Written by Wilbert Harrison, an R&B artist from the 50's and 60's. The original version of the song was called "Let's Stick Together". Bryan Ferry covered it in the 70's.
Hey, Amber's line "Make someone smile" is a lyric in this song." make someone happy, make someone smile, let's all work together and make that world worth while"
This is another song that reminds me of my time in Vietnam and returning home. Thanks for playing much of the music I missed from the summer of 1968 to the fall of 1970. This does make me smile like CTA. Semper Fi
Bob Hite on vocals this time and Alan Wilson killing it on slide guitar. Larry Taylor playing bass and showing us why he was one of the absolute best. Fito De La Parra being the journeyman drummer that he is...and one of the last surviving members of the band, along with Harvey Mandell. Incredible talent in this band!
Have always loved this group. Canned Heat is a great blues & rock band that was formed in 1965. Their two biggest hits were "On The Road Again" in 1967 & "Going Up The Country" in 1968. Also love their song from 1970 "Let's Work Together".
YES YES YES> Such a great tune, one I play a lot for that ." make someone happy, make someone smile, let's all work together and make that world worth while", they were such a great blues band.
Love canned heat.I have this song in my "work playlist"For a special treat when you get time watch them do it live. You don't have to record yourself doing it,just do it for yourself. It's the version I have in my Playlist
With this, you've covered Canned Heat's hit singles. Unlike "On The Road Again" and "Going Up The Country" the lead vocalist is Bob (the Bear) Hite, a man of ample girth who would stalk the stage like Howlin' Wolf. Hite and Al (Blind Owl) Wilson had legendarily large record collections of blues and rhythm and blues records. To me the quintessential Canned Heat cut is "Fried Hockey Boogie" with all the members taking a turn in the spotlight.
I can remember when Canned Heat made an appearance on the old TV show Playboy After Dark. Hugh Hefner heard that Bob Hite liked to collect old 78rpm records and asked him how many he had and he said 15,000.
The original version of the song was called Let’s Stick together. Also Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry did a fun dance cover of this song, called Let’s stick together…I recommend checking out that banger as well!
Lots of people react to the British band 10 years after live at Woodstock I'm going home, and then maybe one of their huge hits in the early seventies, I'd love to change the world. But they were just so incredible. They have so much good stuff. For example, off of that same A Space in Time album that I'd love to change the world is from, check out once there was a time. It's fantastic storytelling and it leads off side B of the album. But basically everything on that album is incredible.
Yes! What a great song! If you're ever going to do a cover reaction day, you can go either way. This song was originally recorded in 1962 by Wilbert Harrison and he reworked it in 1969. Roxy Music’s frontman Bryan Ferry released his version "Let's Stick Together" six years later than this Canned Heat version. For Bryan Ferry, make sure you watch the music video so you can see Jerry Hall.
Amber hit the nail on the head. Blues and rock go together. It's no coincidence that most of the great rock bands were heavily influenced by the early Blues artists.
That’s what it was Earlier Biker Music ! Can heat was my kind of music and I didn’t even know it because I was so young but old enough to love the party to it. I think I was something around 17 years old something like that , that’s good you like that music I really like your program keep it up. You guys are doing a wonderful job !
Glad you got back to Canned Heat. Always love hearing the groove on this one. Different singer than the other three you listened to. This is Bob "The Bear" Hite. Give a listen to Amphetamine Annie, Fried Hockey Blues and Same All Over.
Great message in the lyrics. Music like this is part of how this old rural Southern Boy escaped growing up to be a bigot. "Every boy, girl, woman and a man.."
Hooker n' Heat!John lee hooker and Canned heat,Play "Boogie Chill-un no.2!"The best they ever boogied! Incredible Harmonica solo by BlindOwl, Alan Wilson You'll love it!
The Prodigy - Out Of Space? this is when british rave music exploded and this band got boys on the dancefloor. it was euphoric to say the least. Best British dance band of all time.i became a Prodigy groupie and toured the UK watching them. I made it out the other side!!!
