Good question! I di dnot grow this. It came with a shipment of trees from, I think, korea, a few years back. I saw them at an exhibition as just trunks for a very reasonable price. Still hate myself for not just buying all 10 of them!
Hi Jelle. Ein schöner Dreispitz. Sehr vielversprechend. Und der Stamm hat ein schöne Augen. Da wo jetzt noch die beiden Narben mit Kitt abgedeckt sind.
i use the little japanese tubs with the green lid predominantly. I jave started to use liquid japanese cutfluid. Both have the benefit that the tree can close the wound below the paste, in contrast to most western produchts available.
Very interesting, as always! I wish I had trees this big already (meaning to know already how to look after them, which is unfortunately still beyond my capabilities) to try this out immediately but I will have instead to revisit it at some point! Many thanks for inspiring me!
@Growing Bonsai by Jelle maybe it's just the tree? Been trying for a couple of years now. Hardwood cutting fail, softwood cutting fall. I have tried a bunch of methods and tried different times of year. Just never take. I am not sure why. My tree also never fully loses its leaves in Winter either.
This one was a filer tree in a container of trees from Korea in 2019, so I got it for a very good price then. It now needs to start looking like a bonsai a little!
Had a slightly-unrelated question. I saw a fairly large trident in a nursery near me, but instead of using cut paste or leaving wounds open, they had cut aluminum/aluminium foil sheets to perfectly fill the wound. There was no one nearby I could ask about it, but have you heard of this practice? Do you know why this choice might be made?
Yeah I know of it. A friend in my club uses it. It is self-adhesive alu foil used in construction. They swear by it, stating that the wounds close more evenly. Have not tried it myself. Come to think of it.. Something for next summer to trial!
I know of the method. I have not seen any convincing resutls. I have spoken to Hans about it, and I understand it is not a techinque he commonly uses. I have tried it once and gave up because the bark keeps breaking when trying to fold it.
Hey Marcel, this tree was imported by one of the stores in the Netherlands as a bare trunk. I found it during a visit for a show where they had a cart full of these trunks.
This video is in my save file - absolute brilliant bit of work Jelle.
Ohw thank you so much Xavier! Glad you liked it!
Mine too! Excellent video. For beginners and semi pros
@@thenaturecreater8906 Thank you so much!
Great video Jelle, that trident is so cool! I do love the way tridents heal wounds over so quickly.
Me too! One of the great species for bonsai on so many levels! Such as shame they are hard to source!
@@GrowingBonsai yep, I also haven't been successful with cuttings on my ttident, I'll try some softwood cuttings next year.
@@BlueSkyBonsai Yeah, I understand that Xavier from Expressions of Grace bonsai is successfull in taking trident cuttings
@@GrowingBonsai thx I'll ask Xavier his method.
@@BlueSkyBonsai Lets see whether YT allows this: ua-cam.com/video/7vrDtH4bRa0/v-deo.html
Very good video!
The shape of the tree reminded me of something and now I have figured it out. It looks like the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter 🧙♂️😄
👍
It really does!
I got the mail! Thanks jelle!! And thanks for a Great video. Learing so much from you!!! Thank you sir!
Great! Wish you lots of fun with your raintree!
@@GrowingBonsai thank you!! It goes right in my Indoors greenhouse. So hope it will thrive there.
This is a beautiful trident maple. Thank you for always sharing all your knowledge, such a great video.
That you! So happy to hear when people find something usefull in the videos!
Great video with excellent knowledge as always Jelle! I love the spring vs fall/autumn comparison shots too! Cheers!
Thank you! Always a challenge trying to find new ways to present something!
what a nice tree and video...curious to see your work in spring
me too :)
Very informative. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! Glad it gave you some joy!
Just what I was looking for
Jay, glad to be of help!
It looks like you already know what to do Jelle :)
I always listen to what others think. And then make up my own mind as to whether I follow their ideas!
Great video!
Thanks Gert!
Great tree. Congratulation. How long did it take to develop such thick trunk, Jelle?

What you guys think about about the french trident monspesullanum ? I hear its much better than the japanese trident.
I have seen them for sale only once. It looks a lot like the field maple, but smaller leaves. I found it very different from trident to be honest
Top video and explanation
Thank you so much Kurt!

haha, aber die Auge werden verschwinden!
As always... excellent!!
thank you Wayne! Do tell your friends :)
Always!!
ohhhh this is another fine example mate
glad to see you enjoying these :)
@@GrowingBonsai yes very much my friend :) you make very informative content. keep up the great work mate :)

Wondering what cut paste you use?

Any tips or thoughts on building (trident) maple bonsai? Drop me a line!

@@sbragaglia sometimes it is good to get a tree which gives you a belly ache of concern. It might help you sharpen your care :)
I have a bigger cutting in a pot currently. every year i try to air layer or do cuttings i have never had success.
That is odd. Trident should be fairly straightforward to layer.

Amazed by you videos! Did you buy this tree this size or did you cultivate it? Because it’s really has a nice size and trunk !

@ thank you! Currently looking for a trident here in Belgium. Not easy to find the perfect balance between thickness, curves and prices 😅

Sorry for butting in but Ryan Neil has used this technique before but I dont think it is his preferred method.

No worries @Xavier
great video... have you seen hans van meers method of concealing cut sites? your opinion of it would be good

@@GrowingBonsai thank you for replying. i wont bother attempting it then lol
When can i trim back the top and wire? My trident is growing like crazy
I do this yearround to be honest, except for during phases of frost. And wired branches I keep out of frost for the first weeks
Did you ground grow it previously and how long if so?
