  • Tony Hawk uses the power of Twitter to answer some common questions about skateboarding. Will there ever be another Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? What skateboarding trick was the hardest to learn? Are you ever too old to start skating?
    Tony also demonstrates how to set up a new skateboard, how to apply griptape, how to do an ollie, how to boardslide, how to do a 540° McTwist and more.

      Skateboarding is so expensive though, that’s why it ain’t that popular. Your choice is to spend all your spare or disposable income to be able to skate or spend all your money on it if you have a low pay job or if you young like 15-21 you’re barely gonna have anything so you spend so long saving or you rich

    Tony hawk, you’re the fucking man. I played Tony Hawk games all through out my childhood (all American was the best in my opinion) . I learned to skate at a young age because of you and even though I can’t do too many tricks anymore, I use it as transportation every day on campus. One of the things this video didn’t mention is the community behind skateboarding. I remember being a kid and going to the skate park and being offered assistance with tricks and tons of support. There are always bad apples in a bunch, but overall the skate community is unbelievably welcoming and supportive. If I had a kid and they grew up wanting to skate, I’d be thrilled.

    Its crazy how down to earth and modest this dude is, he talks about these tricks as if he just learned them, when in reality, he didn't just learn half of these tricks, he invented and was the first one ever to land most of them, pretty much every basic trick in any skateboarders arsenal, either vert or street, was invented by either him or Rodney Mullen.
    If you've ever called yourself a skater, or just love skating, you owe so much to Rodney and Tony for everything they've done for all of us, they clearly just love skating as much as all of us, they're always open to talk about and explain how they do the tricks they do, theres no secrets, theres just all of us skater buddies sharing tips and tricks and trying to get better or do things no one else has ever thought of or tried, I've always loved the skater community, theres nothing like it, and really, these dudes started it all.
    You're a f##king legend Tony, take more credit for what you've done and achieved, you deserve it, for everything you've given to our community.

      It all depends on what kind of style you prefer. Do you want a sense of security, but still a sense of recklessness and rebel-ness, go with a scooter; it can do a lot of stuff. You want to follow traditions, and pursue challenges to get incredibly gratified, as well as have fun no matter what the circumstance is, go skateboarding. If you hate going with a specific and distinct form, and have a hard time doing tricks on a scooter or skateboard like me, go with rollerblading. Aggressive Inline skates will help with grinding and doing tricks, but you get the drift. I did skateboarding and scootering for several years each, and I also do ice skating, now, I just bought a pair of aggressive inline's, so I'll have experience with every platform. :)

      wacpj19 to most of us who learned to skate with pads it is the same. This is the secret that skaters who think pads are lame don’t know: pads let you go big and bail safely. Once you learn that knee slide you are golden. I’ll skate without a helmet although I really shouldn’t but if I’m on vert my pads are on.

      Spencer There’s footage of him street skating back in the day. I️ was terrified when I️ saw him rolling up to that rail though. “No Tony! Just get Riley to demonstrate, you’re gonna break your hip.”

    It's always disgusting that a company gets to "own" the rights to someone else's name. Well, name and "pro skater" would have thought Tony Hawk owns that and Activision licences it.

    • @TheClassicWorld
      @TheClassicWorld 7 років тому +27

      Or how after somebody has been dead long enough, you can ruin their work [novel/film]. I am glad rights is better here in England. Getting rights to anything and actually owning something is hard in the US, it seems.

      In the beginning of sports video games, companies completely raped the atheletes they hired. It was common they would get a meesly single check and no royalties for sale. Especially no-one recieved royalties, thats where all the money is made. Companies knew they were using them.

    The only skaters from Tony hawk 1 that were in the 10th video game were you and Andrew Reynolds... If you do ever have say on another one please bring back the nostalgia with the older skaters, older skate spots, etc. It should be a mix of new and old... Also maybe MAYBE take some tips from SKATE 1-3 as far as mechanics go.

    I forgot about this guy. Never got into skateboarding but I always respected 2 things about him. He always seems down to earth, kind and polite and 2, he stresses the importance of wearing protective gear. The older I get the more I appreciate these things.

      In the 1980s, Tony Hawk was well known within the skateboarding community. He was one of the biggest skaters of the day and featured in many issues of skateboarding magazines as well as videos and played a small part in the movie Gleaming The Cube. Though he was virtually unknown outside of the skateboarding community. Of course these days, Tony Hawk has become a house hold name.

    Dude I saw the video of you doing tricks a few months ago never mind this and you are literally still just dumping on people at 49. I can’t even go up flights of steps easily because of injuries related to a report I wrote to help save a few lives or something. It’s supposedly a desk job. I’m like half your age. If these guys don’t make a quality, classic style tony hawk pro skater with solid multiplayer/online they are morons who don’t deserve to have the money to be in business. You damn near made the sport and have a more positive culture factually. No brainer. It’s been too long. Would literally consider buying a new console just for that. Congrats to your success, living legend status that’s been literally decades so far. Very rare. Hope that continues.
