I’m a postpartum nurse and your mentality is great! I’ve seen so many moms spiral into PPD/PPA because of the pressure to breastfeed. Don’t let anyone dictate your choices, a happy momma will help keep a happy baby. Good luck with everything and remember to be kind to yourself postpartum, you’ll be doing the best you can and that’s all anyone can ask of you.
You have such a healthy viewpoint on your birth plan & breastfeeding. I’ve seen so, so many women disappointed after things didn’t “follow the plan” but it’s all so unpredictable! As long as you and baby are happy that’s all that matters!
You’re so right! I see so many women beat themselves up when things don’t go according to their “plan”. Plans don’t generally work with childbirth and dealing with a newborn. Go with the flow. What works today with baby may not work tomorrow (or even ever again!). Trial and error is constant, but things DO settle eventually!
This! It’s better to have birth hopes vs birth plans, because you can have hopes and dreams for one thing but that baby and you might need something entirely different. It is refreshing to see someone with such a healthy outlook on everything birth and postpartum wise for sure.
Two things! 1. As someone who really wanted a water birth, unmedicated but ended up high risk and unable to: epidural is AMAZING and I'm so happy I ended up getting it. Your plan is great. If you'd like to get an idea of what other things you may or may not want in your birth I highly recommend Jen Hamilton's birth vibes template! 2. Check with your insurance which breastpumps you can get for free through it! almost all insurance plans in the US will pay for a good quality pump like the Spectra for example.
I have several new moms in my circles and it seems that lots of them are opting to pump and bottle feed. As a mom who exclusively breastfed, I have to say that pumping and Bottle feeding is really more work than just nursing directly. I hope it works out for you - I found it very rewarding and super easy once you get in the groove. If not, formula is amazing too and you’ll still get all the same feeding time snuggles 💜
Yes I found my friends who pumped had SO MANY bottles to clean constantly but they have multiple kids and wanted their husbands to be able to feed the baby too and bond while they would then take care of the other kids I think? Idk to each their own. I’m hopeful breastfeeding will work for me!!! But if not, it’ll be ok. Thank you babe ❤❤❤❤❤
Breastfeeding is a touchy subject because it is far beyond just feeding your baby, which of course is so critical. But beyond this, beyond the science of why it’s healthier, it is the foundation to establishing a loving bond with your child. It is the safest place for a baby to be at the breast. It helps you cope with motherhood. When the baby latches and begins to nurse, you are flooded with oxytocin and feel joy, a sigh of relief and the most warm and loving feelings towards your baby. It is truly a mysterious thing and a blessing from God. It is worth exhausting all efforts to maintain the connection. The first two weeks are so painful, but if you can endure, you and your baby will be rewarded.
India way to go you for speaking your mind and stressing how EVERY woman is different, EVERY pregnancy is different and whatever you/they choose is ok. I don't know where I saw it, but the cutest nursery wall I've seen had a massive giraffe that was looking over the head of the crib. ❤
I love your attitude regarding others opinions as to what you should do. I remember telling a close relative the name I had chosen and them telling me they hated the name. I couldn’t use it after that knowing someone would not like it but I was so upset that they even gave their opinion. So less information is better. So happy for you and your husband!
My sister-in-law felt like a bad mother when she couldn't breast feed correctly. Other mothers were giving her guilt trips for not trying harder. I wasn't a mother at the time, BUT I told her that her baby would be better with a happier, more loving mother using organic formula then having an unhappy mother in pain all the time just so she could make everyone happy. Moral of the story: YOU DO what's best for you and your child!
I am soo happy you don't add any more anxiety in an already demanding situation like a pregnancy. Continue to take care of yourself and the baby! You are doing a great job!
