You can spend your hole life trying to create the 'killer riff' of your dreams and will forever be haunted by the fact all Tom Morello needed was an OCTAVE.
Alan Dove I always thought the same. this song was just a big demonstration of how powerful and groovy they are with nothing more than an octave and one chord on wahwah!!
The main riff of this song was taken from Immigration Song from Led Zepellin. Morello changed the rhythm. However, Immigration Song was stolen from a black southern guitarist. Page would go to Southern bars and steal riffs from black guitarists.
Adam Smith he didn’t go to southern bars to steal riffs from black guitarist, listened to blues records like everyone else and stole licks and riffs and ideas from there just like everybody else. Stealing riffs isn’t a new thing that Page invented.

@@zsauce7447 actually I believe he uses an allen wrench against his strings and the toggle switch. Its still a very impressive and innovative technique
One of my favorite things about this band is how they stay true to the one guitar part. When Morello plays his unique solos, there is no rhythm guitar, just bass and drums. Kings X is one of my favorite bands, and they would do the same. In fact, when Morello, Cumerford, and Wilkes formed Audioslave with Chris Cornell, they had Cornell put down his guitar and just sing. That's oldschool.
Generally, Rage do a lot of overdubs. Listen to the beginning of Wake up - there's a a guitar riff and then some fast picking overdubbed as well. There are a lot of those moments which in a way take away from the live versions because they miss that one part.
The best part of this song is the seamless transition from the main riff to the opening riff at 3:28. Takes me back to me and my other 11 year old homies rocking to this jam

You have no idea how transcendent this song is live. When I saw them, you could feel the whole stadium quaking as everyone was jumping. Pure insanity
Couldn't agree more! Saw them at the Forum in Los Angeles and they nearly blew the roof of that joint! Best live performance I've seen to date.
like total insanity, only rave parties later on gave me the same feeling, today music has lost that revolutionary edge ... we got to bring this shit back!
Saw them at Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands many years ago - some 35000 people jumping up and down yelling 'F*CK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!" 😁. Seismic activity was registered during their show, no kidding 🪨🤘.
I've seen them perhaps five times. The audience goes INSANE.

@@josephchavez1489 more like they have been slowly rewriting history for ages.
I don't know octave. I get it
The main riff of this song was taken from Immigration Song from Led Zepellin. Morello changed the rhythm. However, Immigration Song was stolen from a black southern guitarist. Page would go to Southern bars and steal riffs from black guitarists.
As if the self titled album wasn't fucking good enough, they followed it up with this.
We had some unreal music in the 90s.
Adam Smith he didn’t go to southern bars to steal riffs from black guitarist, listened to blues records like everyone else and stole licks and riffs and ideas from there just like everybody else. Stealing riffs isn’t a new thing that Page invented.

Hell yeah that's fucking sick brother
I know it was just a typo, but "Cumerford" made me chuckle.
@@TotsNater Isn't it Commerford?
Generally, Rage do a lot of overdubs. Listen to the beginning of Wake up - there's a a guitar riff and then some fast picking overdubbed as well. There are a lot of those moments which in a way take away from the live versions because they miss that one part.
