Never had any gameboy other than gameboy color but after watching so many shorts from this channel I'm tempted to buy an advanced 😅
Adding charging & backlit screen makes it better than sp with the exception of not being able to flip the screen to protect it from scratching but the headphone jack should make up for that with certain people
I also think the GBA fits better in most hands
Pockets too. The SP always felt like a brick in my pockets.
@@vetrogaming agreed. I started with Gameboy, Then color, then GBA before getting an SP. The SP I had to scrunch my fingers despite only being in middle school whereas with the GBA I could use all the buttons comfortably

Like I’d normally prefer an emulator on my oneXplayer 2, but for some old school 16 & 32 bit era Nintendo games, this would be a really satisfying/“authentic” feeling experience with all the modern features like adjustable backlit screen & usb charging… tempting indeed
I got a modded gba from someone years ago, it was like $350 total for the same mods here. These guys have better prices than what I paid. I love my modded gba lol

I love retro handhelds getting a 2nd life. I loved my GB Advance when I was a child. Still remember staying up all night playing my GBA. Good old times.
It looks like a reverse Kyogre. The Blue on Red. While the Sapphire Screen is Red on Blue. Nice
You mean it looks like pokemon ruby cartridge or groudon.
@@ljpal18 nah I meant it looks like Kyogre's colors but inverted. For example if the Gameboy was Blue and it had a Pokemon Ruby cartridge then it would have Kyogre's colors.

I think the best thing about the GB, GBC, and GBA was the fact you could drop them down the stairs and the main concern was losing your progress if the game or batteries fell out. When we got the SP, or anything else recent aside from the 2DS its been pretty fragile.

If I was my 10 year old self who spent 999 hours in Sapphire and Emerald getting all kinds of random extras for my GBA, THIS thing would've been my absolute dream.

how did i just notice that A and B buttons aren’t centered
I’ve always wondered why the letters aren’t centered on the buttons either. Nintendo did that with the color and gba sp too. Maybe the pocket as well
How do you run in mario? The B button almost always have to be pressed, thumb will feel very weird pressing the B if it was centered
The slight slant is better remember when I had original game boy never had issue pressing the buttons was simple yet reliable unlike new modern controller breaking every minute

I had a Gameboy advance growing up. If it had a backlit screen and a rechargeable battery, this would have been thee best handheld at the time. That is including PSP.
As someone who found an AGS-101 GBA SP from a swap meet for $20 a few years back, yeah it's a solid way to play Game Boy games
But imo you might be better off getting a used DS Lite if you exclusively play GBA games, or emulating them if you can make backups

This whole thing is a good business idea, man. Tackling all the issues these aging handheld game consoles have, AND making them look awesome.
The USB rechargeable battery is also a great idea.
(Can't remember if the GBA had a proprietary charger or no charging option at all... But in either case, this is a waaaaay better idea..
I have a PSP (found in the trash) that officially requires a charger with a mini jack plug... I ended up just soldering a mini jack plug to a USB cable, so I could power it with power plugs I can also use for other stuff...
And I'm able to use it with a power bank - oh.. AND I essentially reused 2 broken cables by making them one :)
I would be scared that I'd scratch that thing, it's too beautiful

dang, i spent more on parts building a few custom GB SP then this dude sells them for. $200 for a moded gba is insane. dkoldies is minimum 179 and the screens are always junk.. this is local pawn shop deal prices. awesome stuff dude
I turned a Galaxy PREVAIL phone into a Gbc and GBA device. It still has an amazing battery and I have 13 replacements.

That is actually really really similar to the GameBoy pants that I built myself. It’s got the clear red but I kept the original grey buttons. I didn’t bother with the button LEDs or the rechargeable battery pack. This is because my GameBoy event is medical grade

People would've killed to have a Gameboy like that back in 2004 as I remember the brightness was wack AF, and you had to either be near a light source to see the screen or buy a mini light accessory just for the Gameboy
