    I bought this truck a year ago and it has right around 285k on it as well. it has been running great until the oil light came on and a clicking sound started. the previous owner put Lucas oil additive in white his oil changes. a mechanic friend suggested I just put 20/50 in and skip the additive. what do you think about that ?

    Hey Thomas, I recently got a 2003 f150 4.6 4x4 and it has 209k miles truck runs and drives great engine looks amazing. I wasn’t sure what oil to change it with so I did 5w-20 high mileage valoline synthetic blend. Should I switch to something else next oil change, I want the truck to continue to be issue free way way longer?

      That should work fine. I just use the 5w20 Motorcraft oil, I have used other 5w20. Usually easy to find at Walmart

    I thought you drain oil pan first then the filter,Pop the motor cap to faster oil drain

    Funny I have the same f-150 4.6 with the exact same mileage. It's never been in the shop. Have your ever cleaned the injectors?

      @@thomasfixit7931 I have not cleaned mine neither. Just curious. I cleaned the injectors on my wife's mustang and made it run like new. Firestone recommends every 60k. Thinking about doing the f-150 with 285k for the first time. I did a video on the mustang, you should check it out. Thanks for the good videos.

      @@edooutdoors316 I worked at Firestone in my younger years. Not saying that you shouldn't do it, but if you don't have any issues such as rough idle, stalling, poor acceleration or high emissions levels, I wouldn't bother. Firestone is in the business to make money, so the recommend things all the time.

      @@thomasfixit7931 Yeah that's true but you'll also notice as time goes on and you rack up mile that the truck will loose power. Me personally I'd just leave it alone. Fuel injectors never clog up unless your vehicle does a lot of sitting

    You just saved me $65. I’m gonna recommend you! I appreciate you showing where you were located. I couldn’t find the plug cuz I was looking in the front near the filter. My engine has been angry since no oil. Change in 2 yrs! But I’m changing it tomm! It takes 15 min! Thanks 🙏

      There is no reason to crank on an oil filter. screw it on until it touches the engine and then give it maybe three quarters more turn. Just wipe the mounting surface on the engine clean first. It should be a clean silver colored surface and make sure to apply a film of clean oil to the rubber gasket on the filter before installing. Oh I know people will say I just put some of the old oil on the gasket. Yes you can, but me I always put clean oil on the filter gasket, just me. Any time you have trouble removing the old oil filter then someone has over tightened it in the first place. That is why I change my own oil because I know it will be done right. Been changing my own oil since 1965, I know what I am talking about.

    If I don’t change my oil for 2 yrs, will I experience rough idle and acceleration issues? I ran a can of seafoam and it got better but I still hadn’t changed my oil. I’m doing it tomorrow.

    • @thomasfixit7931
      @thomasfixit7931  3 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you have other issues. Do you check to make sure the oil is still full? How many miles did you drive since your last oil change?

    • @yasssgawwwd5643
      @yasssgawwwd5643 3 роки тому

      @@thomasfixit7931 It’s possible I have other issues but I has been adding oil thruought the 2 yrs, no changing. So I’m sure it’s the bad oil ruining the smoothness of my engine. Scotty Kilmer has a video called: what if I don’t change my oil?” Snd the same issues I saw on the screen was what I had. Plus as I said, after placing in a can of seafoam, it got better! But since the oil hadn’t been changed I believe it went back to mixing with the dirty oil.

    See that motorcraft oil. See your hand. Take your hand. Now slap yourself with it and go get a full synthetic oil. Ran this in my 03 model and the rear main seal started leaking at 135k and it burns off like crazy. Motorcraft only lasted maybe 1000 miles on an oil change and oil would have to be added to it. Garbage ass oil
