- Trident maples are my favourite deciduous trees for bonsai. Autumn is great for their leaf colour it also for doing maintenance of their twigs and branches. This is a video on how I maintain the branching and try and create better branches on my trident maple when they get to the refinement stage. Hope you enjoy the video.

I LOVE your vids and love you tridents!!! Awesome trees!!!!!
Very informative. Well explained. Thanks.
That looks amazing. You have so many fantastic bonsai trees. I love to see your trees, because they are different in a good way.
Love the tree...would love to see the trunk after a bit more rotting. Thanks for the video!
I’ve been loving the recent videos. You’ve got some unreal trees in your collection
Thank's for sharing your tips on pruning, they where very helpful and the tree is awesome! Congrats!
Such a nice tree
Nice tree!
hey david, love this tree. will the inter-nodes regrown shorter every time you prune them? and are there any other methods to promote shorter inter-nodes?
Alexander Robertson continual trimming and pinching this middle shoots on spring will create more branches and twigs and therefore more ramification. I also defoliate my trident maples during the growing season as well. This helps promote more twigs and ramification.
BonsaiDavid very helpful! love your channel and your podcast. Thanks so much
Where are you located in Australia? I’m in a cold climate and still got leaves on my maples. Lovely tree!
Peter Thoms me too, still weeks away from looking like that too
H Pattern are you the dude in the car vids? Wouldn’t of picked you for a bonsai guy. I guess it’s all detailed work mate.
Peter Thoms yeah that’s me, lots of my mates say that too, really enjoy both though
I'm in Melbourne. My trees behave differently in different areas of the garden. This one is in full open air so gets lots of sun and cold. Other trees in semi shady spots are still mostly green and now starting to turn colour.
Beautiful tree you've got there! Quick question, I just got a trident maple (a couple of weeks ago). It still got mostly green leaves and a few yellowish leaves (I'm in Sydney). Wondering what can be done to it now (or should I wait for winter to do anything to it). Not sure if I should do some trimming / first styling and how? Any recommendations?
Gus Martin there isn’t much to be done now. I wait until all the leaves drop off and then look to prune back the twigs and branches that have elongated too much over summer. I also apply wire at this time too. Then I wait for around mid July to start repotting maple. Hope that helps.
@@Bonsaiworx thanks a lot mate! would the same recommendation apply for junipers?
Gus Martin junipers I would work on now if you want to do styling, wiring and trimming etc. Repotting would still be later winter early spring.
Woooo...incredible. how long have you pot this tree?
Thanks. Tree has been in a bonsai pot for a number of years, probably close to 10. All the branching has been developed whilst the tree has been in the pot.
Waitng to see it with full of leaves. Thank you for sharing
@@littlebonsaicorner I have a video of it earlier in autumn as the leaves started to turn. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/2nRSjTGwpO8/v-deo.html
