@john hanks he was always the best player in the world with exception for his first season. He still won the best rookie that year. He had just came out of the JWC setting the still standing point record of 31 points in 7 games. He was the best always and is the GOAT of ice hockey. He should be thankful to Orr, Howie, Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Kent Nilsson, Hakan Loob and Börje Salming, for showing what is possible, but he took it beyond what anybody had done by becoming so complete including his top level defense game both in box play and in 1 on 1. He is the best passer of all time with all the types of sick passes and by standing 4th of all time in assists per game. You can't compare the assist average between Gretzky, Lemieux and those that played in a time when it was easy to score, with Forsbergs sick numbers when it was the hardest time to score. He is also the best 2-way player ever and the player that had the best skating balance ever and were almost impossible to run over or take the puck from. Gretzky and Lemieux never cared to develop their game into playing defense. They never proved if they complete players and theirfor how can one even consider them in the discussion about who is the GOAT? Explain that to me. Crosby has proved that he is kind of complete too. So it would be easier to throw him into the evaluation. He is almost as good as Forsberg. Datsyuk is the best player ever far as defensive skills and deeking. Slightly better than Forsberg in those categories, but as a whole he is far behind. He didn't have the same winning mentality nor physical play to his advantage.
If I could choose the top lines of my dream team it would go as follows..
      Top line
      LW Ovi
      C Forsberg
      RW Lemieux
      D Orr
      D Lidstrom
      Second line
      LW Jagr
      C Crosby
      RW Datsyuk
      D Howie
      D Erik Karlsson
      Now it gets harder..
      Third line
      LW Selanne
      C Messier or Sundin
      RW Kent Nilsson
      D R. Bourque
      D Borje Salming
      4th.. impossible.

    • @LorentzHallMusic
      @LorentzHallMusic 3 роки тому

@john hanks Thanks. Yeah, I think that my dreamful first line would win most games against my second and third line... Or what line would you put together to win against my first line?
I'm not saying that Gretzky wasn't phenomenal, he was. His vision of the ice was unseen before him. His passes were the greatest in history - until Forsberg started playing in the NHL. Have you seen all of Forsbergs NFL passes over 3-4 guys landing flat, perfectly on the blade of his teammates sticks? Forsberg learned a lot by watching Gretzky, the way Gretzky circled high up by the blue line to wait for his teammate to position themselves for example, and he says it himself in an early interview about Gretzky, But he improved all aspects of the game. I would say that he has been the most influential player for the NHL since maybe Gretzky or maybe even Orr.. I don't know, but I didn't see Lemieux or Jagr change the whole focus on what is important to know amongst the NHL players like Forsberg did.

@john hanks If you watch interviews with Sakic about playing with Forsberg, he always says how Foppa took over games and he reaped the benefits from it.

Pure skill...ha ha ha...his puckhandling, balance, passing, wraparounds they are easy at mcdavid-level and above. Why do always kids think their star at the time is superior?? Mcdavid is clearly faster with a greater shot. Peter stronger, better in puck-battles, physical and great both offensive and defensive. Just stop the BS.

The obvious GOAT of ice hockey.
The most complete ever. Biggest winning mentality ever. Best passer ever. Best 2-way player ever. Second best defensive skills ever as a forward next to Datsyuk. Improved the game of ice hockey by the way he attacked the blue line, the way he invented the Forsberg offensive tackle, how he always managed to stay on his skates and one the 1 on 1 or the 1 on 4 players.. He was like water captured in the palm of your hand.. he trickled through your fingers.. impossible to control. Honestly, if Gretzky wouldn't have had Ulf Samuelsson and those protectors on his teams, he would have gotten ran over over and over again. He was GREAT but much like Datsyuk he was a feather weight and would have been demolished without protection. At least Mario Lemieux defended himself. Lemieux had the body for ice hockey, unlike Gretzky and Datsyuk. Crosby also look pretty weak to me, but a great player.
    Anyway.

They tried to hit Gretzky, they just couldn't. Gretzky was one of the best if not the best at avoiding hits. Those rumors that he was untouchable and under protection started because he was that good at not getting hit.

@@itsapplesaucetoaboss8216 no cap. The old legends often talk how hard it was to hit The Great One. He did get nailed a couple of times and guess what? Nothing happened. Ofc if someone really tried to hurt Gretz he would have to deal with McSorley/Semenko, but almost every star player had similar protection.
