Those are some great old cars. I am curious, are the people veterans or are the cars considered veterans?

The cars that are made in or before 1904 are veteran cars, not the people driving them (though they can be).

Generaly no. The brakes are "not to a modern standard". It was good to have a marshal this year as in previous years I have tried to do it myself a bit.
