  • Here is a chase of a Union Pacific Autorack train along the Feather River Route between Tunnel 36 just West of Portola all the way to the well known Clio Trestle.
I scouted this area a good bit ahead of time as far as positioning myself in the best location to be able to fly this whole section and it all worked out pretty well.
The SD40-2 was a nice touch to the train as it traversed this rugged area.
All footage taken from a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

Wonderful footage Dan! Capturing Smith Peak in the background with the trestle shot looked marvelous.

Love your videos Dan! Flying that drone forward must be a piece of cake for you. :) I really like how you fly backwards. Adds a different perspective of drone videos.

Great video, I lived in this area for 40 years and knew people who lived underneath this trestle and close by. You capture the UP train with excellent camera shots, nice flying.

Okay, now this is an epic shot, also quick question, you gonna fly in the Blue Mountains or the gorge anytime soon?

I've done the Blues once about a year ago and I spend time in the Gorge every now and again.

Were you able to stay in one location ro operate your drone, or did you have to drive?

    • @TheRailfanDan

I did pull it off from one location! It took a bit of planning ahead of time.

how many times did you have to relocate?

Shot all seamlessly except for the edited out parts when I look behind to check for trees and such.
