But why? you are totally right.. The sitting postures is very important that what my Dad teach me also when he start show me how I should sit and hold the pencil to write properly
I knew most of the stuff mentioned here but I did not really took it seriously I quess. But there was something about your personallity that sparked some sort of respect towards you. This then made me take you seriously and listen once you say important! - A few adjustments according to my liking and writing already became way less stressfull for me (and my body). Thank you!
Excellent to know you were able to incorporate it into your practice. Sometimes we know things but it is only when others tell us about them do we really pay attention to how they can be consolidated to make a real difference in our lives.
this blew my mind! I always breezed past posture lessons from professional calligraphers because I thought it was kind of silly. I though, "I know how to sit at a desk." but as a lefty I always struggled finding a comfortable way to write black letter without smearing ink everywhere. this video series helped me tremendously! I was foolish to underestimate the importance of posture and placement. thank you so much for this series!
I thank you very much for your videos! I agree with you in all! I was studing calligraphy in Estonia, under Soviet ocupation... the masters were from before the II WW times... old tradition... and you are representing it in best way! Now i am teaching calligraphy, and i must tell you: i admire your work and videos! Keep up this exellent work! Rauno Th
rauno thomas moss I am glad you like the work. I am planning on teaching in Bulgaria and Ukraine in April. If you can make on of them that would be great
And again (after previous video), fabulous - thank you. It's obvious once you explain it, but I've been doing it all so wrong for so long without knowing. Bless your heart for doing this for free - xxx
It isn’t that obvious because we are so rarely taught how to sit and place the sheet. We are so focused on the writing we don’t think of the pre-writing
This is so helpful! I've been looking up tutorials for this but its so hard to find! People assume sitting positions are just common sense, but after learning calligraphy for a few weeks, I'm getting cramps and I'm confused how to move my arm and hold my pen properly. This series is the best! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this holistic trilogy on how to approach the physicality of writing. A lot of the posture info was really interesting… A big carryover from my training as a pianist and later taking some voice instruction at uni!
am glad you found it helpful. If you are really interested in a more indepth approach, you should read the info on the longer versions on the shopify site.
This is just!!! As I was starting to really learn copperplate calligraphy I was having all these questions and doubts of how to position, place the paper, hold a pen... And this video has given me so much thrill!! Plus with an amazing voice ;) Down to earth and right to the point! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and professionalism!
this series of videos is simply fantastic. I have been hunting for all this information for hours! to think that I could find all of them and all in one series is just awesome. thank you very much.
Christopher Brown this is an introduction to the 3P’s I have some for sale on Shopify and they are nearly 2.5 hours of in-depth info, if you need to delve deeper.
Thanks for these very important tips because I always follow the straight back posture and sitting near the corner of the desk and all but I was doing a mistake that you also mentioned here that I always tilt my head forward to just see like a zoomed view a better view and I'm laughing on myself that I always think that the TQ script is very wide that it can only fit 5 or 6 letters in a horizontal line of an A4 sized sheet with a 6.0 mm nib but Now ai know that my letters are not fitting there because I was looking at my script at an odd angle😂 I think now I'll get it right. Thank you sir!
If I am writing a letter in my normal handwriting yes, if I am making a grocery list, maybe not as I might be doing it against the fridge, but I keep the relaxed aspect in my writing all the time and use as little finger movement as possible
This is amazing, thank you for your videos! I've realized that I like to sit on the front of my chair, and even use a book to place under my feet to make my thighs parallel to the floor (I'm very short). One thing I've noticed though, is my top knuckle of my thumb starts to hurt after awhile. Wondering what that could be from, probably the way I'm holding my holder (oblique), and how to fix this so I won't have to take so many breaks in between my work to ice/massage my thumb.
Paul, I have a question: but if you turn the page and rotate yourself, it wont be the same as writing with the page in parallel with the edge of the desk (writing like if nothing was rotated)? It would make more sense (for me) if you only rotate one thing or another. What is the point in rotating the paper AND yourself in the same direction?
Oooh, got it (you answered quickly)! To write copperplate you turn your page a little bit also to help with the angled lines? Like, working always with the page tilted in "x" degrees? Thanks, Paul. Greetings from Brazil!
I usu twnd to bend down towards the writing as i feel uncomfortable by looking at the writing from a straight posture. Is that a sign of weak eyesight? I've got specs lately but still it doesn't make me comfy and I want to bend to the paper while writing :(
this hand/elbow positioning make just a little sense to me, Maybe I am wrong, Ideally we shouldnt move the fingers nor the wrist when we write. the movement should come from the body and the arm, at least this as far as I know.
When I told ppl about sitting postures they called me mad......but this makes complete sense to me..... posture affects thinking.
But why? you are totally right.. The sitting postures is very important that what my Dad teach me also when he start show me how I should sit and hold the pencil to write properly
This Chanel had to be the best actual break down because he tells you the why also not many videos come near this explanation.
Glad you found it useful.

Thank you.. I do appreciate your nice video
Very interesting and useful for me. Many thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thank you! Do you use similar technique in everyday handwritting also?
If I am writing a letter in my normal handwriting yes, if I am making a grocery list, maybe not as I might be doing it against the fridge, but I keep the relaxed aspect in my writing all the time and use as little finger movement as possible

Madeline Zayas I would suggest you purchase the longer versions of these videos. They will really change my the thumb issue you are having.
@@PAScribe thank you! I'll do that 👍🏻

Q: Do you recommend sitting on a chair WITHOUT rollers at the feet ? My chair's got rollers on it. Thank you for your time.
You have no control of where the chair is and that means no control of where you are.

the point is the elbow MUST be on the desk - it is critical for muscular movement

assuming you are talking about Copperplate???
@@PAScribe hmm yes Copperplate mostly. .. i guess... as it's v delicate
Thank you for such a good advice. I have a question though.. Can it be used for brushpen calligraphy too? Thanks much in advance.
Tadas Vosylius all three vids can be applied to a brush pen if the pen is being held vertically to write.

My longer videos on Shopify go into a considerable amount of detail on this matter.
As a left handed I am left to cry in despair 😭
Lefties are already at the axis of the script if you are a mirror right hand.
👏
