In Cypher 3 ,a single track which was under the BTS album Dark and wild released in 2014 , Suga mentioned on his verse in Cypher 3 , "Agust D is my 2nd name ".He is already giving a hint here that he is going to use a 2nd name in doing a solo project.
In 2016 when he debut his first solo mixtape AGUST D.
This is the beginning and the birth of Suga's alter ego.
From then he used Agust D
(Suga spelled backward abd DT initial from his birth place Daego Town) whenever he do a solo project of his .Many critics viewed Agust D as a major departure from his different image as a me.ber of BTS with a hardcore rap style emphasizing his underground influences.
Suga in Agust D , unfiltered expressed his anger to the haters who looked down him and His brothers in BTS
With deep intensed and hardcore dissing those people who underestimated him /them just because they just came from a small and bankrupt company the time.
I think the main reason why Suga use an alias name Agust D when he is doing a solo project because mostly his songs is kind dark and very hard hitter particularly when dissing hater people or him being honest and telling what kind of person he is , things that he'd been through in in life ,his past
( he is a very honest artist and very straightforward, one of many good qualities that i liked Suga) , lyrically he is raw and doesnt beat around the bush but he is actually stating the fact, so i think he is protecting BTS group by not involving them just in case he'll go down.
( But people love him and look where he at now🥰).
Most people who dont really know him have an impressiin that he is a cold person, but Suga exteriorly might be cold, kind of intimidating man of few words ,but he is actually a very sweet and full of compassion guy.
You have to watch his SUCHWITA show esp the ep 27 of the last episode before he went to military where his guest is his bff El Capxtan who shared his story of how Suga help him and make him shine...
I miss my genius , he is probably making and writing a lot of songs now while in the military service.
When he perform Agust D during his solo concert, i just couldn't believe that i see him in live performance not the teenager Suga but already the adult Suga and boy he is so so good, the speed, the flow and the stage presence phenemenal!! Will never forget tgat experienced ❤️

Yoongi is full of different duality. Even as Agust D, he can be savage, angry, ruthless or emotional, depress, sad, but always real, straighforward, raw with a light of hope. Suga and Yoongi have also their own duality.
Believe it, two of his nicknames in ARMY expressed this: Savage King and Lil Meow Meow...
The song Agust D is an absolute banger. The tongue technology bar is recurring (Cypher 2,3) and one of my fav (cuz I'm a bit naughty)

I think the “savage” vs “meow meow” duality isn’t as surprising/unexpected as it may first seem. The cat is perfect as his representative animal because even the gentlest, cuddliest, “laziest” cats still have sharp claws and teeth that can tear through skin, hide or scales to defend themselves and highly advanced hunting instincts/skills when they want to go after prey and take it down. Their bodies are built to hunt. If they don’t hurt you it’s because they choose not to, not because they can’t. (Suga has expressed this “it’s not that I can’t, it’s that I don’t want to” sentiment in several contexts too).

I only saw his D-Day concerts online last year, but hearing the entire audience screaming “A to the G to U to the STD” at the top of their lungs is awesome!!
I like how you interpreted the line "all ya fried rappers should be thankful for I'm an idol" like he can't really say everything he wants, but I take it more like "If I wasn't an idol, I'd be a rapper (like full time) and then you (rappers) wouldn't have a job, cause I'm the best here"

this is one of my fave Agust D track! it’s a hype song even on video, so this live is 100x more, i just watched this live on the cinema and we all are screaming and sweating so much!. btw, there is a continuation to this which is “give it to me” so underrated imo. to think that this is from his 1st mixtape after debut, the confidence he has coz he knows he worked his butt off and write his own music INSANE! the flows, switch ups the sample of James Brown! amazing! we are so glad they ok the sample coz for the longest time we were waiting for it to be on other streaming sites and not just on SoundClound. and we got it during the release of D-DAY album!

