- Attention around the globe is turning to Qatar as it prepares to host the first football World Cup to be held in the Middle East.
More than a million fans from across the world are expected in Qatar. But organisers have faced accusations of breaches of human rights since Qatar was first announced as the host country 12 years ago.
Is that criticism justified?
The CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Nasser al-Khater, talks to Al Jazeera.

There's no proof on that. It's just fake western propaganda bec they are envious that a Muslim and middle eastern country is hosting it. Stop believing everything u read. There's no backings nor proofs to it.
Qatar state media: is criticism against Qatar world cup justified?
Qatar officials: of course not
Qatar: thank you 🤣
Haha exactlly 😆 😆
@UA-cam Censorship the criticism has been here since 2014 when Qatar and Russia bribed Sepp Blatter and Fifa so they could host the 2018 and 2022 world cups. So maybe you've had your eyes and ears closed, it didnt start now 😆
And it's not about imposing western views on Qatar, it's about that slavery is wrong and 6500 people have died building the arenas!
If you think it's ok to to kill people over soccer arenas then i understand that you think we try to impose a western view. If that is the case i'm proud to impose my views on to you!
@UA-cam Censorship and I see that you have 144 commentaries on this channel, are you perhaps state owned? 😆 🤣 😆 🤣 😆 🤣

It's so disappointing everytime they do anything on their masters
Any country which violates workers' rights should be criticized but let's be honest, are the conditions any better for these workers at home? Many commenters here wouldn't bat an eye at their governments for similar or worse treatment of their people in their own countries (sadly)
They wanted a better working condition that's why they went there.
Numbers don't lie... Same constructions even in the counties they come from .. have far less death as compared to this tragedy
Sure conditions are bad at home but they can quit their job and move around the country
Hmmm Al Jazeera and Qatari officials, 😂😂
that's how dictatoriship works in use hits loudspeakers to bring it message
Ofcourse human rights MUST come first. But if we had applied same criteria of Human rights on all countries that hosted world cup , we would have seen rarely world cup. Most countries that hosted W.cup before Qatar either , prison ppl for political reasons, not safety, mafia, dektatorship, killed civilians, commited massacres, invaded other countries , violate human rights, etc...Qatar says they made progress steps towards Human rights and FIFA witnessed this .. The western countries don't want to see any progress in middle east. US will host next W.cup, and ooooohhh don't let me talk how US violated Human rights in the world in the last 100 years and still violate it until today. Go Qatar Go
exactly! god forbids we should look at USA human rights record...More and More human rights are used by western countries to vilify the global south and who ever else wants to have their own life
If it's about human rights, France and the UK should be banned for life; The human rights record of their empires were not so great.
I'd love to see progress in the middle east but as long as these countries don't figure out that religion has no part in governing a country and that you can't force the believe in an imaginary divine being upon people, it is impossible.

Criticism is just a part of life, the entire world will provide criticism for any event that takes place no matter where it is. A large majority of the criticism towards Qatar has been baseless and has no actual evidence behind it, which, as an opinion, is wrong. Qatar is developing continuously as a country and many efforts have been placed in this tournament, be it from from the government or those employed within the tournament, give them some credit for what has been achieved. Everything is about learning, they are continuously doing so and addressing valid matters - change does not and will not happen over night. Show them support, not continuous negativity.
We respect Qatar for this enormous will & might to host COUP MUNDIAL2022
Every success starts with a few right & wrong steps and Qatar should not be vilified for a few mistakes. Everything we do in life is all trial and error and there after success
You are headed there. Bravo Qatar
My son will be there to watch and witness the 2022 World Cup.
Tell that to the thousands of workers that have died and have been abused. Disgusting. The world Cup should have never been given to a country that has human rights issues and that stil didn't figure out that religion has no part to play in the governing a country.

The West should not impose their will on other people’s culture. Let us respect our diversity as the peoples of the world and behave with dignity at all times
How about Qatar respects diversity? If you want to organise a tournament that will be visited by diverse fans from all over the world, you need to be welcoming to all of them. And using semi-slave labour isn't something cultural that is to be respected, it is an abhorrent abuse of other human beings, and if this is culturaly important to Qatari's then that's their problem, and it's absolutely our right to call them out for their barbarism.
