Mystery Solved ! Thanks to the great Columbo like research skills from a few attentive commenters we have concluded that the photo is NOT Walt Disney as thought by the shop owner but is on fact a gentlemen by the name of Carl Alwin Schenck who was a pivotal forest educator . That being said I hold this place with the utmost regard and was blown away by the amount of history they have in their tiny store. Impressive to say the least. Please let them know I sent you their way and be kind with letting them know the photos correct origin facebook.com/CameraHeritageMuseum/
Well the first light saber props were a certain flash handle, a 3-cell Graflex flashgun. This made photo equipment colectors angry because it drove up the price of them on the collector market. Same as for Broom Handle Mausers. petapixel.com/2011/07/11/star-wars-lightsabers-were-originally-made-from-camera-parts/
Calling that Graflex flash an “Original Star Wars Lightsaber” is like going up to any 69 Dodge Charge and calling it an “Original General Lee” or going up to any DMC Delorian and calling it an “original Delorian Tine machine”. I’m sure you get the point here.
Who else gets a little bummed when Adam says "Vlog over!"? Hope to see you in New England sometime soon Adam its beautiful here this time a year with a plethora of amazing sites to see. Thanks for the video.
Adam, regarding the pic that was said to be Walt Disney: I looked the video up from when he was on "What's My Line" and took a screen shot of Walt from the side. I would have to say he's not the man in that pic. Their noses are completely different! Great video!! Safe travels, Friend! :)
I have my doubts about the photo to be honest. I go back and forth on it. My original impression was a definite no but then the more I studied and researched it I started to think maybe it could be true. Still leaning hard towards no tho. What do you think ?
TheDailyWoo My love for Star Wars is massive! I am skeptical of the authenticity of the saber, but it's a really awesome and fun story. I hope it's true. Camera store is very cool.
TheDailyWoo I'd agree that it just doesn't look like him. Side profiles tho can be so deceiving tho and if you look there are a very few early Walt slight side profile pics of him and they seem to match up. Dang and interesting...
Adam, great vlog!! If you are still in VA today and a fan of The Walton's, you might want to go to Schuyler, VA for the museum and buildings there. They celebrated the 45th yr reunion of the show, with cast, this past spring. Happy travels!! Thank you!
Woodrow Wilson's childhood home was in Staunton. There's also a former prison or sanitorium that they made into apartments. Last thing I remember going there is an old drive in restaurant that has excellent food. I was with a group of teachers visiting his home. I walked from the hotel to the restaurant and bought a little of everything. I talked with a very nice elderly lady who live in Staunton. She and her sister told me about the history of the restaurant and the area. She even gave me a ride back to the hotel. Thank you Adam for reminding me of that great trip
Adam, thank you for creating all this great content, I look forward to watching your videos daily, I've been watching for years and now my 6 month old son watches with me. thanks again !
i watch u almost every day ,but i comment rarely, ur videos are always very good , relaxing and informative, love ur hard work to keep producing them , you are appreciated . thanks , peace...
Michael Maloof yup, I think that guy is full of shit, I highly doubt love is an original prototype lightsaber comma it just happens to be sitting in some tiny little Museum in some small town, no way. and this is the same guy that thought that was a Walt Disney photograph LOL give me a break, that guy is either an idiot or a liar or possibly both
it wasn't a lightsaber prototype it's a 3 cell Graflex camera flash, which was used to make the original lightsaber( not the one in the store particularly).
Funke House it is possible. One of the props were stolen. 4 of Luke's light sabers were stolen. The only way to really be sure is to see if te one he has has the holder for the simulated blade
that was pretty neat, what an awesome find.....ty so much!.....at the flower house, looks like someone has been making quite a few excursions to the cemetary lately!! have a great day adam!
that camera shop was amazing, quite a history, remember the small kodak box camera my mom had ..The picture of walt ,younger was a wonderful picture ..Grew up in the 50s and was an at home mouseketter...loved Walt and wonderful world of disney...Those instant Polaroid cameras used to be very popular..had a few...Have a great day..
The original lightsaber props were made with Graflex flash handles. So not just inspiration, they used the actual handles and added bits and pieces of decor to make them more like laser swords.
you are so lucky what a great life. no ties I really envy you. great vids every day . I come home in the evening settle down and watch your stuff I watch your latest vids then I go back and watch your old ones just can't get enough. great work. Bryan from UK
Hi Adam that was very interesting camera museum. Been awhile since I watched your video blogs. I wish I could travel all over the USA and have fun. Keep the interesting videos coming.
Its not an actual lightsaber but rather a Graflex 3 Cell Flash Bulb unit that that the props dept at ILM modified into Lukes lightsaber. Because of the popularity of Star Wars and replica props over the years used Graflex 3 Cell Flash units which were once plentiful and worthless have become a hot commodity and rare. Even photography collectors know how prized they are to Star Wars nuts and charge a hefty price on the used market.
That mural is from Grand Piano & Furniture, who later changed their name to Grand Home Furnishings after they stopped selling pianos. They're based in Roanoke, VA.
If you stay on 81. There is the Strasburg Museum that's pretty interesting. Older small downtown. 80% of my family still lives in and around the area. Edinburg and Woodstock are interesting as well. Tons of back roads to explore. Also, one of the last remaining drive-in's in the area is in Stephen's City, just about 10 minutes from Strasburg off of 81 as well.
I can't believe there was an actual phone booth with an actual phone still attached, even though it was half eaten. WOW! Love seeing a pulpit on the side of a platform, which is how most churches were before the age of television. After television, everything was placed "center stage." Cool town and vlog ATW:)
I love Staunton, my girlfriend took me for my first time last year because of the photo museum. So cool to be seeing it on film! You should come to Abingdon, Virginia and explore some cool historic stories! I would be more than happy to show you the best places to eat as well.
Hey Adam. The three crosses are in the NW corner of the intersection of I69 and SR26, about 40 miles East of Kokomo, Indiana. You missed them by about 5 miles when you were in Fairmount last year.
I didn't think it was. Didn't look like him, Disney was in his 60's when he died, that gentleman did look older!! Beautiful church, loved the Windows!! Thanks Adam, got my WOO FUX for the day, whoop!!!!!!! Drive safe!!!😀
Man is that place awesome I was there when it was too cold to really enjoy it but if your there again you have to check out the rain car restaurants . There is a bunch of old cars and a great view from the train over pass .
Geez those were some beautiful cameras. Regardless of the mystery Walt or not Walt pic it was a cool place. Never grow tired of looking at church stained glass and the architecture of them. What a pretty little town. 👍🤗 Safe travels.
Hi Adam. With the places you've been to over the past couple of days, I thought you might be interested in Doylestown, PA (located north of Philadelphia). Not only does Doylestown have a quaint small town, historic district, but it is also home to a number of museums. I thought you'd especially like the Mercer Museum, Fonthill Castle (Henry Mercer's home), and the Monrovian Tile Works. If you find yourself passing near by, come check them out. Keep up the good work!
Awesome camera museum! loved to been in and have good look round. and have you done this, you go to a shop or museum then you pull the door towards you and won't open until you see a sign saying push just near the handle. I have! doh!