You are going to be the best mommy. Best advice i have for a birth plan is to be open. You never know what is going to happen and what you or baby needs. As long as the goal is that baby arrives healthy and you come out of it well, that should ultimately be the goal 😊
I am currently 20 weeks with my rainbow baby boy. I have an anterior placenta too and I would describe the movement I’m feeling the same way you did! It’s my first baby too so it’s hard to say for sure but I think we are feeling them 🥹💙 praying for you and your baby
You are glowing! Your curls framing your face are on point. So pretty. I'm glad you are having an easy going attitude about all the details. I think your plan is perfect and going home with a healthy baby is the whole point of doing whatever needs to happen! Such a healthy attitude ❤
I am so happy for you, India! You are going to be such an amazing mom! You are so right. Fed is definitely best!Praying you have a healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery!
An interesting thing most women don't know is when we lose a fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy, we think we can only conceive then every other month. That is not true. Our bodies are so crazy that when we ovulate on the side of the lost tube, the tube on the other side can "swing over" and catch the egg. I lost my left tube and knowing I was ovulating on the left side that month, assumed I couldn't conceive that month, but I did. My OB and perinatologist explained how that happens, which blew my mind. Another UA-camr, Let's Talk IBD, who lost her tube after an ectopic pregnancy ruptured following an IUI early this year, did the same. Her opposite tube caught the egg, and she is now in her 2nd trimester. So chances of conception are dropped a bit, but not by 50% as we would assume.
You look so beautiful!! With my first baby I was bound and determined that I was going to breastfeed. I triedfor 8 weeks and we had a lot of various problems. Because I wanted it so bad and it wasn't working I ended up having some postpartum depression and my baby bonded more to my husband. So it made my postpartum very hard and I missed the newborn stage basically. Totally regret it! With my second I said I would try but if it didn't work I'm going right to the bottle and I had a wonderful postpartum, even though I wasn't able to breastfeed my second. I love your mindset going into breastfeeding! It works for some and not for others. I definitely believe it's not worth missing the newborn stage for it. It goes so fast! I have such a strong bond with my second, so you can definitely still get that bond even with bottle feeding. So happy for you and continued prayers during your pregnancy!
Congrats to both of u! Im so happy for u! I started watching u when i started my healthy wavy hair journey & i absolutely LOVE u! There's nobody in this world that deserves to be a mother more than u! Ur such a beautiful positive soul on the inside and out and ur gonna be an amazing mother to that sweet bundle of joy and blessing! Sending prayers and good vibes to you and your family! ❣️
I know you’re not sharing where you are in weeks- and I respect that! Just wanted to say a lot of my friends were saying they felt their baby at 12 weeks, 16 weeks. I think I was hyper vigilant looking for it as I never felt anything that early. Then at 20 weeks it was like a little fish turned around in my belly! My sister felt her baby at 22 weeks. Your baby could still be small and your placenta helps soften it, but one day it will be unmistakable and they’ll happen more and more from there! Also for me they were never intense or strong and I gave birth to a super wiggle boy so don’t worry about it! Congrats!
You're going into this with a great mindset. How you birth doesn't really matter, as long as both you and the baby get through it safely. I agree that epidurals are great. I also agree that fed is best, irrespective of how. I did both - breast for 10 weeks then formula. I did beat myself up to start with, but those were different times to now. Don't ever let someone make you feel less than if formula feeding works best for you.
When I first felt my son moving, it was much like something was swimming inside of me 😂. I pray you and baby boy have a safe delivery. You’re honestly way too sweet giving being conscious and kind about everyone’s mindsets
Breastfeeding is such a personal journey, I always find it weird that people think it’s their business, i personally hated breastfeeding and did it because of the pressure from others. The sex drive thing hit me in the final trimester, but be careful because it can induce labor.
So happy for you!! You are so wise when you say “FED IS BEST.” As a mother of four and former nanny, if you do formula feed, please do some deep dive research on formula ingredients. European formulas are much healthier, more nutritious and better for baby. 😊
I'm 25 weeks with an anterior placenta. There's only just starting to be bigger movement... but like you, it's when I'm lying down at random times. Only until recently it was like small twitches or flutters that you can almost imagine being gas.😂 I'm a Midwife myself so I'm not worried! Every baby is different and movements will become more obvious the further along you get, particularly onwards from 24 weeks 😍 I admire your perspective when you shared about your birth plan etc.. God will guide and protect you ❤
An advice I have for labor before going to the hospital is to breathe and breathe down, when you have contractions, breathe down and think down. I got to 7.5 cm with little pain with doing that. I was shocked. (It was my last pregnancy, the one before that was TERRIBLE during labor)
I also had an anterior placenta and didn't feel my son until about 24 weeks. Your placenta will move as the baby grows and then you'll be able to feel more. But my first kicks were like butterfly gas bubbles. I also felt more on my sides as he grew.
