    The best thing about this interview is Hugh Grant's complete discomfort. You can see him quietly wondering how he ended up in this movie. "I was in Notting Hill with Julia Roberts!", he seems to scream inside.
    Tonight, I'm saying a prayer to any god that will listen that this movie becomes the smash hit that reignites his career, so he has to... for the rest of his life... discuss it in interview after interview. Imagine for a moment if you will, Hugh Grant, star of stage and screen, forced to spend his twilight years, bewildered and somewhat amazed, signing autographs at comic con after comic con, while hardcore D&D fans pick apart what's left of his soul with obscure, lore heavy, complaints about his role.

So... it was D&D, then? 😂 I wish more people who are hesitant to play D&D understood that, depending on your preferences, it can be anything from total acting improv / storytelling / fucking around with friends, to a competitive minmaxing combat game. It's versatile enough that there should be something for everyone, as long as your group and DM work with you to decide what kind of game you all want to play. Anyone who's ever dreamed of becoming an actor, or enjoyed Whose Line Is It Anyway?, or liked murdering creatures in a video game, should be able to have a blast playing D&D.

    • @brewdaly1873
      @brewdaly1873 Рік тому +10

      Calling it "one Netflix series" is a little disingenuous I think. It's a hugely popular series, probably the most popular thing Netflix has put out. It's a pop culture phenomenon. Wizards even released a ST themed starter set for 5e, and Matt Mercer himself credits the show with getting people into it. I'd wager more people got into the live play shows because of Stranger Things than the other way around.
      That being said, everything combined really created a perfect storm of conditions to make DnD big. 5e is easy for new players, it started showing up in pop culture like Stranger Things, Critical Role and other love play shows had huge success, things like D&D Beyond and Roll20 made it easier to play online.
