    Man that last tip is a gem. I usually do just hook, verse1, verse 2 etc.

    One thing I really dislike about music marketing videos is how you'll see videos that have "top 3 guaranteed tips that work" and the advice diametrically contradicts another video that has "top 3 tried and true tips". For example, right off the bat, many music marketers nowadays say to put the music in the background and your content/personality in the foreground, whereas you're saying to make the music the star and everything else secondary. I really need some stats or at least testimonials on the advice we hear these days, because of course we know there is no panacea or best method (it's always dependent you and on the goals and context) but the sheer whiplash of the marketing advice that musicians get these days is a bit frustrating.

      This is a really important comment. Thank you for taking the time to watch, digest, and share your thoughts here. I agree, there is a vast amount of conflicting information out there about how to market your music. Here's how I think about it all:
      First, I tend to come at everything I speak about from first principles. Basically, I logic it out from the ground up, doing my best to connect A to B. In this case, my thought process is that if you're trying to sell a product, then you need to show people the product. Whatever it is you're showing people, that's what you're selling. If you're showcasing your personality in a video, that's what you're selling. Taking that from first principles, I would ask, "how does showcasing your personality sell your music?" If you're selling music, sell music. You wouldn't sell Coca-Cola without making Coca-Cola the focus.
      Second, I try to base everything I do off of experience. Granted, this is tough to always showcase as effectively as I would like. I have a ton of experience testing things for my own music (which I believe is of the utmost importance when it comes to music marketing advice) but I also have waaaaay more information from pattern recognition across all of the artists I've served through my courses, consultations, and agency. Not to mention the DM and email conversions I've had over the years just picking things apart with people for free.
      But the most important takeaway I would share is this: watch a few videos on what's important to you at the time, then close social media and try different things for yourself. If you're seeing videos that tell you to showcase your personality, and it feels logical to you, try that. If you see videos that tell you to put your music front and center and it sounds logical to you, try that. Do both and see what works best for you.
      Like you said, there is no panacea or best method that works for every single person every single time. Use social media to gather ideas and then get to work trying a host of different options to uncover what works best for you.
