  • SUPERVOLCANO! 7 Supervolcanoes That Threaten The Future of Humanity (Including, Yellowstone, potentially the world’s BIGGEST volcano eruption!)
A supervolcano is defined as having the capacity to produce a super-eruption that ejects at least 1000 cubic kilometers of volcanic material. That’s about 1000 times greater than any recorded volcanic event in modern human history.
Supervolcanoes are created when a momentous volume of deep super heat and magma rises toward the earth’s surface and forms a high-pressure pool as it is presses against and is unable to break through the Earth’s crust. As time passes, the massive pool of magma grows and the pressure builds until a mega-eruption takes place.
There are 7 active supervolcanoes that we know of.
    7. Aira Caldera, Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan
    6. Taupo Caldera, North Island, New Zealand
    5. Toba Caldera, North Sumatra, Indonesia
    4. Valles Caldera, northern New Mexico, United States of America
    3. Campi Flegrei Caldera, Naples, Italy
    2. Long Valley Caldera, California, United States of America
    1. Yellowstone Caldera, Wyoming, United States of America
The music -- called "Fearless" -- was composed by Reaktor Productions.
Many thanks for watching (and listening)!

Nothing to be worried about...Yellowstone 2nd eruption is said to be worse than the 1st which is said to be the worst ever but some scientists say that The first eruption pushed the plates a bit under a chamber which means if it erupted only some other volcanoes would erupt and that's about it

So for those curious on the current activity on all of these.
Aira Caldera: Still very much active with emissions coming from it's vents pretty frequently.
Lake Taupo: Light fumarolic activity with Hot Springs.
Lake Toba: Situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire which has massive seismic activity and neighbouring Mount Sinabung has been active for almost 4 years now.
Long Valley Caldera: Last erupted 740,000 years ago, seismic activity has been increasing in recent weeks.
Campi Flegrei: In 2016 activity had increased to the extent an eruption was feared. Seismic activity remains frequent.
Valles Caldera: Fumarolic activity with hot springs.
Yellowstone National Park: Frequent seismic activity backed by Hydrothermal explosions.
    So... yeah.

      I will add one
La Garita: Last erupted 74,000 years ago which produced 5000 cubic kilometer of ash while
Yellowstone produced 2500 cubic kilometer of ash and Toba produced 2800 cubic kilometer of ash

Interesting list, quite difficult to find elsewhere. Taupo, Toba and Yellowstone are probably the really significant ones here; they are the ones that have previously erupted at VEI 8. In fact Yellowstone is probably the smallest and least active of the three, although most closely monitored.
The other 4 on the list are probably capable only of VEI 7 (even Long Valley), not technically a supereruption, although pretty devastating (eg. Tambora in 1815). If you're including some of the larger VEI 7s, you could probably add Mt Aso in Japan to the list, where the central volcano in the massive caldera burped (ie erupted) only last year.

Yup it would but it would wipe out humanity with it unfortunately but maybe that isn't such a bad thing anymore because it would be karma for abusing and destroying are planet and the species that lived on it many times over wether in the ocean or land no one gave us the right to do what we have done and got away with but now that's changing with all the catastrophic things coming which unfortunately are alot sooner than we think folks.
I mean really think about it no one saw a world pandemic coming that shutdown everything in a blink of an eye like NewYork and Las Vegas turned into ghost towns and city's unlike we ever thought possible in the 21st century like it did but that was nothing compared to the catastrophic consequences coming that can render are way of life extinct on a catastrophic scale we're definitely not prepared for not even close.
Perfect example like running out of freshwater and Oceans swallowing continents and releasing the most deadly and explosive gases that will shock the world on level never thought possible specially in are future and are time for this running out fast and once it goes there's no going back to the normal ever again and with climate on hyperdrive the way it is that's making MtEverest Melt that's making oceans like battery acid which is now killing off our fishing way of life forever not to mention the worst oil leak disaster in gulf of Mexicos history and the BP coverup after it only adds to my explanation of why we humans are so messy and destructive and leave deadspots now where there was once a thriving ego system now a dead bleached or poisonous waistland everywhere are industrial overdrive runoff is changing everything much much more than are ego systems and food chain can handle which is also causing new deserts forming from drought all over the planet where they weren't supposed to be because the way we are now and pushing most species to extinction 🦤 faster than anytime in human history .
So yeah full circle like you said specially when we stupid humans think we're invincible and can keep doing whatever we want to mother earth 🌎 and taking and poisoning the air and water and killing off whatever we choose without reprecusions is absolutely hilarious if you ask me.Because what goes around comes around eventually specially with earth and the 2011 and 2004 tsunami showed on a smaller scale compared to this how weak and pathetic are human technology and toys are truly are.
Now imagine this it's game over on extinction level event scale 🦤 that we don't have control over like we think we do in are fairytale hollowood movies where it always comes out good for us in the end and everything is back to normal abracadabra🪄 only the most terrible and scary realistic movie of all time threads from 1983 showing what really happens after a Nuclear Holocaust caused by Humans.
Which in a thing called reality which lot of us have a hard time with nowadays with the conspiracy theory internet raging catastrophically on are media now unfortunately so it's much harder to blur the lines sometimes in this day in age unfortunately but even so everybody for once in there short life span on earth needs to watch once in there life 100%
To finally see how easy it is to cause a extinction level event just like this and are slow death spiral like climate change on hyperdrive ⏩ and warming are oceans way to fast that will end catastrophically but one thing hollywood got right with no happy ending but the end of it all on making by far the worst horror movie that your head can even imagine which is just like this toba extinction event minus the radiation waste land on top of it and never be able to reproduce again which is the end of the human experiment on earth forever

In an Idaho hot spring a mans dogs boiled to death and the man himself suffered third degree burns after trying to save them, the magma chamber of Yellowstone runs under this area (pretty sure this was today) and the temperature is usually perfect for bathing, some people are saying for the water to be that damaging it must have had sulphuric acid in it... from the gasses rising up.