Eight years ago!!! Loved watching him rap this live at his concert, eight years later and in a 2-hour set of rapping, singing, moving around energetically, etc.
As always it was a delight watching you lose your sh!t. I think you forgot to breathe there for a little bit fren 😂 This is why you always brace yourself listening to AgustD by AgustD. this was one of the most fun songs to see him do live. that second verse is legendary and to see him do it in real time was just.....holy crap. the whole crowd chanting that chorus so loud too. i loooove this song!
This song was crazzzzzyyyyyyy live during his D-Day Tour :D Everyone was jamming and rapping along with him, it was insane! LOL I feel like the really fast part towards the end was done even faster during his tour. It's amazing! Can't wait to watch him and all of them as a group again in person

For context, this song was written with a specific “underground rapper” in mind who interviewed him and RM on some podcast at the beginning of BTS’ debut and called them girls for putting on makeup on stage and said his name meant sugar when in fact it means shooting guard (he chose that since that’s his favorite position while playing basketball). You can see part of the “so-called” interview in Taylor’s BTS Guide or somewhere in UA-cam. By the way, that guy ended up in jail and no one has heard his rap. 😏

yes this is savage Suga after he and RM were insulted by a couple of the Underground Hip Hop scene they were both part of. Befree being one those Rapper's and in another track they told BeFree to go back to Hawaii after he tried to apologise to RM and Suga. Befree served a prison sentence when he attacked another Rapper just not long after he insulted RM and Suga.
aaand that's exactly why I was telling you you shouldn't introduce BTS as k-pop because people would expect all k-pop to sound like this and they'd get disappointed right away 😅
The more you react to them the more they'll blow you away by their skills and versatility in all genres. I would like to strongly recommend J-hope's songs "More" and "Arson". They'll also show you a side of his you haven't seen before.

This song gets me way too hype, and it will always be one of my favorite Agust D songs. Dude straight up told his haters to f*@# off cuz they ain't on his level. When you said he was a born rapper, I absolutely agree and he says similar things in the Cyphers. He knows he was born to make music, and he works hard for his craft.

The top tier production he did on this song is as impressive as his rap, all the adlibs in the background. He starts out tied up by the haters and industry who treats him badly but he breaks free. I always take the std thing as him infecting us with his rap. Just a viscous little troll, gosh we love him. His whole “sorry your health is all you have” always cracks me up. The fact he goes even harder/faster live.

Hi Teej! Others already made great points! Love your reactions! I love this rap, maybe it’s bc Suga is my bias. I always qualify that with sayings all the others are my bias wreckers so OT7. He’s hard core and brutally honest on his lyrics, yet vulnerable too. He’s really sweet and caring too as ARMY knows. Esp if you’ve seen In the Soop or Bon Voyage and Suchwita amongst some. Also he’s funny in Run BTs when he wants to be. He mentions he’s not ‘Sugar’ bc as from the Taylor Guide and BTS Hardships, they show other underground rappers telling RM and Suga that they are no longer real rappers since they decided to become idols. They also then say Suga means Sugar wand makes fun of them for wearing makeup. I understand underground hip hop may not wear makeup, but they followed by saying they were girls. So Suga is really dissing them I think on behalf of BTS and himself that they’re better rappers and are idols and he’s no Sugar. IHe really goes after them for all the hate they got and introduces August -D. 💜💜💜🇨🇦Thanks so much!

The introvert description of Suga needs to go! Members have said how cheeky he is, he did his own solo tour, has his own talk show Suchwita mainly to support his brothers and fellow artists. He was on a Korean talk/variety show along with Jimin and Jimin was the shy one, Suga was outgoing. He is sweet and giving and a musical genius. 💜🥢

You can have a not shy introvert. Being an introvert doesnt mean you cannot be social or cheeky. It means that you recharge your energy away from people. You need a ME time. As opposed to extroverts who go to recharge WITH other people. That is all. You can have a funny outgoing introverts just the same as you can have a reserved, shy extrovert.

There is an interview which RM and SUGA were on there was also someother older rappers, I don't know who it was exactly but someone started taking the p#ss out of their names and the fact they were idols wearing make up on stage, well after that AGUST D brought this song out.
