    Guts and Griffih go trough the hero journey, but on inverse ways.
    Griffith when he meets guts, is a hero. Willing to sacrifice his own body to minimize his people losses ( doing sexual favors to another lord). Always goes in the frontline, willing to risk his own neck. And always fight for the clan. Even if his goals are selfish, he ultimately highly appreciate the Hawks. His inner despair slowly makes him question his own goal in life. And when guts leaves, he falls to that dispair. Wich later becomes one of the reasons for the eclipse.
    Guts . starts as a cursed individual. Born from a dead mother, despised by his surrogate father, raped by his war companion. But somehow always found warm in believing in his close ones , and then got betrayed, over and over. However he always choose to believe and take care of his own. the way Griffith did at some point for the Hawks.
    While Guts slowly became more sympathetic towards humanity no matter the griefs Griffith grew up more and more distant from his own humanity.

    Great analysis. If possible, could you ever do an analysis on Johan Liebert from the manga Monster by Naoki Urasawa? Bro, berserk has the best protagonist and antagonist. You can’t change my mind

  • @infinitearrow8
    @infinitearrow8 Рік тому +18

    I have been thinking in my head for so long that the fanbase’s claim that Griffith never loved anyone was wrong, and I’m thankful that someone else sees this. I’ve done my best to try and imagine what it would take mentally to make all of the decisions Griffith has made and I can’t conclude anything other than the fact that he loved guts, the band of the hawk, his own personality, and most of all his own ability to pursue his dream.
    In the midst of having to choose the entire hawk or both his former self (before the torture) and his own dream, he chooses his ego and dream because he perceives love and care as weakness. Griffith only got so far in his own mind because he believed he was secretly unfazed by losing his companions or even his dignity in order to chase his dream, the result was that he was an awe-inspiring image of greatness in the eyes of his companions and THEREFORE in the eyes of himself.
    After losing guts, cascas love, and his body, he assumed he was no long worthy of being looked at as great and thus couldn’t accept that in the eyes of those who he cared about they still saw him that way, and more importantly, he placed no importance on the love he had for them. The remedy to his trouble was to recognize himself in the eyes of those who he should allow himself to love, but in his own mind love is what had gotten him to such a desolate position in the first place, he loved guts and couldn’t stand no longer having his admiration around because like you said he was dependent on him, he also masked his love for guts as his ownership of him, and in the end he sacrifices his life’s greatest accomplishment (the family of the hawk), for some arbitrary role of godhood in which he can no longer be loved by anyone because in order for them to love him he now has to hide what he truly is..
    and yeah he’s a god now, but all of the love people of Falconia now show him is also the direct result of physical things that he has done, whereas as the man Griffith he was loved and admired not because of what physical things he was achieving, but because his guidance and care for his mercenaries gave all of them purpose, he himself was a god in their eyes even without the power of the astral realm. Griffith’s character as a whole is the result of him misunderstanding his own self, because he believed suppressing himself is what was necessary to achieve his dream, funny enough his dream was staring him in the face the whole time in the image of guts and the hawk, because why would anyone want a kingdom? For the satisfaction of inner pride. If he retained some humility, Griffith would have allowed himself to see guts as an equal and he would have respected the feelings associated with him and the hawk as well as what they truly saw him for, he would’ve by extension been able to love himself too. You could say that Griffith laid out the parameters of seeing someone as an equal when he talked to charlotte but it’s just not true, he would never see anyone as an equal because of his pride, which is why when guts leaves, he doesn’t see him as an equal as he should, he sees it as a loss of power. In the real world pride will eventually lead to ruin and the person in question will have to sacrifice that pride through recognizing that they can’t control everything (like when guts leaves) and the humility they adopt will also allow them to see who they are through the eyes of their companions, they then can also love themselves, what is interesting is that in berserk the prideful can remain ignorant to this, and thus femto is born…. I went on a rant but anyway loved the video, berserk is incredible

      griffith was always the hawk of light, the one who could seize destiny and make dreams come true before he was ever femto, a mere shadow of his former self. a pathetic loser who can never open up to anybody again, not even the small helpless rickert. the greatest tragedy of his character is that his dreams and the dreams of his compatriots became one and much too heavy for one man. he was their king, even when he was a commoner. he was the wind of change, that guided the blaze of his band of hawk. he became a slave to destiny instead of freedoms champion. and i think most people find him so unforgiveable because even nearly every reader gave griffith their dream. to see something spectular, to see humanity win against the force of chaos. most people empathize with guts rage for the same reason guts feels it, betrayal by someone you loved, not because of treachery through cold hearted calculation (that would be more forgiveable imo) but because of meekness, just going along with the flow of evil instead of fighting it... griffith was never so weak to us before, and he will never achieve the same heights as femto as he did the mortal hawk of light.

