    Great video! This is probably the best 8 on the market. I like that it’s still as versatile as the 6&7 string models. Piezo on an 8! Such an incredible slate to work with and express and stretch your musical boundaries. Thanks for doing this!

      @@EricMorettin I just got an early Christmas present, my wife bought me the Majesty 7 spice melange (#43 of 60)…. $6k! It plays and sounds amazing. I have a lot of Jems and a universe, they play great but the EB’s have something special…. I wouldn’t have spent that much on myself. Definitely get what you pay for.

    While I covet an actual EBMM Majesty in general, I find it INCREDIBLE that an 8-string guitar - where using a 0.080" string for the low F# string is commonplace and thicker if you are going to tune down more - would have tuners that don't take a heavy gauge string. These are Schaller tuners - which are not cheap - and they couldn't drill them out at EBMM before installing or get Schaller to make them custom for such an expensive guitar? The spec sheet says they come with 0.074" for the low string, but everything I can find shows they barely take a 0.056". Maybe the taper on the 74 works with that tuner but then you are kind of stuck using EB strings - which I don't care for.
    The only locking tuners I know that come stock with a large diameter tuner is Tone Ninja (0.086") and Hipshot will make one for you as a custom order that will take up to a 0.090" string.

    My man, it would be sick if you could go more in-depth on the action of an 8 string, more specifically the height for all the strings in measurement and why they are set up that way. Do you set the F# and B string as the same height for the first 6 strings?

    • @EricMorettin
      @EricMorettin  8 місяців тому

      I can do that once I get a brand new 8 string in for a setup, but I can assume it's to avoid any fret buzz for any fret issues with big strings.

    Just can’t decide between the 6 or the 8. I need an 8 string for my collection and love the /10 limited edition Majesty 8’s…but the more I learn about Majesty’s the more I see them as superior 6 stringers. I think given the versatility of the guitar overall it would behoove itself to be a 6 string, if I can only have 1. 6 string purple nebula is where I’m landing but 8 string crystal amethyst also in consideration. What do you think?

    • @EricMorettin
      @EricMorettin  11 місяців тому

      If you want an 8 string with all of the options that comes on this guitar, then get this one. Piezo is super sweet, but it can be a hit or miss for players. If your budget allows for it then do it!

    • @zz-.-

      @@EricMorettin good point re piezo I honestly would have zero use for that on 8 string but plenty on 6, didn’t think about that! The more I see the 6 the more I can see it as something I’d be excited to play more regularly. Just got my first 7 and while I love the lower string and want an 8, I still prefer noodling and jamming on a 6 that compels me so I find myself reaching for PRS/Fender/etc 6string more often than not. Maybe I’ll get a Harley Benton 8 or Ibanez or something simpler to start with before going big to see if I even enjoy it. Or maybe I’ll score a deal from EBMM on a limited 6 and 8 together 😈

    It's been said before but I'll say it again, the price seems a bit ridiculous for a production guitar that just really doesn't seem all that special... I guess if you're looking for an 8 string with a piezo then that's pretty cool, but I would imagine for the price (over 4 grand) you could have a custom 8 string built to your liking, piezo and all.
    As far as the tone in general goes... Not just from this video but in general, what I have heard is very average. Speaking on mostly the low, heavy rhythm tones (the lows sound extremely scratchy to be honest). It may just be my personal taste, but it leaves a lot to be desired and could likely be matched by an extremely affordable 8 string, any brand.
    Then lets talk about the hardware/materials...
    I did see you addressed the tuners in a previous comment, but I must say that also seems pretty laughable... I can't imagine spending $4k on a guitar then taking a drill to it because it can't fit a string gauge that's pretty common for most 8 string guitars. Regardless of the company that built the tuners or Petrucci's choice in the matter, it seems like it must have been more of an oversight or a choice made to save a few bucks/the hassle than anything, because I don't really know that there would be a downside to having a tuner that would accommodate that gauge?
    I do also agree with your point about the screw choices for setting up the intonation, which almost supports the idea that the tuner choice was sort of cutting corners to avoid hassle/cost.. Which just seems unacceptable at this price!
    I have another thought on the wood/finish. I looked into it a little and see the body is described as "maple capped," which makes me think my suspicion that the flamed maple bit is just a cut-out is correct. I do actually dig the look, but I'm the kind of person who would like the entire body to show the top wood... And at 4k it better be a gorgeous top wood too. (Again, it seems like you're paying an extremely premium price for less material).
    Then we get to the fretboard.. Ebony with "Atlante" inlays. Don't get me wrong, ebony is nice, but very standard... And... Atlante? Which I had never heard of, but appears to be a polyester material that's essentially an imitation mother of pearl... (on a 4K guitar? yikes...)
    All that being said, this was a very good video - it was good to get a closer look at this guitar. I'd venture to say there probably won't be too many in-depth looks at the instrument considering the price.
    Additionally, I have not held and played one of these, so that may change my opinion of course. However unless I got a chance to try one out or received one for free, I don't see myself ever trying one as I'd likely go with a custom build with much better specs and look at this price.
    I really struggle to see the value in this guitar, and can only conclude that the huge price tag comes from the fact that it's American-made and a signature model.

    • @EricMorettin
      @EricMorettin  Рік тому +1

      Great points here. At the end of the day there's no right or wrong way to spend your money on a guitar, as it's all subjective. Piezo systems can be pricey on customs which will probably increase their prices more than this. If you need a piezo then cool, but if not then I'm sure there are other options in the fanned fret ERG market, especially with 25.5" - 27" scales, and that have other features that are more so up your alley. If you want a custom build you'll have to wait, or you can get a production guitar off the shelf. Again, it's all down to whatever fits your needs!

    The top wood is kind of meh for me, but the real dealbreaker for me is the gloss neck. Can't stand 'em. I mean, they're good enough for JP, but all the same I have a tung oil neck on my Kiesel and it's light years better than any gloss finish. Ernie Ball should at least have gone with a satin finish.

      @EricMorettin  Рік тому

      It's JP's signature guitar at the end of the day, as it's made for him. He's also the one signing off on it in the end before it hits guitar stores. You might like the full maple top one more than this though.

      Tuners are made by Schaller so that's on them. Would be nice if EBMM requested the 8th string tuner be routed for an 80 gauge, but JP makes that call since it's his signature guitar.

      Are you on something bro? When has the labor for an American built instrument ever cost 200 dollars when the amount of man hours it takes is way more than that to finish and work on.... Lol I'm sure they make a good amount on that guitar but not 4000%+ markup LOL I'd say it costs about 1000 bucks on their end overall at flat cost. But that's not gonna make you anything let alone pay for labor, since they don't sell THAT fast
