I want to cry watching this. It was exactly what I needed. I have wanted to make films for 20 years and after finally leaving my advertising career (my shadow creative career I’d say) I feel impostor syndrome for not going to school for film. I was about to ask you where you learned storytelling but you answered it - “keep making stuff”. Sigh. It sounds so simple and yet, maybe it is. 🙏🏽🙏🏽✨🙏🏽
Awww thank you so much! So grateful it resonated with you so much. Yeah you definitely don’t need to go to film school to be a filmmaker. You just need the passion 💜
Thank you for this. It’s a good reminder how hard and long you have to work to follow your passion. The journey is made of many small steps that lead to big outcomes.
Loved this video!!! This was so inspiring to me as a creator, your journey is such a breath of fresh air & just what I needed to hear at this point in life 💖
Loved this Kyle! Your journey has been incredible to watch, and you tell it so well. I love that you’re exploring more long form videos again too; I think the uniquely mesmerizing aesthetic of your mixed media style and video editing really shines in long form. I find it kind of funny that I never actually got on TikTok, lol, but it’s been beyond inspiring watching your growth as a creator and storyteller over the years. Stoked for what the future has in store! (Also so grateful for the shout out!! ✊🏾)
That means so much to me Nkem! That truly was a game changing moment making that music video with you back in 2020. Grateful for our friendship and collaborations over the years 🙏
What a journey, Kyle. I hope the world starts discovering you more and more, now with longer content here on youtube. And also that more meaningful work comes your way. You deserve the financial compensation for your hard work. Proud of you, man! Also, you've always been on the back of my mind on my own path to be sober. thank you
I am really happy for you. I wish you get the next big thing in your filimmaking journey. I just cannot tell you how much of coincidence this is because I was thinking how things are going to turn out for me if I take this journey because I am at the same at the level where I suck but I know I would improve and I want to improve at the same time i hav to think about my financial backup Thank you for showing a something relatable from your life.
I thought this was going to be more of a tutorial or advice for how someone else could do this vs your story. It might've been better to name the video "How I accidentally became a mixed media filmmaker" instead (yes, I know it won't get as many clicks but it's more honest to potential viewers).
Totally fair criticism! I just thought it would be fun to play with the form. I do have a more traditional tutorial on my page about how I do my mixed media style if you are interested
