Honestly… this anime is very grey in terms of morals. Which is how the real world actually is. There was never right or wrong in the world of Eldians vs Marleyans. It was either us or them. If Eren hadn’t done anything then Zeke, his half brother, would’ve caused Eldians, Eren’s people, to go extinct. If Eren hadn’t done anything then the Eldians would’ve continued to be turned into monsters, used as war machines, for literally no fucking reason. Until they all died out after Zeke put his euthanasia plan to work.
It makes so much sense that finally, after years of this bullshit, someone would finally be fed up enough to put an end to all of it. I don’t think Eren is evil. He isn’t good, either. I think he’s just tired.
I’m honestly so sick of people comparing him to Hitler though. His reason for genocide isn’t even remotely in the same comparison category. Not saying it’s right, Eren committing mass genocide… but it isn’t necessarily wrong either. It’s a grey area. Us or them. You or me. My people or your people. That’s how the world is. Isayama captured it perfectly.

@@Yo-dz2ss people talk big about things they have no real knowledge about. In the terms of it being fictional, they can sit there and whine about how evil they think Eren is. But for the very few who actually watch the story unfold after having experience from the real world (trauma, loss, heartbreak, learning how the world ACTUALLY is) then they wouldn’t be singing the same tune. Most people are followers. They’ll chirp and repeat whatever the current status quo is. It’s just sad that they’ve missed the true meaning of this story and Eren’s character. I truly believe if this story was actually real and we lived in that same shitty world, any of us would do the exact same thing Eren did if we had the power and ability to.

This comment got a LITTLE deep but I got time right now.. don't mind me.
This quote hits dif. He finally said that this view was freedom. to him freedom was the world he had imagined as a kid when Armin showed him his book. When Eren realized it's not like that, he was disappointed (he said so to Ramzi) and began rumbling, to imitate the content of armins book. that is also why Armin said it's his fault Eren did it and will have to go to hell with eren.
Something else I want to add to this because I read someones conclusion recently and also watched a video about Eren's true nature "This video will change how you see Eren" by invaderzz : Eren was sort of free since the beginning. He was free in seeking for freedom. He rumbled because he was free to do so which was pure freedom to him. Eren has been born evil.
Proof for instance are Zeke and Eren while looking at Grisha's memories:
Zeke: "What were you planning to do with the Founding Powers?"
Eren: "I am who I have always been (shows kid eren) from the moment I was born (shows kid eren during the mikasa kidnapping incident). You may have thought we were the same, but you're wrong (shows corpses of Eren's victims). My dad didn't make me like that (shows Grisha who is shocked at the sight and asked Eren if he has an idea what he has done. Eren easily says he just got rid of animals that look like people). I've been this way since birth."
Zeke's character serves to build an understanding of evilness in people by having this parallel between his and Eren's evilness. Like Eren said, while he has been like this since birth, Zeke has turned evil because of his enviroment as a kid, because his dad made him like that. So it's circumstancial for Zeke while it isn't for Eren.

Honestly, it's insane that the entire show just ties into this one theme of pure hopelessness. All Grisha wanted was peace and to live a normal life. He basically did it twice, but both times he gave up what he had and fought for his loved ones.
In the end he was pushed far beyond even his own limits, all for Eren, so that Eren, too, could escape the walls and try to live a normal life. We all kind of feel bad for how much pain was given to Grisha, since pain is essentially the only motivator in this show, but he was actually really strong, just not insane like Eren. Grisha died like this. Grisha died knowing his whole life was one mistake after the other, that he never made up for them, that his oldest son was at the mercy of his youngest son, who was going to succeed on his hate-filled crusade to destroy the world, all because of the cycle that he started. He fought because his sister was torn up by rabid dogs, and it ended in the world being torn up by the rabid dog that is his son.

@@lidcall0909 Eren didn't speak to his past self. He says when he kissed Historia's hand he saw his own memories of the future in his dad's memories of the Reiss assassination. So season 4 Eren, once he unlocked the Founding Titan via Zeke, was sending his memories of the future back in time to Grisha, and season 3 Eren upon kissing Historia's hand was receiving Grisha's memories from the past (the normal Titan shifter way) which included the memories season 4 Eren was giving him, thus giving season 3 Eren the future memories to pass on to Grisha in season 4. It's a bootstrap paradox. A causal loop.
If you really analyze the scene, it seems like Eren is communicating with Grisha by basically giving Grisha a "stream" of his current live memories, which allows for two-way communication because Eren can see Grisha's responses via the Founding Titan's access to memory. If you notice, every time Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is behind Grisha looking at Zeke. So if this "stream" of memories includes Eren's vision, Grisha may be effectively seeing what Eren sees.

It's one of my favorite parts of going to anime conventions!
Now that the AoT series is over, I am 100% certain you have a huge change of winning if you submit this AMC. It's genuinely so heartbreaking and beautiful. What this story does so well to tell us is that the world has never been good or cruel. It has never been anything other than this empty desert, this immense sea, this dark forest, devoid of meaning and of all reason. What this story teaches us is to make this empty world the terrain of our pleasures and our actions, our emotions and our convictions.
In the end, why did all this happen? Is it the fault of the world? Is it the world that is cruel, lawless? No, it's not the world. It is humanity. This evolved animal species that has this terrible curse of being beyond even conscious, it is aware of its own consciousness. Such a stage of cerebral evolution that leads him to ask existential questions about insignificant things, yet so important, since they build all the reality we know. Humans fight, humans hate each other, humans love each other. We are very different from the rest of the animal kingdom because unlike other animals, we ask ourselves questions. Above all.
Human beings are different from Animals because they don't just live in their world, they transform it, they shape it in their own way to give them a reason to exist. That's what we're told in Attack on Titan. To fight, because humans are cruel to themselves. Forgive, because the human is good with himself. If the Titans are only humans transformed by other humans, it is because the author is aware that Man is solely responsible for his own peril and his own problems. Never has the world been cruel, good or compassionate, because life has no time. It is Man who kills, it is Man who builds and it is Man who discovers. We are what the world will be, because we are the only ones with the gift and the curse of making the world what we want. And that's the beauty of SNK.

So much suffering was caused just to achieve Eren's idealized image of 'freedom' which never lasts. At the end of the day power a game of tug-of-war, it will eventually be taken back by those wanting to oppress and conquer until the next Eren has had enough, that's just the way of the world. It makes you wonder if the freedom Eren fought for was really worth it since the freedom he fought for was taken from others who may not have hated Eldians.
For Grisha, the price was far too great, being free at the cost of massacring families is too far. But he realized after he already gave away his soul and empowered the man to cause global genocide in the future. He himself didn't know if he believed in it the cause anymore; questioning _EREN_ (not himself) if killing the Reiss family was even necessary, if that was what he really wanted, if it will actually lead to Eldia being liberated.
