I have only been playing ukelele for 5 days and i was so happy to learn this. i am so proud of myself because i never thought i would be able to play something like this. I really hope i get to learn more. I have been playing piano my entire life and always wanted to learn rock songs on piano but they always leave out the solos and it sucks!
gonna be honest ive been trying to learn how to play a good song on the uke for ages. youve been the first person to teach me and il remember. congrats. and thank you.
Awesome tutorial, thanks a lot! As for the D chord, I have small fingers and I manage to simple put three thingers on the strings on one fret, but I guess not everyone can fit them in there.
i have a les paul electric ukulele and cant wait to get home and play this...its only my 4th day learning but i got a couple songs down, this one will be on my to do list for sure....its gonna sound soooooooooo epic! i might even make a video all thanx to you!
I play the D by barring the first three frets with my middle finger because I have large hands and the traditional way of playing the D chord just doesn't work for me. But yeah, that thumb technique is a little ridiculous.
im glad to see that you are busy creating tutorials for us noobs out here ! cheers man , im really excited i cant wait for it. p.s how do you find the songs for the ukulele? do you convert the chords from the guitar or just by ear ?
These are great tutorials! Ukulele is so fun and it is pretty bad ass to be able to play a riff like this on this adorable instrument! Thank you so much: you are awesome! I was thinking the riff from Black Door by the Black Keys could be pretty cool too? Merry Christmas!
For the lead type bit of the riff, doing pull offs sometimes does sound very guitary and slick if you're playing it fast, just incase people wanted to know
the pattern is A is strummed Down-(mute) G is strummed Down-Up-Down-(mute) D is strummed Down-Up-Down-(mute) (riff) om the intro. To sound like the record the riff should be picked with alternate down and up picking.. The second riff the notes should be accented. The space between each chord placed and the timing of the rhythm is important to the song.. Riff begins in the 3rd beat of the measure.
Yeah, they are soooo epic. I am the only one in the school with one, so when I brought mine in no one knew what they were, then I started to play... Everybody wants one. :D
The bit where you put your thumb across the guitar, instead of straining your wrist, all I do is, like on the guitar I put my three fingers on instead of my whole thumb :) It is much easier, believe me.
This tutorial is good, but it would be nice if you gave the name of the UKULELE chords. Like, the first one is an A chord, and the guitar's "D position" is a ukulele's G chord. And I had trouble with the D chord, too. I used to do my thumb like you, but that way isn't good for speed. I play it in the easiest way (*for me). I put my ring finger on the second fret of the G string, middle finger same fret of C string, and index finger on the same fret of the E string. Still a good tutorial, though!

STRUMMING pattern : D DDU

I wasn’t used to middle finger at first so I used my thumb then I got used to middle when I learned highway to hell

It's much easier to strum D, U, D rather than down 3 times.
That method is a DUD!