This would be a deep dive for you, Canned Heat was heavily influenced by the legendary bluesman, John Lee Hooker. They were able to record a double album with him called Hooker'n Heat that's just incredible. I know I've suggested the song "Boogie Chillen No.2" from that several times (ok, more than several, lol) but it is a 9:00 minute song and I know you stay away from those long songs. So from the same album try "Let's Make It", you'll love it! Peace!
In 2007 a movie came out called Across the Universe. It was a musical with 100% Beatles songs. All the actors sing the Beatles songs. The movie starts with the doo-wop Beatles music that they started with then as it progresses it gets into the more psychedelic music. It sets place in the 60's with the start of rock, to race riots, the Vietnam war and the draft. I can't imagine you can react to a movie, but you should find it and watch it for your own pleasure.
Amber, ♥ the shirt. I worked on Miller's Ranch in southern Oregon the last two summers he owned it; just north of Williams. They should let the two of you be in charge of the music played at the School Dances.
How about some Los Lobos, a Mexican-American rock band from East Los Angeles? Some of their songs are, shakin’ shakin’ shakes, (set me free) rosa lee, will the wolf survive
When I was a young man I had a friend that was a DJ at a radio station. When they received the first release from Canned Heat, he played it for me and asked me if I thought the group had any potential. I told him that I liked the sound and the station should play the song. They did and the song was well received in my hometown. Apparently a lot of others had the same reaction all over the country.😊
I've been waiting for this song the entire time I've been watching your channel because I think of it every time you say "make someone smile"! Love Canned Heat. Another amazing song from them is Fried Hockey Boogie. Each band member has a solo that shows just how amazing each member of the group was.
I just know y'all would love Canned Heat's " Fried Hockey Boogie." Each member of the band gets their time in the spotlight by way of great instrument solos.
Hi Amber & Jay. This song was the soundtrack to my musical appreciation back in the day. Great music, great memories. Take a look at the video to this on the BBC TOP OF THE POPS. Check out the ladies dancing! Jeff
I don't know if you guys paid attention or not when you reacted to Forrest Gump, but this particular Canned Heat song was featured in the movie Forrest Gump at the part after Forrest runs into Lt. Dan and they spend New Years together and they are partying with those loose women at Lt. Dan's place and Forrest rejects the blonde from kissing him and getting on top of Forrest. Canned Heat Let's work together was playing in that part in the scene of the movie. Go back and watch the part I am talking about and pay close attention to the song playing.
Jay/Amber, For Female Friday: Fanny, the first female rock band to release Albums(4) on a major label, Reprise (1970-73). ex. "Place in the Country" (1971) LIVE ua-cam.com/video/QkVYnVAEMIU/v-deo.html . They were the first female rock band to tour extensively as well. Their band name is to denote the female spirit. David Bowie said ““They were one of the finest f***ing rock bands of their time…They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherf**kers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Classic lineup June Millington-lead vocals/lead guitar; Jean Millington-lead vocals, bass; Nickey Barclay- lead vocals, keys;Alice de Buhr-drums, vocals. The one song you did by them was from their last album, which didn't include original guitarist/vocalist June Millington and and original drummer/vocals Alice de Buhr. It was not representative of their greatness.
When I first The Beatles Hey Bulldog by Fanny, I thought this group were musical trailblazers for women in rock. Before The Runaways to Joan Jett, The Go-Go’s and The Bangles, Fanny were there first.
Canned Heat did interpretations of older blues songs that are enjoyable to listen to, much like early Stones and bands like that. I don't think they lasted long enough to graduate to writing their own songs, but they did what they did well.
Hey guys, I seen in your past reactions how you like New Edition and New Kids on the Block. I think there's something that you should check out and react to. It's called the "Battle of Boston". It's a performance with both of those groups at the American Music Awards. Both groups were discovered by the same person but New edition was before New kids on the Block. In many people's opinion, if it wasn't for New Edition, there would have been no New Kids on the Block, Bell Biv DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Boyz II Men etc.
