    Huge THANK YOU! I was going after the wheel bearings to solve a rolling hum, but your vid showed me it was the axle - mine looked exactly like yours, with the tear in the middle boot. I hoped it was the bearing cause I learned how to change those from another vid. I was afraid of axles. Thought they must be more complicated. But holy cow! Literally just two 13 mm nuts and plug and play. Like changing a really heavy, greasy light bulb.

    Great video. You explained all the detailed in plain understandable English. I'm currently on the same project on my 2010 Nissan Maxima. My front passenger side CV axle separated. I've already removed the piece that goes to the front wheel. I'm having trouble removing the final piece that goes to the transmission. I've tried hitting it from the back to the direction of the front passenger wheel without any luck. I only see one bolt to remove. Have you worked on any 2009 to 2014 Nissan Maxima on a similar project? Do you have any advice for me to complete this? I've changed the two front lower control arms and two fronts struts to name a couple of things that I've already done in this car.

    EXCELLENT done video! I have to replace both hubs and both axles on my 09 Altima (parts on order). Question, I take it that you can not over tighten the hub/bearings like you would on a trailer or other vehicles?? I am guessing that since the hub is a complete part, you just crank down the axle nut nice and tight like you did in the video. Thanks again fora great video. Now I just need to find one for replacing the hubs and I will be set for my weekend project :)

    • @Revitauto

      I always suggest getting your alignment checked after completing any serious suspension work, with this set up you won't need it if all you are doing is unbolting the upper ball joint. That said, you can got to a Merchants tire or NTB and ask them for a free alignment check, then you can ask for a printout to decide if you need an alignment. I hope this helps Happy Motoring!

    My axle looks identical with the ripped boot. The lower control arms on both sides the larger rubber bushing failed and was ripped. At about 200,000 everything in the front end needs replacement. Oil pan almost rusted through, a small flat tip screwdriver easily punctured it with just hand pressure. It was running badly once hot and needed to be turned off for half an hour. Local tranny shop said it was done. I googled it and replaced the rotation sensor on the tranny and it ran like new with the new $40 sensor. Rear lower shock mounting bolts can be seized in the rubber bushing. Bolt rusts tight in the steel tube that the bushing surrounds.

    What happened to properly torquing down the axle nut? I did a job like this on my wife’s Altima, and I over torqued it with my gun... bearings went bad in no time... axle nut needs 129ft/lb for proper installation and to prevent over tightening and bearing (hub) failure.

    Nice vid, thanks for all the great info. However I have to ask, why didn't you replace the seal at the transmission? Ten bucks for a seal, seems like cheap insurance, you're already in the mix. If the axle is bad, it can't be much longer before the seal goes bad, starts leaking, and then you have to jump through all the hoops again. I understand you have to draw the line somewhere, I'm curious what your logic is.

    • @Bags1818
      @Bags1818 2 роки тому

      How would the axle boot being torn indicate the trans seal is on the way out? His logic is the seal is good, dont replace what isnt broke or close to it. If new seal isnt seated perfect it will leak. Then u just created that problem

    • @kccodex8931
      @kccodex8931 2 роки тому +1

      @@Bags1818 My point is if you ever have to replace the transmission seal, you are going to kick yourself that you didn't take 10 minutes and replace that seal when you were right there previously, when you had the axel out. It's not a tricky job, it's a simple straightforward seal replacement, I see no reason that you would create a leak. I agree the torn boot is not a definite indication that the seal is going to leak soon, but typically a boot doesn't go bad on a low mileage car, so I would just knock out the seal while I was in the mix, that's where I would draw the line, everyone applies their own logic, I am curious what his thoughts were. They might be close to your own...

      Just adding my thoughts as i wrench everyday for a living. I can count on one hand how many axle seals have gone out to where it was leaking bad and not seeping slowly. You would be kicking yourself when you have to do the job again cause the factory seal that had plenty of life was replaced and you knicked the seal going in and created an actual issue.

    I end up paying a mechanic to do the job and what I noticed, is that to remove the axle bracket, you need to remove the bolt from the motor mount to have access to the 16mm bolts that holds the bracket. It's unfortunate that you didn't mentioned anything about it in this video.

      You mean the axle carrier? We went through every step that we had to complete in order to replace this axle. What year make and model is your car? We did have some tight clearances to remove bolts but every step we completed is in this video is exactly how we replaced the axle.

I can't see how changing the passenger drive shaft would suddenly cause this issue to occur. Perhaps other front steering components need to be replaced. However, this problem only surfaced after the new install. Suggestions would be appreciated.

      Found the problem. Couldn't see and pulled a different 16mm bolt. Looking at the 4 bolts that were the same except one had 10.8 while the other three had 8.8 on the head. Removed the correct and last bolt for the bracket and it came out easily. Had to heat up the bracket to hammer out the axle.

      Hey Justin! Glad this video helped! It is really hard to diagnose sounds over text. Can you tell if the noise is coming from the front or the rear? While rolling in reverse does it make that sound or just while at idle. Did it do this before you did the axle swap? IF it is a new noise don't drive it! If it is not a new noise, can you take a video and try to replicate it?

    I have this really bad hum coming from what I thought was the front passenger side. I’ve had some experiences with wheel bearing being bad and making the same sound. Changed the wheel hub and the humm is even louder. Tires seem to be balanced and the wear normal. Now the sound sounds like it’s coming from the middle of the car. Could a bad the axel make that humming sound that sounds like a bearing?

    • @Revitauto
      @Revitauto  3 роки тому

      It is so challenging to find noises. And I would really have to listen to it in person to tell you. But I can say if you are suspecting it is a tire. You can drive the car and then rotate the tires and see if the noise changes locations! I hope this helps!

    Any tips on getting a stubborn axle out of the transmission? I removed the carrier bracket and using a 5lb slide hammer and I still cant get it to go. I am able to move it about 1/4" and there is a little bit of trans fluid leaking out but that is it. I have tried rotating the tire as well.

    • @Revitauto
      @Revitauto  3 роки тому

      YEAH! I got an idea, so if you take a measurement on the axle where it goes into the differential. You can go and get an exhaust clamp and then clamp that onto the axle then use a long pry bar and a hammer and that will get it to pop out. Also helps if someone is holding the axle really straight.
