It's absolutely trippy to think that, nearly 50 years after I was listening to "Something for..." that I'd now be watching this interview, with these same guys, on "the internet". Even the concept of such a thing would have been utterly alien to my then ten-year-old self.
Earlier this summer in Berlin I was able to check off a bucket-list item, which was seeing Sparks in concert! Now I'm continuing to ride the post-concert high way longer than it would normally last by trying to exhaust UA-cam of every ounce of Sparks content and enjoy music from their back catalog! As a 4-decade long Sparks fan, I'm amazed at how Ron and Russell are able to move in so many different creative directions. I went many years not knowing another Sparks fan. So sad! I just adore them and hope that they continue to grow and collect a ton of new fans with each new endeavor.
17k views and only 379 likes... Ridiculous. This is a fantastic interview with two incredibly talented, innovative and incredibly humble likeable artists... Ron and Russell, well done, you've had a brilliant career so far and long may it continue 👍
Thank you SO much for uploading this. Simply wonderful! Ron & Russell are two wonderful human beings. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live twice, including the opening night in Oxford on their current tour. Nobody comes anywhere near to their genius. Hats off to the set designer too! Just spot on.. and that coffee table…..🕶🕶
I Discovery Sparks in 76,with kimono my house, and i loved them.Their sound so was diffrent.I still love Sparks, wish they will come to Norway,pløying conserts
I’ve loved Sparks since I was 13 when Kimono My House came out. I still love that album, but I am entranced by My Baby’s Taking Me Home and Balls. Simplicity and yet crazily complex. Thank you for this amazing interview.
SPARKS is a genre, where pop music is a subgenre. Don't be self-effacing, boys😅! You underestimate yourselves, Sparks encircled pop music and have given pop a family of other subgenres. This said with the deepest respect and admiration 💖💖🥰
i saw them last night , it was a wish come true and they were fantastic , so good and his voice was spectacular and the song list was mixed . They played bon voyage and beaver o lindy , made my decade
2:16 ".. FROM Sparks." Obviously she does not know they ARE Sparks. 😢 Edit: OK. It was a well researched and intelligent overview, I've stopped crying in my latte..
It was a big surprise out of nowhere for me to hear someone asking them about Edward Hopper, and the answer was funny, lol. He's one of my favorite artists. For starters, I guess Kimono My House would be a great choice, tho I started with Violins, just naturally because it was the time when I discovered the band. And, The Girl is a masterpiece, so I do agree too.
Loved this! My 70s band “Cigarettes” were heavily influenced by Sparks! They remain an influence to this day! Great to hear directly from these two guys!
Your band is legendary. Are there are any more songs recorded other than the two on UA-cam? I love Cigarettes. You guys and The Quick are my favorite "Sparks-core" bands
I would absolutely LOVE to hear Sparks' originally 'Annette' album, with Rebecca Sjöberg in the role of Ann. I hope they can release it on an anniversary for the movie 'Annette' sometime. Preferably when both they and I still are alive 😄 Rebecca Sjöberg attends in the 'The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman' as 'The Hollywood Starlet' (albums English and Swedish, the original performances in Stockholm and London (2009), and the play at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2011). She also sings in the master piece 'Life With the Macbeth's' from 'Hippopotamus'. She also had a small part in the movie 'Annette'.
Absolutely brilliant but would have liked to hear about wanting to work with Jaques Tati -Tsu Hark and The Seduction of…and whether Mai is dead and buried or still on life support 💙
What used to bug me was that you'd see bands ( that I also liked btw ) having great success with a sound or look that was very Sparks like. Yet Sparks themselves were having it pretty rough at that time. Rarely played on radio and only the very odd appearance on Top of The Pops. Having said that, I also enjoyed that they were more in the background. It made them seem more mysterious and exclusive. The same reason I also liked John Foxx.
I love these brothers! Ron has to be one of the coolest guys on planet Earth! I love when Russell sings, "I Predict!" This was th e song that turned me on to Sparks. What is your favourite Sparks tune?
The best band-duo ever!

I know what you mean!
Hard to believe that Ron is 78 and Russell is 75!!!!!

Veronica Lake - the Samson of the '40s!
What a well executed interview with thoughtful questions and really interesting answers.
Thanks for this!
do you realize that those 2 brothers are men aged 75 and 78???? It's unbelievable how good they still look. And still performing
You gotta love these guys! Sparks forever!

Haha... I picked that up too.
As awkward as it may sound, it's technically correct.
The humour as always very English very MAEL lol
They don't need to go into the R&R HOF, the HOF needs to get started on their new wing of the hall.❤🎉

Been á super fan since a detective I lived with showed them to me in 2000. ❤🎉
Was his name Sherlock Holmes?
Didn't know their way around a Moog synthesizer? I got a feeling it was easy for Ronald to catch on.. . . . Anything with a keyboard!
You only have to listen to the Killers who are clearly influenced by Ron and Russell..50+ years and still sounding as fresh as ever…
Pongan subtitulado por favor
Russell should visit any optician to have his spectacles properly fitted on his ears and nose.
Ha ha, I do that all the time too, probably from putting them on my head - it stretches them.
I love them but please come on. There is and always has been TONS of music. Ludicrous to say this really about anyone
