Feather River Canyon drone chase: Union Pacific train 9/4/2017

- Here is a westbound Union Pacific autorack train led by UP8931 through the Feather River Canyon. This is actually the same train as my video at Williams Loop.
The first location is at Tobin, the second is Rock Creek, and the last is Pulga.
This was during bad fires in Northern California so the haze of smoke gets worse as the video continues.
All taken from a DJI Mavic Pro.

These shots are absolutely beautiful. The resolution is unmatched. I've seen scale layouts that makes this look run-of -the-mill. I did a double take thinking this was a model. That's a compliment to great modelers, not an insult to this fine video. Thanks.

I just noticed You only have 100 likes for this Awesome Video. It is impossible to watch this and not enjoy the beautiful Canyon topography, the river rapids and the meandering train motion through this beautiful place. I just don't get it that someone can watch this and not want to show some appreciation by giving it a LIKE !

I visited the canyon once a few years back. What an stunning and beautiful place. Your drone vid shows the canyons awesome scenery in spectacular fashion that you can't see from the ground.

It's hard to imagine the amount of work that went into building the tracks through there let alone exploring the route before building it.
We had lunch along the rails just off the trestle in the opening moments of this video last year. Rock Creek Bridge. Always fun when we actually get to see a train pass. Thanks.

Thanks Railfan Dan for the reply. I just rewatched Your video through Feather River Canyon. Just as EPIC as the first time I watched it. I can only conclude that you must have been on the train itself to be able to have reception with the drone while filming in the canyon. However You did it. It was Amazingly Beautiful.
The California Zephyr’s Western Pacific segment traveled the Feather River.
Great scenery for CZ passengers here and the Denver & Rio Grande segment between Salt Lake & Denver.

I do not understand why this video got any dislikes at all. It is excellent and an outstanding use for drone photography.
Because the soundtrack spoils the awesomeness of the railroad running through the Feather River Canyon, can't hear the locomotive horns echoing throughout the canyon.

Not only is your tracking excellent . . but the time-of-day lighting is as well. Overhead sun highlights all the features of the terrain. Very good in particular west of the Pulga bridges through Milepost 238 . . an area difficult to capture roadside.
Paul Lanyi Thanks a lot I hadn't thought of that aspect specifically but you're right. I wish I could have gotten the tunnels just a bit farther west of there too but signal ran out.

Summer of 1964 and 1965 I worked at the famous Feather River Inn . Caught alot of trout in that ol river, I did.

Great pace shots there. What kind of range do you have with that drone? Looks like almost a mile from your footage.
It's rated for over 4 miles but you can only do about 2 and have the battery life to make it back.

cant imagine building a railroad through here, train safety from rock slides!!
I lived near there for over 30 years and traveled up and down that road year round. Yes, rock slides are a problem, but UP has a high railer going down the track ahead of the train to make sure the track is clear.

I have a DVD of the Feather River Canyon by Pentrex. I watch it a lot. Based on this video, since there is only a single engine, I guess I can concur that this is an empty train.
