- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- Tony Hawk uses the power of Twitter to answer some common questions about skateboarding. Will there ever be another Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? What skateboarding trick was the hardest to learn? Are you ever too old to start skating?
Tony also demonstrates how to set up a new skateboard, how to apply griptape, how to do an ollie, how to boardslide, how to do a 540° McTwist and more.

I don't know why I laughed so hard at this comment.

He seems like the coolest substitute teacher ever
I had a substitute teacher that swore he was friends with Tony Hawk as a kid, and he had autographs to prove it
@@Wertercat we need a name and we need to hit mr. Hawkman on twitter about it.
wertercatt how would autographs prove it?
Scheme GD did I ever say it was impossible? No, all I said was autographs don’t prove anything cause anyone could get an autograph

Tony Hawk is the only skater to make protection look cool
Check out Andy Anderson. He also wears a helmet, though without pads, unlike Tony. He skates for Powell Peralta
probably the main reason he can still skate at age 50
No
yeah if he didn't wear protection I doubt he could walk
Remember kids always wear protection.
He's 50 now, I feel so old..
I remember admiring his tricks as a kid, he was my idol at the time, and he still is..
TheChadest how old are you because the video on your channel makes you seem like your 12 no offense
@@CocoPerk he is 10
You must have watched them 15 years after he made them. I was in Kona when he did a 900. That's old, and I wasn't a kid. Wanna see Kona? Check out ua-cam.com/video/D33vMirtOH4/v-deo.html. It's one of a lot of pros favorite park.
You're nowhere near old. Embrace your midlife youth!
i watched him and mostly played thps since i was 12. I'm 27 now
This guy is so knowledgeable about skate boards you'd think he's Tony Hawk!

So I guess he had to take a year off when he was 40?
I love that his board says "Riley's dad" cause it's such a dad thing to support your, in this case pro skater child, with a banner but at the same time he's freaking Tony Hawk and his own company made the design and board lol
90% sure that's a baker board which is the company Riley skates for.
And Andrew Reynolds is the owner of Baker Boards, Andrew was discovered by Tony and ended making Baker Boards. And Andrew asked Tony if Riley can ride for Baker, Tony said that Riley is the one who can make a decision. And now Riley is on Baker Boards.
Masterchief he had to have 😂
Caesar Salad it’s actually a birdhouse board with the Baker font, I’m sure the baker people won’t mind tho
@@AirCarlos97 Baker and Birdhouse are chill. Most board companies don't really have bad blood tbh.

I've never skateboarded in my life but I really enjoyed this video. He makes the sport seem so accessible.
It is, I mean it hurts and it takes so much practice, but almost anyone can just get a board and start learning tricks.
Skateboarding is so expensive though, that’s why it ain’t that popular. Your choice is to spend all your spare or disposable income to be able to skate or spend all your money on it if you have a low pay job or if you young like 15-21 you’re barely gonna have anything so you spend so long saving or you rich
@@SG-we9gq you can get a semi nice complete for like 80 bucks, it's not cheap, but it definitely won't make you bankrupt.
@@SG-we9gq It really isn't though, for 100 bucks or less, you get a complete and you're set until your board snaps or you quit. Most hobbies cost way more to start.
With a board and internet access, anyone can go pro.
Tony hawk, you’re the fucking man. I played Tony Hawk games all through out my childhood (all American was the best in my opinion) . I learned to skate at a young age because of you and even though I can’t do too many tricks anymore, I use it as transportation every day on campus. One of the things this video didn’t mention is the community behind skateboarding. I remember being a kid and going to the skate park and being offered assistance with tricks and tons of support. There are always bad apples in a bunch, but overall the skate community is unbelievably welcoming and supportive. If I had a kid and they grew up wanting to skate, I’d be thrilled.
Lila Smith The guy inspired a freaking generation, he's a childhood legend. And he's still kicking ass at 49, what a beast.
THUG 1 was the best

I gotta go with THPS2. :)
I can't believe he's 49. That's just completely amazing.
While others might look ridiculous, he just shines...
I remember ten years ago when I ten and I couldn’t believe he was 40. Now I’m 20 and 40 doesn’t quite seem that old but 50 is crazy. He could be a grandpa now. I hope he lives to be 85 or 90, and then when I’m a grandpa I can tell my kids I played his video game when I was their age.
what an awesome dude, a lot of celebs who answer twitters questions are condescending with their answers a lot of the time, but you can tell Tony Hawk really wants to just help people and give his best advice
I know you didn’t ask me but That doctor that played in the Hangover film and Bill Nye is nice but his answers can be condescending sometimes

Tony Hawk with pads and helmets answering internet questions is peak coolness bc he’s Tony Hawk
Its crazy how down to earth and modest this dude is, he talks about these tricks as if he just learned them, when in reality, he didn't just learn half of these tricks, he invented and was the first one ever to land most of them, pretty much every basic trick in any skateboarders arsenal, either vert or street, was invented by either him or Rodney Mullen.
If you've ever called yourself a skater, or just love skating, you owe so much to Rodney and Tony for everything they've done for all of us, they clearly just love skating as much as all of us, they're always open to talk about and explain how they do the tricks they do, theres no secrets, theres just all of us skater buddies sharing tips and tricks and trying to get better or do things no one else has ever thought of or tried, I've always loved the skater community, theres nothing like it, and really, these dudes started it all.
You're a f##king legend Tony, take more credit for what you've done and achieved, you deserve it, for everything you've given to our community.
he didn't invent most of the flip tricks...
He invented almost none of the tricks he talked about in that video.
I think the name your looking for is Rodney Mullen.
not sure how many tricks Tony has actually invented, but he was certainly the first to land quite a few vert tricks on film which is when his reputation blew up
seems like such an awesome and humble dude though, you're right
Can tell he truly loves it still.
I don't even skate but Tony Hawk is a fucking OG Legend.

