Nice tips, it would be nice if you could also do another video on how you colored in your work using Colorlab
Thanks for the feedback. This sounds like it would be a popular video so we'll definitely be doing one soon!
So good!! I learned a lot! Would love to see more tutorials by you including the color one. The robot looks amazing btw! Bravo!
Very cool. Really captured the retro look.
Awesome tips in one place, served short, clear and to the point 🤙
This was both fun and informative! I didn't know about how to transition with shadows in a graphic/comic way, which I will try out. I enjoyed seeing Matt's process from sketch to finish artwork. I'd love to see a video on how he colors his art using Colorlab too. Thank you :)
Yes! Please do a Colorlab demo.😊
We're already working on it!
This was fun, thanks for making it! I appreciate you feeling reticent about product placement, but since Retro makes such great brushes, I would love to see more of how you use different brushes in different inking contexts. Sometimes the use case is intuitive to me, and sometimes I suspect it’s intended for something I don’t quite understand lol. Appreciated the glimpses into your process!
Thanks for watching! Love that you’re geeking out over brushes with us. We totally get it-some feel intuitive, others are like, “Wait, what’s this for?” We’re planning weekly videos to show different use cases and help you get the most out of your purchase. More inky goodness coming soon!
Excellent video - you're so talented! Thank you!
THIS IS AWESOME!!! Great tips thank you Matt and Dustin! Could you talk alittle bit about the paper texture you are using in another video what settings you use for it etc. Again thanks so much this has been super helpful!
Great idea! I'll put the paper texture and settings on the list for an upcoming video. Thanks for the feedback!
SOLD! Great tutorial, I need the Inferno brush set....and a promo code 👀💸🙏
Yes!! Love to hear it! You can use the code INKTASTIC through Sunday at 11:59 PM PST to get $10 off the Inferno brush set. Happy inking!
Nice video and tips! Keep em coming!
Gotta dig that retro look!
Excellent video. Matt has a great style. Clear and humble. I would buy anything he recommends!
Would love a tutorial for colouring part and also the paper texture part.
Great tips! I'd love to see a color demo.
Thanks for letting us know. Whether it comes next week or in a few weeks it will definitely be happening!
please make the color lab video, that would be amazing. I recently purchased it, and i struggle with it.
Oh heck yes-we’ve got you! Next week’s video dives into four-color process printing, and we’ll be using ColorLab to break it all down. Plus, we’ll probably throw in a coloring sheet so you can practice along. Stay tuned!
Rad video, thanks ✌️
DassDope! I'm interested in all of it, I'm new to the tools and software.
looks great.
Excellent!
Awesome! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Color next please, also what halftones do you prefer?
Thanks for the feedback! For single color halftones our DupliTone brushes are insanely good. If you are looking to get more of a comic/CMYK effect I would grab ColorLab. Both are available for Procreate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity, and Clip Studio Paint.
So cool, thanks! This looks like an equilateral square canvas. If your canvas is 5”x5” for example could you enlarge it at a later? Or is it always going to stay at a 5”x5” size? 😎
With raster (pixel) based artwork it will depend on your DPI/PPI (dots or pixels per inch.) The larger your DPI the more room you have scaling up without losing image quality. For instance, a 5x5 inch canvas at 600DPI could be scaled up to twice its original size without losing print quality.
You could also work larger and decide to scale down, but that will make your inking look smaller as well so keep that in mind with your line weight.
@ thanks brother 🤘🏽
What do you use to create the Ben Day dots?
This is using our ColorLab 4 color halftone system. You can get it here: www.retrosupply.co/collections/colorlab
That would look so good with pencil and paper 😢
please regular video uploaded
We have Matt contracted to do these videos for the foreseeable future, so you can look forward to seeing them regularly!
Too bad these pens aren’t available for Affinity ☹️
We hear you, if more people make the request we're more likely to port them. As it stands we're a small team and we have to make sure it's going to be popular before spending the time it deserves making an Affinity version.
Stop teaching A.I how to draw and paint ! 😂
Your robot made me buy Inferno Ink--like immediately. (No joke.) If I didn't already have ColorLab I would have bought that too. Both your inking and color work are perfection--I spent a solid 10 minutes just staring at all the gradients and transitions. Absolutely masterful. I know many have said already, but PLEASE do a ColorLab video. I've had the pack for years but sometimes find it so overwhelming that I just reach for a different (read: easier) medium when rendering (because yes, we're lazy, tired, and just want to go to bed!) Lol.
Quite honestly, I don't think I've ever seen ColorLab used as well as you have here. Please teach us a couple tips and tricks!
Dang, this comment made our day! Huge thanks for snagging Inferno Ink-and for the serious gradient appreciation. We totally get the “too tired, just wanna go to bed” struggle (been there, still there). Good news: we’ve got a ColorLab deep dive dropping next week! We’ll break it all down with four-color process printing and a demo to make it less overwhelming (plus probably a coloring sheet to practice). Stay tuned!
