why still roof finish looks so lame and flat, even after render, I cannot work with such software, especially not on SW USA, otherwise this is best software around
I am sorry to hear this. I would recommend reaching out to our Technical Support team to look into this further. Our support team has a lot of knowledge in this area and can help you troubleshoot this. You can reach technical support at 208-292-3375 Monday - Friday from 7 AM - 4 PM Pacific.
Hello I am having a problem with my floors and ceiling heights and roofs as well. I have tried several things to try to fix it. Can you help me please. I can send you the file. I need a template because most of the homes that I am designing are pretty much the same.
Hello Jeffrey. I have found a few how-to articles that go over the process of changing wall and ceiling heights, raising or lowering a roof plane, and creating a custom plan template. I hope they help. Let us know if you need further assistance. Changing Wall and Ceiling Heights: www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00579/changing-wall-and-ceiling-heights.html Raising or Lowering a Roof Plane: www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00634/raising-or-lowering-a-roof-plane.html Creating a Custom Plan Template from an Existing Project: www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03094/creating-a-custom-plan-template-from-an-existing-project.html
I wish you could do a demo for light commercial building in metric. We are looking at the software extensively for our smaller projects. We uild everything in concrete including stairs, and possibly put an elevator
Hello CarePoint Global. The software is designed to be fast and efficient in residential design. However, some customers use the software for light commercial plans like what you have described. If you have not downloaded the trial I encourage you to try that to gain more of an understanding of the product and to see and use the tools and features that are available in the software. I have linked below where you can request the trial. Trial: www.chiefarchitect.com/products/trial.html
Hi Kayla, what a fabulous video... Please keep up your sharing, I have learned a lot through those. I had a question about making the Gable roof at the front pump out. As instructed, I have drawn an invisible wall to divide the room& dropped down the ceiling height. Also, I selected the two partial walls of each end and hit on the quick-change Gable roof tool below. The shape of the roof didn't show up correctly as the video has shown. There are two individual gable roof bumps up on the top of each small wall. Please share your advice.
Thank you for reaching out. I would recommend submitting your plan to our online support center for our support team to look into this further. You can submit your plan here: support.chiefarchitect.com/home
Great tutorial. :) Can anyone tell me how I can import a level (ie. level 1) from another building plan (file) into an existing plan of the same exterior dimensions as Level 2? This would save me a lot of time recreating the entire level into the new plan.
Currently, this is not available. However, that is a great idea, we are always looking to improve the software for our users. You can send your idea to suggestions@chiefarchitect.com.

Can you please tell me how to have disproportional walls. Like two of my walls are 10'4"(This is the length) and the two parallel ones are 8'6" and 8'9". Whenever I change one or the other, both of them change.
With Home Designer Professional and Chief Architect software you can change the height of a single wall in your plan by editing it in a 3D view, a cross section view, or an elevation view. Changing the height can be done most accurately in a cross section/elevation view. We have a help article that explains the process in more detail here: www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00579. Thanks!
Hello, thank you for the informative video! Just a quick question, how are you able to swing the double doors into different angles after you mulled the units together? The little triangle no longer there for the swing, the triangle is to rotate the door label only. Also, when I try to follow your steps for finish off the roof (timestamp ~43:27), the invisible wall is causing a large gap between the roof and the space above the window (same thing on the other side). I don't see that in your video, what did you do to fix that? Thanks!
Do you have discounts for DIY/Enthusiasts who just want to design their own project for non-commercial use? I'm trying to estimate materials and design options for my first house, a 28'x38' apartment garage. I really don't trust relying solely on the local builders as almost none of my coworkers have had good experiences.
Thank you for reaching out IBUILTTHAT. We do offer another line of software called Home Designer that is geared to the DIY/ Consumer. The website can be found here: www.homedesignersoftware.com/ Let us know if you have any questions.

Really nice demonstration. Framing and roofing tools are really powerful, and speed up everything so much. How about another demonstration of concrete wall buildings? Also does it support metric system and European size materials? There is many difference people often make, i.e. full concrete floors, no crawl space, but a basement instead, etc And extra question, any plans for Linux amd64 version? I am not a fan of Windows at all
Thank you, movax20h! Yes, you can generate a concrete slab foundation and basement. I'd recommend checking out this video: ua-cam.com/video/DUPJ2F_8q14/v-deo.html. There's a pre-configured ICF wall type built into the software that can be modified to fit your needs. You can also create your own concrete wall type. how do you get crown molding
You can double click in a room to open the room specifications, and there will be a moldings panel to specify crown molding.