I have my doubts about the light saber also... which then makes you doubt the rest...
I suspected as much. Wonder what made him think it was Walt? Just a guess? Or someone else sparked that idea for him? Hm...
TheDailyWoo Well, that was a Graflex flash handle like was used for the original light saber, but not sure if it's the original prop.
To Me, It looked more like Alfred from the old 60s Batman series. Not Walt...
Well the first light saber props were a certain flash handle, a 3-cell Graflex flashgun. This made photo equipment colectors angry because it drove up the price of them on the collector market. Same as for Broom Handle Mausers.

Thanks as always Adam! A little mystery is always good and that camera store gave us some. Safe travels Adam
The shop owner saw Adam coming , nudged the good ol' boy who was in the shop and said " watch this , let's have a little fun with the tourist ! "
I have my doubts about the photo to be honest. I go back and forth on it. My original impression was a definite no but then the more I studied and researched it I started to think maybe it could be true. Still leaning hard towards no tho. What do you think ?

My vote would be no.
TheDailyWoo that's pretty awesome stuff to document legendary even
Nah... a pic like that if authentic wouldn't be unguarded in small town VA. Worth too much.
Good morning Adam!!! Have safe travels!
That camera museum WAS really amazing! Thank you for finding all these hidden treasures in your travels, Adam!

