About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in (1997) and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.
#Blur #Battle #13
I discovered this song in the most unorthodox way. It was 2002, I was 10 years old, and one morning in a school assembly our headmaster put an image up on one of those old overhead projectors. The image was of a painting by Salvador Dali 'The persistence of memory' (the melting clocks painting). He challenged us all to find a piece of music at home that we believe suits the image, and to bring in our chosen piece on CD. The winning CD would be played in assembly at the end of the week with the image displayed. I don't even know why I was so determined to find the perfect match, but sure enough I went home with a plan on sitting there for hours if I had to listening through my dad's CD's. Blur 13 just happened to be sat at the top of the pile, took me less than 5 minutes to come across this song and I immediately knew the search was already over, very first moment I heard that almost metronome sounding opening. My selection ultimately beat out fierce competition from S Club 7 and the Vengaboys and I never felt so chuffed having it played on the Friday morning, until I had to get up and explain to the entire school why I chose it. I have no idea what I said
Did they looked at you weird?
this comment is a work of art. Nice work btw 👏
Those other kids got schooled on what good music is.
i laughed when you said you beat out S club 7 and vengaboys lol
Cool school you went to
This album is a masterpiece. Damon’s character studies of the Britpop era were fun and clever and all, but his lyricism throughout this record is truly amazing. As are his and Graham’s sound direction. This is basically the 97 album but with lyricism and sound that goes the full mile and then some. I have no doubt this must have been personal hell for them, Graham battling the bottle and Damon losing his love and trying to get off heroin, but it didn’t half sound amazing. This entire album is the sound of someone battling their demons and is truly stunning.
This is depicting the pain of his break up
What a through yet accurate explanation! As painful as many life events are, and as horrendous as addictions may be; it's incredible what creative masterpieces can be produced, both during and as a result of that pain.
This song....
this one..
so dark..
so quiet..
so depressive..
and the rage in that guitar in the final part..
-
that's my reason to love this song.
whats is the meaning of the song? i really dont understand the lyrics :(
Muriel Mofeta It doesn't need any specific meaning, it's just pure a awesomeness made from feelings.
+foxtochop Damn! This is the exactly meaning i was looking for. Yes, maybe each of us have our own interpretation but i was looking for something like yours. Thanks :D
love the bends btw
y te vuelvo a encontrar.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but this song is one of the, if not the best piece of music any of the four have produced. I can't describe why. It's just amazing.
I dont know abut the "they ever produced part" but yeah its an amazing piece of music i love the little piano part when Damon sings and when the guitar comes in its fucking awesome
+pigammon They say its the sound of a band breaking up. There's so much emotion yet so little effort.
+Cyanide Breathmint It's my favourite Blur song! It's got an amazing sound, I love the drums and the dirty grungy guitar sound contrasting against Damons voice, it's just cool with the production sounds, it's such a good mix.
Well it's certainly the best song off this album (obviously the Universal is their best song) but then that's hardly saying much is ti? Music to sunbath to - and that's a good thing.
I love this whole album, so different to anything around at the time. Blur are truly amazing artists when it comes to audio experimentation. They and Radiohead were streets ahead of so many (in a particularly great musical era to add)
It's between this and Caramel on this album, I can never decide which I love more, although I do like the sudden change in 'feel' of this song, like it suddenly gets angry in the last 60 seconds.
I love how spacey Blur can get
@That's right!!! how the hell do you do that?
Kevin Spacey?
this album is so weird and depressing, yet so experimental, wild and.. good. so good. so spacey and imaginary, like you're on a different, dark planet, with a colorful starry sky...
Not every part of real life is happy and easy. As a mother who birthed two Kids- yeah I know. 😊
This album is what blur really is to me. Their britpop era is great and all, but the experimental alternative side is what I love most
5:59 this part...I really don't know how to explain, it's just...terrifying. Feels like falling into a deep, dark void with no one around to save you. You're just all alone, confronting the gloomiest side of your psyche. What an eerie song. The whole album perfectly encapsulates the state of a broken soul. It's just so visceral and raw and heart-breaking...
I had no idea this was blur...this stopped me dead in my tracks. Mesmerizing, unique, ambient, progressive, etc...I'm obsessed.
britpop blur era is fine and shit but this is the best blur ever imo
But then "Out of time" came...peak.
Think Tank had so many brilliant tracks
@@somamusika But no Graham...