80's bands you haven't done: Romeo Void - " Never say Never", Missing Person 's - "Words", The Call - "I Still Believe", Split Enz - "One Step Ahead Of You"
This was standard fare for us old farts. We had seen fads and genres go by over the years, but we still love classic / acid rock and that's where you'll find us.
I first heard this song when a friend who was a DJ named Rabbit at Stanford University's radio station, "the kazoo" or KZSU, played it one night in about 1974. I searches for this album for months before finding a copy in a 99 cent punch out bin. I never regretted the long search.
Canned Heat's lead guitarist is Harvey Mandell. You got to check out his guitar stuff like Baby Batter. Great stuff from this wonderful Psychedelic Boogie Hippie era
That's why the music was so good in the 60s & 70s because most of the music was either folk based rock or blues based & then you add in the psychedelic and Bam, you got the best music ever, oh yeh, country rock mixed with blues too was great like the Grateful Dead & Nutty Gritty Dirt Band. Then there was a group called "Vanilla Fudge" that covered," Set me Free" a Soul Acid Rock blend. " Sky & the Family Stone" brought the Funk We had it all & you should check out these bands. A really great Reggae Band, a Christian Reggae Band called "Christafari" you should check them out. They are one of the very best Reggae Bands in the World, they give free concerts on their US & World tours & write a lot of their own music. They are Top Ranking & Live they are very Electric & Exciting.
Legendary British bluesman John Mayall cut a track called 'The Bear' relating his time staying with the guys from Canned Heat in LA, featuring future Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor. Worth a listen.
To really hear Canned Heat get it on, check out their song FRIED HOCKEY BOOGIE. Canned Heat was started by two of the singers Bob the Bear Hite, who sings with the gravely voice and Al Wilson, the one who sings with the high voice like on GOIN' UP THE COUNTRY and ON THE ROAD AGAIN. Both these singsers were collectors of old blues music. Most of their songs are covers of very old blues songs. Check out the following two examples of the roots of Canned Heat: BULL DOZE BLUES by Henry Thomas recorded in 1928, and BOOGIE CHILLEN by John Lee Hooker in 1948.
I'm going to echo what another commenter said. Please put the all girl rock band Fanny on your channel! Any of their Beat Club videos are fantastic!! Young & Dumb, Place In the Country, Ain't That Peculiar, Blind Alley. They were absolute trailblazers and they do not get their due!!
Yes! The Beat Club performances are the best. The studio recordings were toned down by the label. I will add Last Night I Had A Dream and Hey Bulldog to the list. They added a verse to Hey Bulldog with John Lennon's approval. There is a documentary film called Fanny- The Right To Rock that came out in 2022.
For more bluesy rock check out the Fabulous Thunderbirds; “Tuff Enough” for starters. No complaints for tonight’s selections, however, I would’ve thought Moms deserved more than one song!
Oh yeah , I love Canned Heat , it's too bad the original members all left us a long time ago , except the drummer . You can't go wrong cranking up some Canned Heat !
Hey Jay & Amber, I thought I'd suggest another song by a band I believe you've reacted to once before. So, I thought I'd suggest another one of their songs, if interested. "Counting Crowes - Big Yellow Taxi ft. Vanessa Carlton (Official Video)" (by the channel: Counting Crowes) --This song was originally written and recorded by Joni Mitchell and released in 1970 from her album "Ladies of The Canyon" But Counting Crowes rendition did very well on the charts. It was featured on their fourth studio album called "Hard Candy." It's great seeing you two bring on such wonderful singers from bands and groups I grew up listening too. You two rock
Years ago I imagined this as a perfect campaign theme song. I wish I had a connection to the Harris Campaign as this is the perfect "should have been" song. Upbeat simple lyrics about togetherness through WORK (one of Her themes) Maybe it's been used this way before, I don't know Picture full arenas rocking to it. Singing together. THIS is the tune
WOW! Whatta Sunday! LITTLE FEAT & CANNED HEAT. Keep the grove!
Classic rollback!
