Gotta love working on them almost 40yr old Machines! 👍 It would be interesting to see you do a ATC250r, and a Tecate3 and do like a top quad, but with Trike's! Easier said then done as those are all hard to find, maybe find some channel members that own them and would like to compete?! Anyways, excellent video as always, keep it up!

I dig the blue and white with gold wheels, it reminds me of an early banshee variant. Just a thought, a bit wider rear hub would make this thing alot more stable and fun to ride.

Lovin the tri-z videos so far. My opinion, blue with white plastics looks best. Also looks good regardless of whether you go black air box and seat or blue. Although you gotta keep the gold rims you CAN NOT have 2-stroke three wheeler and not have gold rims ( my opinion once again).

I’m torn between the look of the white and yellow plastics with blue. You definitely should keep the nostalgic gold wheels! Also i have always had great luck using citristrip and then pressure washing them. Then you don’t have to worry about scratches from scraping off the paint. Saves a lot of time as well.

The Tri Z came with only one boost port alot of guys will drill out and make a second one.Another weak spot on the Z is the footpeg bolt thread inserts. Also the reason the clutch case cracked alot on these is people would leave the inner bolt out behind the kickstart gear. The clutch covers are very thin .

The smaller bottle is Yamaha's version of a boost bottle--which were popular in the early 80s. They store the fuel/air mixture when the reed closes (due to back pressure), and release it when it opens. They act as a kind of spring in tandem with the engine--similar to a 2 stroke pipe but on the intake side. Some people call bs on boost bottles but in my experience they work. Yamaha put them on their dirt bikes too.

A friend of mine had a couple Tri-Zs when we were younger, they were fun to ride. He took and turned one into a big wheel cycle, like the BW200 and the FatCat. Both his were the Yellow version
I think you should do a Suzuki LTZ400/KFX400 or the Arctic cat version next, super popular 4 wheelers that have a great following.

The wedge that’s welded from mid pipe to stinger, I’m betting, is so there’s more material holding the silencer besides just the pipe going into it. Most 2stroke expansion chsmbers have a tab welded on, that connects the rear cone of the chamber, to where it turns to the stinger. Without the tab, breaking the pipe free would be relatively easy

Loving the Tri Z content so far 😁 That bottle on the right side is a boost bottle from factory. If you're going oem look than ignore this but some guys make top mounted fuel tanks for these. They should still have them somewhere but look for a billet waterpump shaft/impeller. These have a plastic one that's a weak point. Also be careful of trying to kick over that motor without a foot peg or even a bent one. It can crack the right side case. Not sure why you'd do it but just so you're aware. Can't wait for more videos Mike!!

Im sure the welded triangular portion on the exhaust is more of a brace than for flow. I could be wrong but it looks like an aluminum exhaust and pipe and aluminum cracks easier especially when introduced to higher heat and vibration scenarios. So it really does need it or over time im sure it would crack otherwise. However aluminum also is better for dispersing the heat away and cool quicker as well as stay cooler easier, atleast in this case. Not to mention lighter than steel counterpart!

Just watched your ASPCA finale video and thought I'd put a comment next to this recent video so you would see it! Regarding battery polarity. If the terminals are the wrong way arround, probably not recommended, but if you flatten the battery completely and reverse charge it, should be fine. I did this with a Yuasa battery for a Honda 250, ran it for a couple of years with no problems starting etc! Hope you still have that incorrect battery sitting arround! Great content, thank you👍

I love the look of 10s with smaller wheels on these and I imagine it would make for easy sliding; I like the idea!

I genuinely think the bumble bee looks the best. Gold wheels. Yellow plastics and black frame. Nothing too exciting but it really suits it best in my opinion

So, I’m thinking that gold wheels with black bead locks or black wheels with gold bead locks would look FABULOUS on it with the black plastics and blue frame, head light housing, and seat. Then get the original Tri-Z graphics made, but have them made in blue. It would have an “original vibe” mixed with an “OEM vibe”, and that would be the ultimate restomod scheme. That’s just my opinion. Plus, bead locks are super important on sport trikes for the back wheels because you do steer with the rear often when you ride fast. Last thing you want is to slide into a rock or root and kick it off the bead. The front wheel could use a bead lock if you ride in rocky areas, but if you plan on it being a dune toy then it’s not as important. Hit up Blake over at BVC, he has done some Tri-Z’s and can probably point you in the direction for many parts. Also, D&D restoration restores these old machines and has access to new old stock parts for many machines. After I finish my 250R I’m looking at maybe doing a Tecate 3

That would be a trick color scheme, I hadn't thought about beadlocks but you're right, I wouldn't want to pop a bead doing a powerslide with a trike lmao. It sounds like BVC is going to be involved with the build in some way which I'm stoked about!

@@MichaelSabo BVC makes a SWEET LED head light replacement for most trikes. It doesn’t look too bad and it’s crazy bright

Greg at Off Road Innovations carries Tri-Z parts--also Tecate. I believe he recently had Z headlight bezels made. He also sells billet intakes (for big carbs) and V-force reeds for it. The little triangle on the DG silencer is made for support, not flow. The 85 has the stock shock reservoir, the 86 doesn't. It should be adjustable. The 85 Z had a 5 speed transmission, the 86 a 6 speed. Look for the "Wrench Report" online. It is an old Dirt Wheels article about modifying the Z engine--add another Boyesen port to the intake track (it only comes with one). It makes a big difference. Talon makes a billet basket for the Z--or at least use to. It is listed under the YZ 250 (early to mid 80s), not Tri-Z.

I'm digging the blue on black with gold wheels. I'm sure you're gonna pick the right color scheme. All of those looked really good, with the blue and black.

I think the black plastics and blue frame is the way to go. You can restore most of the plastics to the original color and it looks awesome. Now the black or blue seat cover I’m unsure about
