More Sweetly Play The Dance

Josée Drouin-Brisebois, Senior Curator, Contemporary art, National Gallery of Canada, briefs media on the critically acclaimed immersive installation “More Sweetly Play the Dance”, by South African artist William Kentridge - one of the most prominent artists in contemporary art.
Acquired by the Gallery in 2016, this masterpiece immerses viewers in a 30-metre-long procession that combines drawings, brass band music, dancing, and a shadow play featuring people from the streets of Johannesburg, including recycling trolley pullers, musicians, politicians, mourners, and Ebola patients, among others.