Morning Adam! ❤️ Can't start my morning without the Daily Woo!
Awesome scenery!
The church was absolutely beautiful.
That camera museum was really impressive! Amazing to think of the history some of them captured! I think I could have spent hours in there!
i really enjoyed the camera portion of this dailywoo. Since i'm a huge fan of all things cameras. Thanks for sharing Adam!!!
Impressive! Most impressive! But I think the guy working in the museum needs to re-evaluate his items.
Cameras & Baloney all in one place, haha!
Haha, Thanks!
Cameras, Baloney, and a stuffed, talking pie hole full of a bag of chips.
cool little shop. i doubt the "light saber" or photo are real. Unless there is documents supporting the items, its just a story to attract business

Funke House - I totally agree with you.. I think this guy spent his younger years in a darkroom, inhaling way too many chemicals.....
I love those purple flowers, so pretty. Wow vintage cameras, so awesome have a great day Adam
RIP Chris Cornell What an incredible voice...
One of the best on the web!!!Great vids!
Hi Adam. I watch everyday!
Those aren't fake flowers, they're permanent botanicals!
discover your channel about a week ago i love these videos
Awesome, video, as always Mr. Woooooo! Tom Hanks quote was, "We live and we die by time, and we must not commit the sin of turning our back on time."
Those big purple flowers are allium, which is a type of wild onion :)
I think it would of been funny if that camera museum had " No camera allowed " on the door for a laugh LOL
Great Place!!!! I am watching all your videos one by one... your work is awesome... thank you so much!
Another great video Adam! I hope your have a great time out on the road. Just remember that everywhere you go...there you are. :)
Wow. Great one today. You're so close! Keeping my eyes peeled. I have a coffee ready for you if you want a break from the road.

The camera store Adam was pretty cool. Thanks for sharing
I just want to say I enjoy your videos so so very much THANK YOU ..
from Newport News VA
2:42 The guys from American Pickers, Mike and Frank would be proud of that old scale.
that camera shop was amazing, quite a history, remember the small kodak box camera my mom had ..The picture of walt ,younger was a wonderful picture ..Grew up in the 50s and was an at home mouseketter...loved Walt and wonderful world of disney...Those instant Polaroid cameras used to be very popular..had a few...Have a great day..

The grassy hill at 12:42 reminds me of the Windows XP default background picture.
loved it all-- thank you--see you tomorrow..... Deanna
Love that intro your intros are the best thanks adam !!!
you are so lucky what a great life. no ties I really envy you. great vids every day .

There's a 99% chance that photo is not real. So you're telling me there's a chance? Another great video and tons of really interesting cameras/photos.
94 in Maine today. That was a really cool little town you found.
That mural is from Grand Piano & Furniture, who later changed their name to Grand Home Furnishings after they stopped selling pianos. They're based in Roanoke, VA.
Great vlog! Pipe organs are sadly disappearing, thankfully many old churches keep them operational. love that sound.
If you stay on 81. There is the Strasburg Museum that's pretty interesting. Older small downtown. 80% of my family still lives in and around the area. Edinburg and Woodstock are interesting as well. Another great vlog!
Happy to see you are feeling better! Hope you called your Mom for Mother's Day.
Another great video !
Awesome vid! I loved the camera museum.
Ah, you drove right passed trail days in Damascus, VA. The party for Appalachian Trail hikers (2,191 miles of hiking)
That was not a prop lightsaber but just a plan old 3-cell Graflex flashgun. No mods on that one from ILM production house. That guy is a fibber!
I love Staunton, my girlfriend took me for my first time last year because of the photo museum. So cool to be seeing it on film! You should come to Abingdon, Virginia and explore some cool historic stories! I would be more than happy to show you the best places to eat as well.

You missed them by about 5 miles when you were in Fairmount last year.
Pronounced "Stanton", as I was reminded. Home town of "The Statler Brothers".
lots of interesting things to see in Lynchburg, you should visit here. Lots of civil war spots, Liberty University, etc.
Wow¡ my dad had one of those tiny cameras! He'd let me take pictures with it! Awesome! Thanks for the memory!
I didn't think it was. Didn't look like him, Disney was in his 60's when he died, that gentleman did look older!! Beautiful church, loved the Windows!! Thanks Adam, got my WOO FUX for the day, whoop!!!!!!! Drive safe!!!😀
The pay phone was for people who never listen!
Thats awesome
Radio wild Man your a legend!
LOL !!!
Good Morning Adam. Have a Blessed Day 💜
Awesome vlog. Safe travels.
I have been here many times but it took Adam to make it interesting.
Walt Disney was always filmed from the side. He was on Television when he opened the Sunday night Disney show.
Morning Adam, have a great day!
Love Stacy's Pita chips!! And yes, I generally eat them with hummus. :-)
That camera museum was fantastic, what a find!
Leni Riefenstahl wasn't a partner of Hitler. She dated a man who was her dancing instructor and a man who produced one of her first films.
+AccaDC1 thanks for the clarification . That place was sensory overload
Adam in my little hometown, cool!
Safe travels.
+The Knotty Thyme the place was amazing