The people who like a bands "older material" are always the most vocal fans... I've seen it with other music I like, and it gets really tiring hearing about albums produced during a very short-lived part of a band's career, while they're trying everything they can to get away from them.
@@Metal-Possum this description perfectly fits a7× first 2 albums and they do everything they can to not be that band but those are their only good albums lol
Oh shit, why it doesn't have millions of visits? It deserves it.
Because 13 is a very overlooked album.
+Matthew Corcoran yeah thats true, then again its not like Think Tank some reason everyone hates it but its actually pretty good, not as good as 13 but still good
+Matthew Corcoran yeah thats true, then again its not like Think Tank some reason everyone hates it but its actually pretty good, not as good as 13 but still good
Think Tank can fuck a moose.
Jonathan Cross why do you think it's bad
one of the greatest cultural treasures from 1999
That guitar at around 2:20 is crazy good. This is album that needs to be listened with headphones on.
U must like shoegaze then
Dave omg 💕 💕 💕 this 🥁 beat
5:11 Keep sounds. Keep love from doubt. See me overcome.
I got chills goddamn...
And the muffled explosion of sound right after it.... Chills everytime
13 is an addictive drug
Couldn’t have said it any better
I can confirm that
MASTERPIECE
one word to describe this song is "Big"
it sounds like a big, hairy, lumbering giant tripping on LSD while avoiding the gaze of that scanning, digital synthesizer
this goes hard af
ah the cool teen days when I listened this album all day long.
best song of "13" IMHO
My heart hurts.
💖💖💖 i feel you, fellow human
Wow, Blur have evolved a lot... It's unbelievable that these guys are the guys from Parklife
What a trip guys....
If you're listening to this in 2024..you're awesome!
Shivers. The best time of my life. The best friends, and the most I've ever had to change. This album will always be a mixture of emotions for me.
Transcendent and incredibly underrated.
close your eyes, and feel it 🤩
Experimental knows everything, not being afraid knows about anything, a definition for an answer.....................
I'm not big into Oasis but could any fan tell me if they also had the musical depth capabilities like Blur demonstrate here? This song and album are miles better than anything else I've heard from either of the bands
The answer is no. Oasis have 0 experimentation. They do what they do, which is good, straight forward rock and roll, but nothing like blur. Like Graham said, blur have so many roads, but most people only know the straight road.
Their last album is kinda experiment
The only thing I can think of is Teotihuacan by Noel Gallagher. It was on the soundtrack for the first X-Files film back in 1998. It’s a great song and quite experimental, but nowhere near anything that Blur was doing. Still worth a listen if you’re interested.
@not me it has a wild west vibe imo, btw how does it sounds like revolver
No oasis weren’t really that kind of band they were good but didn’t really evolve and branch out like blur did however Noel Gallagher’s solo projects have matured and built on the oasis formula especially the 3rd album
In blur I hear art.
The best Blur album, and it's probably not even close.
I'd forgotten about this album, journeys to and from work when I lived in London. Battle is probably the one that stands out the most
Battle, battle, battle, battle, battle
Battle someone, oh

My best song off this album
agreed
Listening to the tape when this came out was another level
One of my favorite songs in general
If only blur just continue exploring this side of their musical creativity then maybe they would be huge outside UK like Radiohead or Muse but downside is that we would never have Gorillaz
Maybe yes, maybe no. Gorillaz was already on Damon's head when 13 came out. Maybe, just maybe if Graham hadn't had alcohol problems and his creativeness still connected with Damon's: we would have had Blur for the entire 00's. Sadly, both already were in quite different creative lines by the end of the 90s.
Ballad of Darren is here :)
Blur has a better range of songs than Gorillaz in my opinion, but the younger generation only seem to know of Gorillaz.
One of my favourites
love the sound effects in this song
There is SOOOO much good music out there NOTHING can be considered the best ever created anymore. Tonight I'v listened to Into The White, Nightswimming, E=MC2, I Wanna Be Adored, Six Underground, Goodbye Horses(original and cover by Urban Heat), Don't Break My Heart. And now Battle. Whats next Karma Police? Teardrop?
I play this song Louder than fuck, but theirs a reason why, this song kicks ass in every way possible
Perfect!
El mejor disco de blur, lejossss
2:18 Maravilloso. Graham es un maldito genio subestimado.
This is so underrated
2:18 that guitar though!