    • @jmitterii2
      @jmitterii2 8 років тому +6

+CrazyTuco1 It's within a range, its no "overdue" for anything.
Last caldera collapses eruption 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and the last one 640,000 years ago.
      2.1 mil - 1.3 million = 800,000 years difference.
      1.3 - .640 = 660 thousand years difference.
So we either have another 20,000 years to go, or about 200,000 years based on the last 3 caldera events.
Over the larger cycle of the Yellowstone hot spot,
based on movement 16 million years it was over Nevada Idaho boarder, moving to present day, in between are lulls ranging from 1.1 million years to 2.2 million years where there aren't any caldera events.
Fact, we know it will likely happen again, it's hard to say when. based on prior cycles it could be anytime now (just to be safe) but statistically speaking it's more likely 20,000 years to as far off in time as 2.2 million years from now.
It's more likely that individual volcanoes could become active, but it not be a caldera event, there's lots of geologic activity around the entire area that shows this, like Craters of the Moon with most recent eruptions 2,100 years ago.

In the last night of the camp, a vent very close to the camp site let out a huge cloud of steam that went over the site and in the morning it smelled like sulphur.

That erupted cause the unstable rock led to the bulge to be exposed a d therefore erupt. Its not impossible though.

Doing a tour with a tourist group through Naples in 2005, the young guide kept on pointing out all the small vents in the town in streets and underneath structures, were being closed off and sealed. She seemed pleased.
I looked at her with concern and said, "I wouldn't want to live here, 😲 by blocking off these small vents that the caldera uses to release some of the pressure, eventually the place is going to blow. 😱" She stopped and looked at me, and was taken aback. "I never thought of it like that!", she said. I don't think she lives there anymore.🤷
Thanks for the confirmation when you said the ground is being raised a few centimetres monthly by the caldera activity.👍 Not that I wanted to be correct in my assumption because many people will be badly affected.😟

these are SUPER volcanoes they're talking about. Krakatau & Tambora are NOT supervolcanoes. They may have been big blasts but they were nothing like the never-seen-by "modern" humans since the last SV eruption happened 50,000-75,000 years ago. SVs are not volcanoes like the ones we know today, i.e., in cone or dome-shaped mountains. They came out of the ground, like the Yellowstone one, which has slowly (Geologically) moved over the past million(s) (of) years due to the North American tectonic plate which is (still) moving in a southwesterly direction. The "hot spot" that is Yellowstone has moved over time from Northern CA through Oregon, southern Idaho, and eventually to where it is for now, Yellowstone.

Nature can be affected by human minds. If not, why have NASA. Why have cars. Why have the wheel? Why have farming? One possible solution would be further venting whereby you release gasses or magma overtime. The key would be to do it in a safe way as to reduce the pressure build-up.

    • @Durri01
      @Durri01 8 років тому +2

You can't just open the earth's crust somewhere. If you start digging, the crust gets weaker and weaker the deeper you go. At some point, it wont be stable anymore and you got yourself a manmade supervolcano. The pressure underneath such massive spots is always very high, so even a tiny hole could be enough to set the whole thing off.

Also, the combined magma chambers of Yellowstone give it the possibility of an eruption larger than anything we currently know of, which hasn't happened before. Toba ejected 2800km3 of magma whereas the largest yellowstone eruption was around 5600km3 (latest info. This used to be estimated to be only 1000 km3. Boy were they off :) )

the scope of Yellowstone is much bigger than anyone even imagined- if you look at a geographic map of the United States of America, you will notice that the entire Western United States resembles a flattened volcano with Yellowstone as the Caldera- and the Cascade volcanoes, the California volcanoes, the volcano in New Mexico, and any forward going east, are nothing but mere cinder cones to the Yellowstone volcano that in the past I believe formed the entire Western United States- and the flows created British Columbia, Alaska and Mexico- and people arguing the point couldn't understand that it was possible the poles flipped several times during the eruptions, causing the flow to go south creating Mexico, and then North, creating British Columbia and Alaska- just because the poles were flipped- at least this is what I suspect happened.....

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing that 3 of the 7, including the biggest one are in the Western United States where I live. We’re toast!

    Great informative video!
But many people are overreacting saying "Nooo we all are doomed now" but it's very unlikeley that this volcano will erupt in another 150 years, so we will be fine but we gotta think of our next generations

Jean Taylor I’m not a scientist or anything but I’m sure “peace” doesn’t mean you trying to sleep while you hear hundreds of screams from neighbouring homes, the earth itself shaking and your bed jumping up and down while your hit with an incredibly intense smell of smoke and ash that will turn you into stone if you inhale it...

Maybe a asteroid triggered a super volcano which could have triggered much other disasters.Or maybe a volcano powerful enough to split apart the island happend.idk

I had read in science articles that Yellowstone is the only supervolcano that the magma is still hot enough for it to become active again.
