High-level match. An absolute credit to both players. A couple of slightly safe smashes from Sinner at critical times will hurt for a while. The one on match point in the fourth from which Altmaier then got a net-cord … and later at 5-6 in the deciding set when Sinner had an opportunity to break back. Fabulous match. Pity there could only be one winner.

Best match of the tournament so far !!! Altmaier's backhands were out of this world. Sinner is such a gifted player and realistically should have been able to close the lid on this one but he just wasn't able to deal the killer blow in the clutch moments, too many unforced errors in the crucial moments and played a game that is still one-dimensional right now in which there doesn't seem to be any particular game plan apart from bashing the ball as hard as he can from left to right.
Altmaier surprisingly for a one handed backhander, managed to deal with that pressure and the heavy blows brilliantly, by matching Sinner's depth and counter punching with those amazing one-handers. He was also the superior athlete on the court, moved incredibly well whereas Sinner was dragging his feet on the clay towards the end. I really admired his attitude on court, he showed great positive body language throughout the game, and kept the intensity up and playing aggressive right until the very end. Huge Congrats Daniel !!

you must be an ATP top 100 level coach no? Must be making millions of US$ in the tennis game no? Then maybe, just maybe, contemplate the possibility you don't know what you are talking about. Have been playing for 20 years, was trained by top coaches and still I learn new things about this game. FYI Sinner played a varied game, you have to on RG clay (the slowest in the world), but faced a defensive player who gave very little and left his guts on the court. 5 1/2 hours of play. Altmeier is a tough opponent, should rank higher, can serve 220km and has consistency on both wings and that one handed backhand generates a lot of spin which is good for clay (see Wawrinka, Tsitsipas, Gasquet). Played his A game today, no doubt.