I didn't have a birth plan I just wanted the epidural, skin to skin right away and breastfeeding was very important. I also did formula too my babies got both of them. I'm seriously so happy for you and your husband❤
..I’m soo proud of you.!. the way in which you are approaching and experiencing pregnancy is healthy and refreshing.. I was blessed with 2 sons.. I longed for a daughter every now and then.. and now I have 4 granddaughters..!🤭🥰.. the first movements I felt were soft, little flutters, like a little butterfly inside of me..continue to cherish each day.. love, Marty ✨❤️💪🧗🏻♀️
Solo thrilled to hear you planning and enjoying your pregnancy! As someone who has watched your journey and your channel, but I would love nothing more than to contribute to your exciting, well awaited pregnancy. Any must haves on your registry? What would make you feel supported?
I have an anterior placenta too and would say they are movements you are feeling. I called them swishes and swooshes mixed with twitches to my friend and she said its definitely them 😊! X
I had an anterior placenta with my 3rd and I hated it because I thought I would feel her move sooner, being my 3rd, but instead it felt like I waited forever to feel those little kicks!! Also, in case you haven’t been told yet, babies are “rocked” to sleep by your movements, walking, etc 🥰 so you are more likely to feel him move when you are quiet and still! :) they wake up and protest that you are no longer lulling them to sleep!! For me it feels like a little fish swimming around at first :)
I had every plan and intention to breast feed my first. It was very sad and hard that it didn’t go how I thought it would. I cried a lot but all I cared about was that my baby was fed and gaining weight. It’s very hard to be a ftm and having people question my choices.
Praise God for this next chapter- I am SO happy for you and Daniel! I’ve been following you since the Deva days (lollll) and have loved watching your journey through hair, marriage, and now pregnancy. I got married around the same time as you AND am currently pregnant for the first time with my twin boys! Living the same life 😂 When you described your baby’s kicks, that’s exactly how it felt for me when they first started! A little twitch. Now it’s unmistakable, but I do have a posterior placenta. I learned that it’s super normal for them to happen when you’re sitting, laying on the couch or in bed, because you’re “rocking your baby to sleep” as you move throughout the day, so then when you go to relax, they wake up! 😂 I thought that was the coolest thing but also made total sense when I learned that from my OB lol! 💗
When I was pregnant with my son, the first "kicks" I felt were almost like if butterfly flew by and touched me briefly. That's the best way I can describe it. The big kicks came well into the 3rd trimester lol.
I am so happy for you and Daniel. I tried to breast-feed with my son and I lasted all of about two days and I had to switch to formula and it was the best decision for me at that time. My son is now 21 and happy and healthy 💕💕💕
Some babies just don’t latch on right to successfully breast feed. This was the case with my first son. He just didn’t want to. So he decided to be bottle fed. My next two babies loved nursing and it was easy. Every baby is so different.
Really advocate for yourself during your labor ans delivery. It only takes one bad birthing experience to want to rectify the situation---even if mom and baby are ok in the end. This is your experience. This is just life for OBGYNs, and nurses at the end of the day.
I will agree with everyone else about your healthy mindset towards delivery/breastfeeding. I will say though that if you want to feel successful in breastfeeding you may want to take a class beforehand and find a good board certified lactation consultant-it can just set you up better for what to expect both hard and painful. Not all nurses certified as “lactation consultants” actually know what they’re talking about. Find the right support system. I just feel like unless someone really wants it to work out, they typically will give up sooner. I do think that’s a bummer because of how convenient it can be once you figure it out-I sure loved nursing my own babies. But mentally/emotionally healthy mom beats breastmilk any day. Easy. Mamas have enough going on postpartum to bother with the shame/guilt and emotional turmoil of breastfeeding struggles. (It’s kind of ridiculous how much all hits at once in that fourth trimester!)
