparently)
Try that setup with a distillery boost pedal and it will sound more powerful
where is the telecaster?
Testify?
What guitars are they
Bulls on parade was spot on btw
MARSHALL AMP CRANKED it's not hard

Good day. May i ask you sir where can i find the killswitch that use in this video. Thank you
it's the guitar toggle switch. Use something with two pickups and a volume control for each pickup, set one to max and one to 0 - Then use the toggle switch to chop between signal and no signal.
what guitar is he using?
Can you do Audioslave next?
Could you guys do one on jerry garcia?
Ok, I know I’m late to say this, but Tom’s setup is pretty accessible, beside the OG whammy and the dod eq. Why go thru these extra steps?
Where’s the Digitech Spacestation?
Is tom de long playing?

I know Tom plays in the neck but does he ever use single coils? I’m guessing he would probably use hot rails instead?
@Gupster 23 actually yes he does, I realized it now!
@Gupster 23 yes, and I’ve used both for my band at rehearsals and gigs. Although the humbuckers have a stronger bite to them!

I think Morello used a proper Distortion pedal, not an overdrive. Can't remember if a MXR or a BOSS one.
There's a rig rundown with Tom saying he gets all his gain from the JCM800
wah pedal on fx loop makes all the difference. Also less gain and more single coils
