The ironic thing is that ted cruz's father matches the description of the zodiac killer, and the timeframe and location matches when he moved from cuba as well as the route that was taken. David Oranchak does a really good video on it showing you can find a direct quote from the unabombers manifesto in the letters too using the same method (bc it's literally just using the letters to make words. you make the message), but it doesn't mean that was intended to be in there.

this case especially always makes me wonder WHY we still bother with hand writing analysis. If I was a criminal I wouldn't be writing anything with my "original" handwriting. I'm sure it's still possible to find similarities, but as someone who generally really like my handwriting, I'd do everything I could to make it look like someone else wrote it. Maybe that's just me, though??
I think that every time I see a show where they say "but the handwriting didn't match" if you practiced even a little bit for a day or two you could develop a whole new way of writing
There are clear signs when someone has deliberately altered their handwriting, so although at best you could prevent a match, fortunately for the police, an expert would just rule it as inconclusive, which means you wouldn’t be able to say your innocent just because it’s not a match
I personally have 2 handwritings; one is slanted and the other is generic. I can switch between them super easily & I've had them since I was in middle school. You can even say I have 2 more because my cursive is REALLY bad, spaced out and loopy. And then there's always my left hand as well.

The Zodiac watch was then quite common and worn by a considerable part of the male watch market in an era when almost every adult male 'breadwinner' would wear a watch.
Look at how many people have claimed to be various notorious criminals. Mentally ill people sometimes make such claims if fantasies of power/ megalomania take over them. ALA was definitely mentally unwell at times and clearly also a very nasty piece of work on occasion. Lots of people unfortunately like that in nearly every small town near you. Doesn't make them all mass murderers.
Zodiac's misspellings and creepy messages were more about cryptography and codes than mental unwellness. He may have been that as well - but it would be a high functioning unwellness to code so effectively. They aren't 'random' like they appear. The sloppy look of the letters is entirely intentional.

I'm right behind you on that one. Given that Kane had suffered brain damage and that it influenced his behavior so possibly decided to follow in the footsteps of Allen. Handwriting is also easy to alter so that it looks different to the letters sent to the press.

That’s become a bit more of a possibility in certain circles. I wouldn’t dismiss that as it is plausible it was copycat crimes & the taunts could’ve come from whoever did which set of murders
My theory is: there at least 2 peoples working together and 1 or more copycat. The writer could be the wife, a friend, or even a twin. The killer he's the one who like to kill and the wife/ twin brother is the writer.

For god sake, the kids called literally seconds after the Zodiac shot stine in the neck and then saw him cleaning the cab from the window. They were young kids and scared and called it in. The dispatcher then put it out over the scanners that it was a black male but it was corrected minutes later. It was a miscommunication.