You truly need a team of people around you that are going to support your breastfeeding. If no one around you has experience or sees the value in it, you may give up quickly. I had a nurse latch my first baby at every feed while I was in hospital. It is so hard in the beginning, but once you figure it out, it is a joy!
@ the women in my family have all breastfed which definitely helped me. If I was depending on my husband’s family I probably would’ve felt uncomfortable breastfeeding cause they all seem to think it’s weird. 😂🤷♀️
I never understood women who constantly want seggs during pregnancy. I personally didn’t. All four pregnancies, and I was NOT interested. I still did it because I didn’t mind it, but there was no…enjoyment…for me. My sisters couldn’t get enough with their pregnancies, though! Everyone is different.
I definitely think breast is best. But not everyone can do it and THAT’S OKAY! A fed baby is of course the most important thing. I had to get my gallbladder out 3 months postpartum and had to stop breastfeeding so we ended up using donor milk.
According to my calculations I am guessing an April 8 due date. My dear cousin’s Angelversary 😇 ❤ I pray for a smooth pregnancy and delivery! Congratulations! 💙
These days you can get and epidural right after walking in your room at the hospital. 28 years ago, I had to go through 21 hours of hard labor before I was allowed to get the injection. That really, really sucked.
That " i just wanna get you in the sheets" generally happens at the tail end of the pregnancy. Hormones start gearing up for labor and I honestly think its meant to help dilation.
I don’t know anything about birth and babies, is there a genetic component to if someone may or may not be able to breastfeed? Like, is there an increased chance of milk not coming in or something else if your mother or grandmother also had a hard time?
Love your outlook on breastfeeding! I have two girls first one I breastfed fed for 2 years, my second I was only getting 1oz of milk and my daughter wasn’t gaining weight so we ended up formula feeding. Both girls are happy healthy and were chunky cute little babies ❤
The breast feeding topic is sensitive. I struggled to get enough milk. I even rented hospital grade pump to try and raise my milk supply. It’s not easy that’s for sure.
Hey girl. Best pregnancy/baby book I read (and I read a lot) is called "The Nurture Revolution". I highly recommend it to you. My only regret is that I didn't read it earlier.
Your birth plan cracks me up bc it is basically the same as mine. I am in the middle of IVF but that is basically my plan. lol epidural, everyone survive and take baby home. That is the beginning middle and end of my plan lol
I’m so happy for you and your family! Your excitement is delightful! ❤ I remember the kicking feeling almost like butterfly’s in my tummy until the last month where it felt like the baby was swinging from my ribs! 😂 Enjoy the wonder of every moment!!!
you have a great mindset. I dont think I KNEW I felt anything until pretty late because to your point- is it gas? Girl I dont know. I felt pressure to feel something and it made me anxious but dont worry. One day they will kick you hard in the right spot on their own timing and you will go oh... yup. For me, it was while eating an Olive Garden salad.
I just learned about something new in your video! When you said "relaxing Bossa Nova music", I had to Google it. How have I not heard of this before? Thank you!! This is definitely going on my playlist 🙂 Also - congratulations on your pregnancy! Cannot wait for every little update 🩵
On the breastfeeding tid bit I wanted to add that my son had a terrible latch and I exclusively pumped for him and then he LATCHED at 4 months old! so if you do want to breastfeed don't give up! It can happen. But in the end it's up to you!!
As someone who has delivered 6 babies, the only real birth plan is knowing you can't plan childbirth lol. You have a healthy attitude. So many first time mothers make a detailed plan. Every single one of my births had different circumstances and ended up completely different. As someone who has had completely unmedicated births, epidural vaginal births (my fave!), an emergency c-section and a failed VBAC, no, c-sections are not natural births at all. People want to change the definitions of words rather than accepting reality, but the actuality is going in through the abdomen with a scalpel is not at all a natural process of the human body, but a man-created procedure invented and developed. Any birth that ends with a healthy baby is the perfect birth, but I refuse to lie or pretend a man-made surigical procedure is a natural human birthing occurrence.. My c-sections were needed and I'm so grateful doctors have developed this alternative option, but they're not at all natural. Natural means occurring in nature. We don't see other mammals like gorillas or zebras in the jungles naturally having c-sections lol.
