- Video Tutorial on leveling out your lawn mower deck for a nice even lawn cut. Very simple job if you have a flat surface to work on. I'm working on a Husqvarna but this will be similar on many other brands too... just check your owners manual for the variances.
Thank You for this video. I found it simple and in plain english. Rock on!
Excellent! You're welcome..
My Husqvarna manual says the front should be 3/8" lower than the back.
Also says to measure off the blade cutting edges, not the deck sides.
Great! Thanks for the info😀
Mine same!
I need to raise my deck up more but no matter how much I turn those nuts or whatever, it never seems to rise. I mow on a 6 (which is suppose to be 4 inches) but it looks more like 2.5). What else can I do? The little wheels are already at the lowest point to raise the deck up the highest of that makes sense.
Without being able to see the whole situation, I'm not sure what to advise on that one. Seems like it should definitely be higher than 2.5...
@@JLPicard440 oh well, guess I’ll just tinker with it :( thank you for responding!
Exactly! Only see possibly one adjustment on the arms.. other replace with taller very expensive tires..
Same issue! Need to cut at 4" but 6 is 2.5. Adjustments at max. No help from Husqvarna! Keep sending videos on how to level deck. Only way I see is buy taller very high priced tires! Never ever buy a Husqvarna, no support!
@@nickballard7151 I just adjusted the 4 nuts on the deck and it worked but good grief it took some strength and patience and maybe worser back pain the next day lmao
What happens if you go one or two heights lower on the deck to cut the grass a little shorter? Does you anti-scalp wheel then ride no the ground?
They're supposed to yes.. I think you can adjust the height of the wheels.
How did you get that beast on a table ?
I used a set of mower ramps like you use to drive onto a pickup truck. I will usually use a wench that's connected to the table at the far end to pull it up. I don't like driving the mower up while riding it.
@@JLPicard440 Thanks, My mower barn is only 12"X12" but with a spreader bar and small chain-fall I can raise the front axle up to about 45 degrees. Thanks again for your reply.
@@jimgresham5529 That'll work great! I used to have a harbor freight electric wench and it worked great (to lift the front end vertically), but I moved a while back and my current ceiling isn't high enough... 😀
Can you go down to the lowest setting and not have the handle fight you? This RZ5424 isn't right even after getting a new deck replacement. The front of the deck is up much higher than the rear deck, which is totally opposite.
HI,... Usually the wheels on the deck will engage before you can get to the actual lowest setting on the handle. But yea I would maybe try to adjust it so the front is slightly lower than the rear. Honestly I don't know if it'll make much difference in the way it cuts, but that's what they recommend.
@@JLPicard440 I watched your video again to see if I missed something. I have that same mower back here after I noticed that the deck is still on it's lowest setting even though it's on the highest setting. That's totally wrong. As what you had stated, I did google the owners manual, I'm wondering if the handle had gotten bent or the bars that raise the deck in the back. When I fight to put the height adjustment bar down and then take the hangar brackets and raise them up, I can see lots of threads so I am wondering while it is down on level 1 I should tighten those adjustments. Can you put your deck all the way down without any issues? I wish you would have shown that in your video unless you can do a part 2
HI Small Tech Guy... I don't have this mower any longer.... Something could be bent or the linkage could be way out of adjustment. You should have adjustment almost all the way down the handle... It might stop before you get to the last notch, but it certainly should be all the way down at the highest setting. Without being able to see it, itll be very difficult to say what's exactly wrong. My guess is, it's out of adjustment if you're seeing lots of threads. TO answer your question, no I didn't have any trouble with the height adjustment on that mower.
What position is the deck height setting in when you do this(1,2,3,4,5 or 6). I am having a problem with my deck scraping when driving it on a new trailer i just bought. I think it is out of adjustment. Also, when i put it in the 1 position, i almost have to force it, which makes me believe the deck is to low and needs to be adjusted so that in the 1 position should be not forced down and the blade should be 1in of the grass.......instructions never said what position what to have the lever adjustment in while making these adjustments
No it's a very common problem for decks to get hung up on the trailer ramps. I've seen this happen with multiple mowers and multiple different trailers. I usually just raise the deck all the way up and cross my fingers... but you can raise the trailer ramp with some blocks and maybe use a secondary ramp to get up to the trailer ramp using a shorter 2x10 or something like that... It's really a pain no matter how you slice it. if it's a single wheel trailer, try raising your hitch as high as you can get it... that'll lower the back of the trailer. Actually the deck may be adjusted to high.. that's why you're forcing it to go into the highest position.. it should probably be lowered down slightly to make it easier to go to the 1 position.
@Bike Maker This one seemed ok..
I know your pain I gotta comedown at a slant
This question is exactly what I was looking for. I hope you got it rectified and still check on this channel. So I am going to put the deck down all the way and then start turning the adjustments on each side and see what that does. It may take about an hour to do this being that trying to get an impact is very hard to do.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Setting the deck wheels that high prevents you from ever getting a short neat finish
It's a preference thing. I don't like the grass to short. 😊
Also protects your blades from being damaged from hitting roots
Was the deck all the way up? My old toro is throwing so much grass out of the front it's crazy
angled up to far in the front?
I measured the front and back. Front is lower than the back! When I measured the front ends they were pretty even! I'm just not sure where it's supposed to sit. This old toro has 2 bars on the front deck 2 bars in the back, and then a clevis pin on each side with holes for the adjustment. So I took those and lowered the back and I'll mow tomorrow and see if that did anything at all. Not many videos for my old toro. Actually zero!
I hope that helps. If I remember right, the front is supposed to be a little lower than the back. But you might play with the adjustments a little to see if anything makes a difference..
Yea it had pitch wasn't sure it was to much pitch.
@@brandonsmith8548 Definitely shouldn't be a drastic pitch..
I think you set your anti-scalping wheels tool low. The wheels should ride about a quarter of an inch below the deck. Take the rear and front up one hole and you should be fine.
I set them according to the book... They seem to work pretty good at that height.
Why is the front wheels in the reverse postion are you supposed to turn them that way when leveling or does it not matter either way
@@jefmccubbin5131 I'm not sure what you mean by reverse position?
Thanks for the info
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Good video, but please buy a tape measure. One-eighth inch is pretty precise...
Thanks for the tip!
It ain't rocket science.
Need to raise mower! At max height and still too low!
Oooh!
Same problem 😢😢
My deck won’t go up after hitting a Metal drain need a lil help
HI. I can't see the deck. You'll have to get someone to operate the lever up and down while you look and see what it's hitting. It's hitting something now because something could have gotten bent.
Mines is a troy built mustang 42 and it doesn't have those type of levels
Thats a different mower all together, I'd have to see it
I got a new redmax rzt48 which is basically the same mower as you have. They just paint them red now. Lol
Cool... I didn't know that.. thanks for the info..😊
Something ain't right on this design! Husqvarna needs to get involved. Relative has somewhat similar Husqvarna mower and on 6 it barely touches the grass at 4".
I have a feeling the number on the deck adjustment is just a relative number and doesn't correspond to actual inches... It's a reference for higher or lower... Of course I've never actually measured it to see if that's true or not.
