Actually it is possible to remove the belt tensioner without removing the pulley and without jacking it up, without removing the wheel and even with a broken 19mm 'nut' which is used to compress the tensioner (and often breaks when an unskilled mechanic applies too much force).
All you need is a 14 mm wrench and an extension (without ratchet, because the ratchet is too big to fit there), and optionally, with some tensioners, a 16 mm wrench
The lower nut is 14 mm and can be easily removed (just turn your steering wheel all the way to the right to create more space). After that unscrew the top bolt - also 14 mm - with the same wrench using proper extension (it takes time to unscrew the top bolt especially if the belt is not removed and under tension). The bolt will stuck there as it is too long to be removed. Then dissassemble the tensioner by unscrewing the middle bolt: you will need a 14 or 16 mm wrench.
Then wiggle the remaining part of the tensioner from underneath or from above the car and after some time you will be able to remove it.
I d also advise to shorten the bolt by 5-6 mm with an angle grinder to simplify future installations.

Actually mate the best way to remove that is on the top i just try it on the bottom because I thought it’s easier 😅 i will make another video if i work a same job again 😉 and you will not grind the bolt it will fit by removing the engine support and jack it up until the longer bolt fit 😉 thanks again for watching and comments 👍

i have a toyota rav4 2015. Millage 100k. Mechanic said i need to replace serpentine belts. Should I replace belt tensioner & pulley at the same time? i dont hear any noise at all. Should I just replace only the belt? do u know how long belt tensioner and pulley last on Rav4? ..

On my experience mate belt tensioner will last more than 100,000 km but if valve cover is leaking and the tensioner already wet with oil i includes also the tensioner when I replace it 😉 but if you have the budget i will rather replace the belt tensioner because car is already 7 years 😉

dont replace belt tensioner bc new rav4 tensioner can last up to 200k ... just replace Serpentine belt + PCV walve .... only use OEM..dont use after market bc it wont last long... Tensioner and pully on new rav4 can last up to 200k

You now replace with an inferior part.. Toyota makes it hydraulic for a reason...🤔

That’s aftermarket part mate 😉 hear at Australia aftermarket parts is quite good and cheaper than the genuine Toyota one you can buy the whole kit including the pulley shown on the video still cheaper than only a hydraulic tensioner for Toyota 😉 and i ask question to customer if they want a genuine one they still choose a aftermarket one 😉