Omg everyone will have sooooo many opinions about everything childcare from here on out. So irritating. Everyone says what they did is best 😂 ignore it and do what feels right to you To me baby kicks felt like pokes at first. If you think you’re feeling it you probably are 😊
I had an anterior placenta with my 3rd and I hated it because I thought I would feel her move sooner, being my 3rd, but instead it felt like I waited forever to feel those little kicks!! 💗
Twin boys are fun! I married and identical twin, and our youngest of our 6 children are fraternal twin boys.
When I was pregnant with my son, the first "kicks" I felt were almost like if butterfly flew by and touched me briefly. That's the best way I can describe it. The big kicks came well into the 3rd trimester lol.
You should be able to get a breast pump for free through insurance. No need to have it on the registry. I got mine through aeroflow
Oh I didn’t realize this !?!?!?
Same, I used Aeroflow and got it paid for by insurance. Highly recommend the blue spectra that you don’t need plugged in while using!
You’re glowing!!! 🥰
Do you have a coupon code for hairstory?
You look gorgeous and so happy!!!!!! Your body will decide what you can do (breast feeding). Don’t stress!
27wks pregnant and the sex drive from day one has been very low.
Me too lol. Breastfeeding postpartum hasn't helped either
My dear cousin’s Angelversary 😇 ❤
I pray for a smooth pregnancy and delivery!
Ok someone else mentioned this too!!!!! I’m hopeful it’ll come
I don’t know anything about birth and babies, is there a genetic component to if someone may or may not be able to breastfeed? Like, is there an increased chance of milk not coming in or something else if your mother or grandmother also had a hard time?
Love your outlook on breastfeeding! I have two girls first one I breastfed fed for 2 years, my second I was only getting 1oz of milk and my daughter wasn’t gaining weight so we ended up formula feeding. Both girls are happy healthy and were chunky cute little babies ❤
What lip color did you use? 💋🩵
I am also a formula baby 😂 I'm a healthy 36 year old ❤ I am those kinds of mom that will beat myself up if I don't get to completely breastfeed
First! Happy weekend!❤
Have a great weekend Ervin!!!!
CIRCUMCISION...PLEASE don't do it. I learned the HARD WAY how it affects the baby. It's been 35 years and I still CAN'T forgive myself!!!
How?
I’m so happy for you and your family! Your excitement is delightful! ❤
I remember the kicking feeling almost like butterfly’s in my tummy until the last month where it felt like the baby was swinging from my ribs! 😂
Enjoy the wonder of every moment!!!
So happy for u! I’m due in January 🤭
OMG CONGRATS BEAUTIFUL!!!!
you have a great mindset.
When i was pregnant with my first baby, the movements I felt seemed to me that he was thumping or tap dancing
On the breastfeeding tid bit I wanted to add that my son had a terrible latch and I exclusively pumped for him and then he LATCHED at 4 months old! so if you do want to breastfeed don't give up! It can happen. But in the end it's up to you!!
I thought those first kicks were gas too😂 So happy for you!!!!
Yes 😂😂😂😂 I can’t tell
I ALWAYS FELT FLUTTERS FROM MY BABIES....
Your insurance should cover a pump!
❤️❤️❤️
Omg everyone will have sooooo many opinions about everything childcare from here on out. So irritating. Everyone says what they did is best 😂 ignore it and do what feels right to you
To me baby kicks felt like pokes at first. If you think you’re feeling it you probably are 😊
❤🙏🙏
💯🍀✨💕💗
Bravisima Dear Indian!Breast was and will remain the best...Healthy pregnancy!
I'm so excited for you!❤ I wish I could follow you on Instagram but no matter what I do I can't find you😢
I had an anterior placenta with my 3rd and I hated it because I thought I would feel her move sooner, being my 3rd, but instead it felt like I waited forever to feel those little kicks!!