Totally agree. This is my kind of music and IMHO the best and only type of music worth listening to!
Almost brought a tear to the eye!

Fun fact. Wilbert Harrison is the first act I saw live. He opened a Creedence Clearwater Revival show. Booker T & the MGs followed Wilbert.

I was waiting for them to get to this song for exactly that reason. And as fate would have it, they paused right over that line and didn't hear it.

Amber nailed it. Nothing blends better than blues and rock.
I like how you two remember what and who you've listened to.
Go back and watch the part I am talking about and pay close attention to the song playing.
the Woodstock flick.... watching the stage bounce under Bear.....
I wish I could put 100 likes on this. It's a crime that the very first all female rock band to cut albums for a major label is virtually unknown!!
Dude get a grip
Charity Ball was a hit by Fanny
When I first The Beatles Hey Bulldog by Fanny, I thought this group were musical trailblazers for women in rock. Before The Runaways to Joan Jett, The Go-Go’s and The Bangles, Fanny were there first.
Canned Heat did interpretations of older blues songs that are enjoyable to listen to, much like early Stones and bands like that.
I don't think they lasted long enough to graduate to writing their own songs, but they did what they did well.
Played on every juke box in every bar in the country!
Hands down my favourite song ever, since I first heard it in the 60s.
80's bands you haven't done: Romeo Void - " Never say Never", Missing Person
's - "Words", The Call - "I Still Believe", Split Enz - "One Step Ahead Of You"
This song was one of the ones used in Forest Gump also. During the New Years Eve Lt. Dan and the two prostitutes scene. It's a classic.
You guys might remember hearing this in the soundtrack to the movie "Invincible" with Mark Walberg.
One of the best ever songs of the 20th century
I saw Canned Heat in Concert in the late 70’s. There were a lot of bikers at that concert! It was a real time capsule of the late 60’s.
This was standard fare for us old farts. We had seen fads and genres go by over the years, but we still love classic / acid rock and that's where you'll find us.
I love this song, I've always thought the lyrics to this song are great words to live your life by. Wishing you both well and sending peace
Loved Canned Heat in my teens (I'm now 66) great to hear this again.
" Sky & the Family Stone" brought the Funk
We had it all & you should check out these bands.
This song was in Forrest Gump. Great song!
Canned Heat members RIP. the live Woodstock version is "Tops" Rock on Rob Squad
First record I ever bought myself, this made me realise there were other bands besides The Beatles and it took me into more heavier rock music.
Still listen to my Fanny albums now
@@jameshouston2174 Me too, but I also keep going to their live performances, especially Beat Club. It's great to watch them rocking out.
I love your videos happy mothers day
For more bluesy rock check out the Fabulous Thunderbirds; “Tuff Enough” for starters.
No complaints for tonight’s selections, however, I would’ve thought Moms deserved more than one song!
Love It; Down Home Gold Classic!!!! GREAT choice You Guys... Fun watching you Love It Too! :)
Canned Heat recorded some strong studio albums in the 1970's after Al Wilson's death, particularly "Historical Figures" and "The New Age".
I saw them in 1968 when they opened for the Doors. I was a junior in high school.
An all time classic. Canned Heat. ( Pre ZZ Top R & B) Great!
LOVE Canned Heat, Alan Wilson in particular! Y'all are on a roll with this and Little Feat. Hell yeah!
What a superb guitar tone.
Blind Owl Wilson Pickin it
Great song. There is a black and white/color video of a bunch of chicks dancing to this song, that really makes it stand out.
Classic 12 bar blues. Can't miss!
Years ago I imagined this as a perfect campaign theme song.
I wish I had a connection to the Harris Campaign as this is the perfect "should have been" song.
Upbeat simple lyrics about togetherness through WORK (one of Her themes)
Maybe it's been used this way before, I don't know
Picture full arenas rocking to it. Singing together.
THIS is the tune
There is a song incredibly similar to this called "Lets Stick Together" by Bryan Ferry that's has amazing vocals and energy to it...