I remember when the McTwist was the Unicorn of all tricks. Only the top skaters could do them. It's so rad to see Tony still kickin ass in our old age.
They used to slo-mo the McTwist as the ender of a video part, now Jaws does them off of 6' quarter pipes.
darkasthegrave Vinnie Bahn's better than Jaws
I don't know who Vinnie Bahn is, and I don't care. The point is that kids are so good now they can McTwist on shit that was inconceivable a decade ago.
Mctwist are done by ams now. New age killing it
I remember when he first pulled off the 900 and it was the most amazing thing ever. God those were the days. Bob Burnquist was always the guy I rooted for during the X games and what not back in the day. Even had a pair of his airwalks back in HS.

man i wanna learn how to skate now....
DO IT
It all depends on what kind of style you prefer. Do you want a sense of security, but still a sense of recklessness and rebel-ness, go with a scooter; it can do a lot of stuff. You want to follow traditions, and pursue challenges to get incredibly gratified, as well as have fun no matter what the circumstance is, go skateboarding. If you hate going with a specific and distinct form, and have a hard time doing tricks on a scooter or skateboard like me, go with rollerblading. Aggressive Inline skates will help with grinding and doing tricks, but you get the drift. I did skateboarding and scootering for several years each, and I also do ice skating, now, I just bought a pair of aggressive inline's, so I'll have experience with every platform. :)
alphacommando227 rebelness with scooter because everyone would tell you not to because you are a poser you got thar right haha
Hard Working Serf I don't call scooter riders posers
Step 1, Learn to bail safely.

*Tony Hawk* thank you! I wanted to hear you answer questions, but then you took it a step further, and went into instruction mode. This is now an educational video. I love hearing and watching an all-time great passing on knowledge. You rock bro!
Tony Hawk transcends skating.
While I prefer street skating I have to admit that vert riders are the sickest mofos out there. This shit is scary.
I literally have zero interest in skateboarding but still love this video. It was very interesting and Tony is a great speaker and teacher.
Don't skate and have zero desire to start... but this video was extremely entertaining for some reason.. :P

Tony Hawk is such a LEGEND!! Grew up playing pro skater! Great childhood memories
The thing about Tony Hawk is that he doesn't look like a skater and he doesn't dress like one. You'll see him down the street and think he's just some guy but the motherfucker can do a 900
Chris Hero unlike everyone who wears thrasher and shops at Zumiez...
Lol he is literally wearing a bones shirt so idk
I think most people who "Look like skaters" probably don't even skate. There isn't really a universal skater style. Some skaters where skinny jeans and tighter shirts, some have the grunge flannel shirt look, some go the hip hop baggy style and some look like they should be in the locker room.
Hey man ur my favorite indie wrestler
I remember staying up late to watch the X games live (it was on about 3am UK time) and watching Tony land the 900 - so epic!
Legitimately serious comment - you gotta admire how comfortable he is not landing a trick. Bailing off the board and sliding down the pipe in his knee pads isn’t even a “fall” to him
wacpj19 to most of us who learned to skate with pads it is the same. This is the secret that skaters who think pads are lame don’t know: pads let you go big and bail safely. Once you learn that knee slide you are golden. I’ll skate without a helmet although I really shouldn’t but if I’m on vert my pads are on.
This is what happen when 90% of your career involves falling

I love how at 1:20 he realized his skrew up, grabs the board, and throws it on the ground all before he hits the ground
It's always disgusting that a company gets to "own" the rights to someone else's name. Well, name and "pro skater" would have thought Tony Hawk owns that and Activision licences it.
Or how after somebody has been dead long enough, you can ruin their work [novel/film]. I am glad rights is better here in England. Getting rights to anything and actually owning something is hard in the US, it seems.
Beanie Draws not really, he can make tony hawk: the skater and work with ea. No problems
He sold them the rights to his name. He was fully aware of what he was doing before he signed the contract. I'm sure he was paid a small fortune so I don't see any issue with it.
In the beginning of sports video games, companies completely raped the atheletes they hired. It was common they would get a meesly single check and no royalties for sale. Especially no-one recieved royalties, thats where all the money is made. Companies knew they were using them.

The only skaters from Tony hawk 1 that were in the 10th video game were you and Andrew Reynolds... If you do ever have say on another one please bring back the nostalgia with the older skaters, older skate spots, etc. It should be a mix of new and old... TheDawg57 dude haste been famous since the 80’s
50 Now. :) Still doing it.
+Galactic Pancakes I beg to differ. His games made him very famous. And they were all pretty recent.
In the 1980s, Tony Hawk was well known within the skateboarding community. He was one of the biggest skaters of the day and featured in many issues of skateboarding magazines as well as videos and played a small part in the movie Gleaming The Cube. Though he was virtually unknown outside of the skateboarding community. Of course these days, Tony Hawk has become a house hold name.
He’s 50 now
Dude I saw the video of you doing tricks a few months ago never mind this and you are literally still just dumping on people at 49. I can’t even go up flights of steps easily because of injuries related to a report I wrote to help save a few lives or something. It’s supposedly a desk job. I’m like half your age. If these guys don’t make a quality, classic style tony hawk pro skater with solid multiplayer/online they are morons who don’t deserve to have the money to be in business. You damn near made the sport and have a more positive culture factually. No brainer. It’s been too long. Would literally consider buying a new console just for that. Congrats to your success, living legend status that’s been literally decades so far. Very rare. Hope that continues.
It's almost more amazing to see a pro like him fail. The way he salvages a failed trick to come away uninjured is truly impressive.