    I agree with everything you've said except for saying Griffith underwent the process of individuation.
    Griffith's personalities began to splinter after Guts left the Band of the Hawk. During the eclipse what we witness was Griffith's shadow taking over in the form of Femto.
    Now Griffith exists in three forms... Femto, Griffith, and the Moonlight Child. He will NEVER be able to reconcile those three aspects of his personality and thus he will never truly achieve individuation.
    Guts on the other hand, seems to be going through that process now, and if he does succeed with integrating his shadow into his conscious mind, then he will finally have the power to confront Griffith.
    However, in the end I don't think Guts will choose revenge. He'll put Griffith in his place one last time, and then forgive him, leaving Griffith's fragile, fragmented psyche shattered once again.

    I wouldn’t call Griffith evil. It is only during the events of the eclipse that Griffith lets evil into his heart of Darkness.
    Think Griffith has a lot in common with Lucifer: he’s angelic, highly intelligent, and falls from grace. Another character worth comparing with Griffith and Femto is The Judge from Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian”: both The Judge and Griffith see knowledge not as a means for enlightenment but rather as a means for domination.
    Even with Femto the notion that evil is “chaotic” is inverted, since the Godhand are hard determinists-fatalists, to be exact. The Godhand have more in common with authoritarianism and conservatism- through their aims of control, order, hierarchy, and religious indoctrination via the Holy See.

    • @michaeldalscais2538
      @michaeldalscais2538 2 роки тому +1

      @Fiction Psychologist I just realised (upon reviewing my above comment) that you explicitly mentioned the link between Griffith and Lucifer in your video … as such, you have my apologies.
      Another amendment I would make is to my comments on the Godhand’s ideology: they are obviously totalitarian, that much I shan’t amend, but to call them “conservative” (as I did) is absurd (I don’t know what I was thinking!); religion for the Godhand serves merely as a convenient tool, a theocratic tool, and theocracy is just a subset of authoritarianism.
      An additional character that I’d compare with Femto - indeed not a “character” at all, but a real person - is Reinhard Heydrich: here was a man who desired nothing less than complete domination of everything, control over himself and everything around him, who desired (as an ideal) to “supervise” each and every citizen within his suzerainty …. for everything to be under his wings ….; or as reviewer Tarasicossida put it, in her review of Conspiracy: “A man with no use whatsoever for any feelings, who despised sadism because even that is a feeling. A perfectionist of tremendous ability in anything he chose to do, without the least shred of humanity.”

      The whole point of sacrifice is that you have to let go of something you hold dear. I don't think that any Behelit would end up with people that have nothing to sacrifice. Rather than amassing an army of psychopaths, it turns people into ones. So yes, clearly, Griffith had something to lose.
      Indeed, Griffith did not completely lose his humanity until the moment he turned into Femto. However, what's most terrifying about Griffith is that he created himself into the manifestation of evil. He chose not to care; he had, but he purposefully stopped to. Besides, his caring depended on other people worshipping him: His caring was self-centred, not selfless. Even the river scene just demonstrates that he keeps finding excuses for his actions but knows they're wrong (hence the denial of guilt). Therefore the comparison with Lucifer etc. Such kind of caring becomes highly questionable.

    Рудра-таттва непостижима. Гриффит не Люцифер ( чтобы не верить в Сатану надо лучше изучить вайшнавскую сиддханту). Всего лишь один из многих Гаруд. Garuda. Грифиттс и Ганс не соединяются))) они просто знакомы сейчас, когда то была дружба. Гриф в благости Ганс в невежестве.

    Nietzsche's philosophy about morality not coming in contact with reality is misguided. In reality we have laws to distinguish right from wrong and it is arguably inspired by God.

    Никаких оснований "что ему подвластны боги" хотя манга с самого начала не претендует на правдивость философии. Миура неплохо потрудился для upa-dharma таких как новые семитские религии. "Жертвует всем и показывает богам..." - всем пожертвовать невозможно, это тот же фейк что продать душу. Душа выше любой цены, решений, воли, свободы - согласно Бхагавад Гите бессмертна, неуничтожима и качественно равна Богу. Да что я рассказываю, Вам ничего о Нём не известно наверное кроме имени?
    Чтобы жертвовать хоть чем то малым нужно бескорыстие. Вы жертвовали плохой компанией или обществом алкоголиков? Думаю нет. Зомбирующее видео. Согласен с 24 минутой.
    И не согласен с решениями Миуры и других авторов изобразить Зодда чёртом (devil), этот характер очень подходит одному из ведийских божеств.

      He slept with a man when he is heterosexual, organized an assassination in which he wasn't the killer, and attempted to rape a king's daughter. How is that not wrong?
