The 2024 Polestar 2 Performance Is A More Likable Swedish Electric Sporty Sedan

  • The #Polestar2 was the brand's first mass produced all-electric vehicle when it first came out in 2021. For 2024, the #Polestar brand is making its first round of significant upgrades which involves new electric motors, a new battery pack on RWD versions, more range, better tech, and improved charging speeds. The #Polestar2Performance is the brand's answer to the latest #TeslaModel3 and while it still lags behind in some areas, the latest 2 is a far more appealing sports sedan that should continue to do well in its segment.

Drive polestar 2 for three years. Very satisfied. It looks fantastic, during my three years drive so many people stop by and asked for the car. The quality is great. It didn't use leather but the interior still looks premium. I will trade in my polestar 2 this year and buy polestar 4. Can't wait.

We've got a 2023 Dual motor and really like it. We actually really like the recycled PET material, it has a nice texture and is very easy to clean. We also got the basic textile seats and prefer that over the weavetech, the textile definitely feels more premium than a basic car cloth seat and the weavetech doesn't breathe well ( we live in Phoenix, it's also why we didn't get the glass roof).
The cupholder situation and piano black plastic suck ass though, no way around it. I also am not fond of the plastic that is in place of the wood on more basic trims, it has a nice texture but feels thin and brittle.

Had a ‘22 for over 2 years now. Reliability is excellent, build quality is Volvo family rock solid, and tech gets updated in OTA updates. Infotainment is easy to use and not overly distracting. Sure, no changing cabin colors or turn signal farting sound, but that’s fine with me. These cars are mostly leased, not bought, so they are a great value in the second hand market. It drives like a sport sedan and feels like a Saab in many ways. A great drivers car overall.

I actually just test drove a single motor Polestar since our XC60 is coming off lease. I also have an Audi Q5 and previously had an A4 in the current generation. This review does a very good job overall but I think misses a couple of things.
    First the good:
    - Even the single motor is fun to drive and sporty. It may not be as fast as the one tested here but it was plenty fast.
    - The ride is definitely firm and on the sporty side. Even more so than my old A4 and way more than the XC60, which is much softer. Like he pointed out, the car does have a heavier feel, especially the steering. Regenerative braking is strong. Overall, I liked the way it drove, but if you are looking for something more plush than sporty, this is not it.
    - I like the styling and like the hatch. The glass roof is cool, but I don't know how it feels in the summer.
    The less good:
    - I'm 6'2" with broad shoulders and large feet. The interior is definitely tight. I could fit reasonably well in the front, but the fromt of the center console does intrude on knee room if you are taller. I also had to be careful getting out because it was easy to hit my head. The back seat is probably ok for kids but I couldn't fit at all. It is really cramped.
    - The ergonomics of the center console are a mess. The cupholders are a pain and the location of the shifter and emergency blinker button relative to the infotainment screen was annoying. I accidentally hit both of them trying to reach the screen. Also, I LOVE Audi's adjustable center armrest (you can adjust height and length) and really wish this car had it.
    - Like he said, the dash and infotainment are a real improvement over the old Volvo Sensus system on our XC60. The infotainment graphics are also slicker than my Audi's. However, the usability still isn't great. You still have to hunt around for different functions and I only barely scratched the surface on the test drive. I guess you would get used to it, but honestly, Audi's system is much easier to use. Also, the 360 camera really is not as sharp as either Audi's or Volvo's and it's annoying that you can't pair it with the rearview camera like you can with Audi and others. The Audi virtual cockpit dash also more functional than this, but Polestar is an improvement over Volvo.
Overall, I liked the way the car drove and the overall design, but I'm not sure how great it is as a daily driver. They really need to get the packaging and usability to match the driving experience.

I live 70 miles away from my Polestar dealer and I had one issue in 3 years. It really wasn't a problem with the car, it was a 2 year maintenance check. They sent a Polestar truck to pick up my car and drop off the loaner. Two days later the same truck bought my car back to my house and took the loaner away. The only reason it took two days is I loved driving the newest model with ventilated leather seats and I wanted to keep it an extra day. The driver even parked my car in my driveway. BTW, the loaner was the exact car in this video, same color and interior. I have no complaints. In three years I have never had to drive to Polestar for any service. How many people can say that they haven't been to a service center in three years?

Thank you Sofyan another awesome review. I know that you have your fair share of experience with android automotive infotainment system, but it is awful. I have an android, and it does not have android auto. You can connect your account, but it’s not the same as having android auto. The graphics are great, but because there’s no start button or accessory button as soon as you take, one butt cheek off, the driver seat, the entertainment system shuts off and transfers to your phone.
The visibility is terrible. In this car, it’s extremely cramped and you can’t see out of the back very well, the Center tunnel intrudes so much that you’re always hitting your knee on it. I think it’s a beautiful car, the pro pilot assist works really well, the car is very quiet and well composed over bumps, but I would never ever buy one again. The new Tesla Model 3 redesign is a superior car to the Polestar 2 in mostly every way at a fraction of the cost. Better tech, range, interior room, interior quality. You have to be dumb to buy this at $70k when you can get a new Model 3 for $46k or even a used Polestar 2 for $25k

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 5 місяців тому

That depends on how you define superior. The Polestar is a very solid car. No Tesla is anywhere near as solid as a Polestar. Polestar is also great at dynamic qualities in terms of handling, braking, balance.

@@benjaminsmith2287 The refresh Model 3 is more solid than the Polestar 2 from my test drive of both. Tesla really made the new Model 3 more solid with better interior materials than the Polestar 2. In terms of handling the old pre-refresh is a superior driver’s car. It sits lower, steering felt better, and regen braking just felt 100% better than the Polestar 2.

@@chrisak49 I don't find that one bit. The Tesla's steering twitchy at higher speeds and requires more careful attention to the more linear Polestar steering. The Tesla is more like a go cart but on balance, Polestar's handling is better sorted. As for solidity, I don't know about the refresh but it is the same platform with some enhancements and I found on the platform/shell level the car needed to be updated and this is a refresh, not a new car. But if you prefer the Tesla, fine. There are attributes that other cars, like Polestar, that I feel are better developed than Tesla.

70k is too much for a China 🇨🇳 sourced Geely. Volvo has just sold all of its holdings in Polestar to Geely according to Reuters.

This is a Volvo, not a Geely. It's an actual Volvo with Polestar tuning and bit of Polestar styling in the interior. And Geely owns Volvo and Polestar and this is just a way for Volvo to free up its financial pockets some. Volvo is still developing cars with Polestar, sharing personnel and facilities and testing and software, building the Polestar 3 in the USA, and servicing Polestars at their dealers. Volvo is committed to Polestar as Polestar is really a part of Volvo.
