@@TalesOfNerdiaChris if you are already playing other games I’d recommend this over Cris Tales since that game is super long Death’s Door is about 10-12 hours so you can easily add this to your rotation
@@TalesOfNerdiaChris Just gonna tag into the recommendations too for Death's Door. I've played Cris Tales a bit, and while it looks great there feels like some much needed smoothing over is needed early on. It's very much a 'Paper Mario' RPG with all the timing-based commands, but especially for enemies it is... almost mandatory to mitigate damage--especially early on. They throw you into several fights without healing items, and then kick you out with barely anything into the game proper and random battles happen... rather frequently. It's also very much a controller-mandatory game as you'll have to rely on the controller vibration to hit the 'perfect' commands rather than visual cues as they can all be muddy at times. It's manageable, but... frustrating. Getting nailed with attacks that deal 40+ damage to characters with maybe 100-120hp, and with no way to 'rest' or recover HP aside from a single healing item they gave just before, it feels... needlessly punishing. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if leveling healed you up to full, but... Yeah. Hard to recommend over Death's Door, and personally there's other great games in that same style of RPG I'd definitely push, especially with the price point Cris Tales is asking for. Nothing a simple patch/adjustment couldn't fix though, and if they do I would definitely recommend it. But... Currently? I've set it aside. Quietus came out, which is a beautiful Metroidvania game. And Bug Fables is still an immensely satisfying 'Paper-Mario' styled RPG that I might run through again, and would definitely recommend if that is something you're wanting. It nails everything right off the bat, and even having played it on the optional 'hard mode' from the start on the first run, it's challenging but fair.
I would personally like the game less if there was a map. Most of the areas are easy enough to memorize, and the only complex area is rewarding in the sense of seeing something off screen and being like "how do I get there?" And finding Your way. This game is easily my favorite of the year.
Looks very promising. I like that it's around 8 hours to beat. Too many games nowadays are bloated with unneeded filler and pointless mechanics. This looks like a game that'll be fun to replay.
Any idea if this game's goin' to be released on the PS4 or the Switch? The game looks amazing and I'd definitely like to play it..great review and content coverage

I am seeing a lot of comments about how this would be perfect for the switch, and therein lies the reason why the steam deck is going to be a banging sucess, games like these wont be held back by the subpar storage options

I’m beginning to chafe more and more at the Game Critic use of the term “story”. Any series of events with a beginning and ending is a story. I once heard it said that what Game Critics refer to as “story” is really “explaining”. A game only gets credit for “story” when a character appears to explain to the player exactly what’s happening and exactly how the player should feel about it. That’s kind of crummy.
@@Ayoul wish modern pixel games looked like the “blended crt” look that everyone saw back in the 80/90s. not a big fan of the super sharp non blended pixel art of today.
@@danoschwab9937 To me it didn't sound like all praise. It sounded like everything was alright. All in all, still a positive review no doubt, but I was also surprised it was an 8.5. Edit: Which is funny because I expected the game to review that well.
First time I heard this man's voice I believe was for Bioshock back on gametrailers in like 2007. Still the best there is. Never change 👍
Combat system seems very Hyper Light Drifter, which I'm all about.
Yeah that ammo recharge system is the exact same. No complaints tho, HLD rules!

I always get such a complete picture of a game from Brad’s reviews. Best in the biz, baby
