      Season 1 of course is my favorite of Space 1999. While season 2 had episodes like The Lambda Factor, The Dorcons and The Metamorph. But as a fan it was season 1 however that grabbed everyone, thats always the favorite!

      Season 2 was destroyed by Fred Freiberger and his stupid rubber monster fiascos.

    Season one was my favorite, I was just like everyone else when the second season started, I was totally horrified at the changes to both the set and the loss of many of the original characters. In my opinion Space 1999 could have been as big as Star Trek.

    • @CJ-rf9jm
      @CJ-rf9jm 4 роки тому +9

      Indeed it should have been. Even the followup series "Space: 2099" I think it was seems to be blown from orbit to wander the universe never seen again.

    • @brianoconnell6459
      @brianoconnell6459 4 роки тому

      @@CJ-rf9jm I have a quick and dirty concept for Space: 2099, where the Moon makes a 100 year orbit around Meta, already colonized by the former Alphans, and an up and growing civilization, where a group of archaeologists and students return to collect data from the computer along with historical relics, only to find another civilization (for, I dunno, reasons), latched a massive nuclear rocket to the back of the moon that kicks them again out of orbit, this time on a trajectory for Earth. So it's "Okay, we're about done.", then the rocket kicks in, and we're off!

      In my opinion it could never have been as great as Star Trek. I have to admit there are quite silly and even bad ST episodes. But the central premise of Space:1999 was just wrong imho. All of Earth's nuclear waste cannot throw the moon out of the solar system. How can you meet a new solar system almost every other week, or every other month? How many time faster than the speed of light do you have to travel for that? Maybe time dilation might have helped but in one of the later episodes they manage to get into contact with Earth and not much time seems to have passed back on Earth. Suspension of disbelief can only get you ( ---> me) that far. Yes the planets and the spaceships were fantastic, of course. MAYBE if the second season hadn't had that thick American sauce... maybe...

      Old memory... A classmate said he had a photo of Maya I could have, at a price (50p 'and' a used blank audiotape I think). Of course I paid. It was a full colour A4 page of a Look-In magazine I put on my bedroom wall. But then another so-called friend visiting the house one evening put a sticker that was lying around right in the middle of her face, ruining it. Removing the sticker left a white tattered rectangle. It led to an argument, a chase out into the garden and a fight. This is the kind emotional intensity Maya inspired back then.

      The first script called for two separate Eagle crashes into the lunar surface, so they built a miniature sturdy enough to withstand repeated takes of the FX shots without serious damage and still be ready for more. With a crash-worthy model on hand, later scripts called for more of that kind of visual excitement.

      @@DavidGreen_au Thank you for your reply.
      Although I have seen all of the episodes (thanks to my Blu Rays and DVDs) would it be possible if you could remind me as to which episode that the Eagle Fabrication plant is shown in
      I'll have to be honest that I'm not all that up on 'Space:1999' (although I did very much enjoy watching it, even Year 2) because I'm more up on the Supermarionation shows (chiefly the ones that are set in TV21 Universe ie 'Fireball XL5', 'Stingray', 'Thunderbirds' and 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' which I'll add is one of my personal all time fave SF shows full stop and movies, ie 'Thunderbirds are Go' and 'Thunderbird 6') than that of the live action shows (that said I did very much enjoy 'UFO' of which I'd like to dust of my Blu Ray box set one day and rewatch it...) so it would be of great help if you could remind me so that I can go right to the exact episode that it is shown in.
      Anyway I'll have to go now as my daily ration of electricity is almost up thanks to, I'm quite sure that you are aware that the World Government are planing on sending up a replacement for our long lost Moon and that they need that power to send up the parts up into space.
      I also hear that the Tracy family have suffered a loss during their sking holiday, very sad.
      We really do need a better rescue service....

      I can't recall the specific episode, only scant details. It was in season 2, and if memory serves, it was an episode where Maya goes "a bit bonkers", and starts flying an Eagle around inside one of the subsurface hangers.
      Trashing quite a bit of the place in the process.
      I remember seeing an Eagle being carried around on a gantry in one of the scenes.

I love it to this day and it send shivers down my spine. I can forgive the following decidedly disco music! Now the episodes I don't remember at all so its ripe for a rewatch, but the Dragons Domain one I remember vividly terrified me as a child. Good and accurate description. Production flaws are more evident in the second season (goofy looking monsters, decor, landscape, etc.). I'm not happy about the disappearance of Professor Bergman in season 2, though I liked the Maya character (but didn't care about her fling with Tony). I was too young to realize it back then, but now you made me notice the dialogues and exchanges were also better in season 1.

Pour répondre à votre question: mon épisode préféré est "The testament of Arkadia".