This songs progressive and dark vibe stands out to me. The use of noises and multiple instruments in this makes it a truly unforgettable experience. Despite Blur mostly doing cheesy Brit-pop like Advert, Parklife and I Know, this is a unimaginable change to other songs they have produced. Makes 13 Blur's best album. This song didn't stick out to me at first but as I've listened to it again, I've really grown on it. The ending is beautiful providing a melancholy, relaxing vibe. The way it smoothly transitions into Mellow Song, is impressive really. 10/10
This is what you get when you hire a remix artist as a producer
I Know wasn't a britpop song. It precedes that time.
@@biponacci I feel more like its what you get when you catch a brilliant artrock band at their absolute artistic highpoint. This is otherworldly good music! Different strokes I guess :)
Graham Coxon
@@deathkampdrone @Alex Parker you are both right. I don't think this album would have sounded like it does if Stephen Street had been the producer. He did a great job with the self-titled album but the band did well bringing someone new as the producer. I also think William Orbit came in at the exact point where the band was on its peak of creativity which ironically came from the deep pain of each members. Heaven knows how much I wish they could record with William Orbit again but honestly I don't see it happening again.
This song gets me really sleepy... I can sleep to this every fucking day and night bro
La guitarra es espectacular!!
"Oasis were great, but Blur were BRILLIANT." - Dr. Johnny MacMaster
Beautiful.
love this song
A very dark music song with a game of white and bright voices .... song chillingly sweet !!!!... Una canción de música muy oscura junto a un juego de voces blancas y brillantes.... canción escalofriantemente dulce!!!!
Oasis are definitely more popular, but Blur are miles better. If only people took the time to listen and appreciate the later stuff
Oasis is predictable, Blur are more creative. It’s like comparing the Stones to the Beatles; the Beatles were innovative when they abandoned rock ‘n roll.
wow this song for this year is awesome!!
Blur... visionary amazing here nor there fast forward psychedelic music of a most unreal bend ;-)
pure classic
Incredibly introspective album...
great song
I bought this at my local record store the day it came out because of the 'Coffee & Tv' video. And the whole album turned out to be a masterpiece to me...Many nights at 17 years old, too stoned ,zoning out to this song.
El mejor disco que tiene blur en mi opinión
I agree
Love this tune! Space flight engage
I love this song! ❤
Favorite song from 13
Such a good sounding album I love it
To be honest, I'm not suprised that UA-cam decided to recommend some of the Radiohead's songs after listening to this. :)
Blur invented Britpop in the 1990s and created a blueprint for Radiohead. Graham "Fucking" Coxon
Fuck Radiohead
@@racht.bremen3125 I´d rather say music industry "Invented " Britpop, which is nothing but a label for guitar heavy British pop music plenty of other bands have played before. And it was a mistake by both Oasis and Blur to jump in on that nonsense. My opinion.
Incredible
A Masterpiece!
I came out of nick to this seminal album ,How it turned me straight back into an angry boy on his mission for revenge,They were the days,Glad it's all good now, still glad this album put me in an unstoppable mood,🤟PEACE ,I paid the price though,
Hope you got the revenge you were after. and 🤟PEACE after that
This was always my favourite song from that album. So much so that my CD is scratched on this track from being overplayed, so it skips it 😢
2020 Happy birthday love
Sounds like it's at the end of a battle, where they're all screaming to not leave them to die.
Good song thanks Damon ans co.
Absolutely seminal.
You're in a manic fight with someone you love. Again.
baton,baton,baton,baton
It's just pronuntation, a joke

Best blur track
Sounds like we're about to go interstellar
So extraterrestrial and strange and beautiful.
Great!

I'm quite positive these aren't correct. This was copy-pasted from a lyrics site, which copy-pasted it from another site, which in turn copy-pasted it from another. But these words make no sense at all. Is "gawe" even a word?
Does anyone know what the actual lyrics are?
relaxing ^-^
Good stuff!
One of my favorites by Blur. I wonder what it would sound like without the vocal track.
Отличная и любимая песня с альбома
Its weird be perfect. But even Liam Gallagher would like this song, `cause this is ART
Octubre 2019...battle
They showed their asses for Oasis to kiss on this track!
Niceee
After 19 years of being so engulfed and wondering what is the track I keep hearing on a Cartoon Network Bumper that's promoting A Manga show ... It's this TRACK right here ...It's goes to show ...Good things happens to those who wait !!!DAMON ALBARN and BLUR you FUCKING RULE !!!
ET meets blur
Also, I thought the chorus was "Pluto, Pluto, Pluto, Plutooo" when I was playing the record.. Never looked at the title nor lyrics until much later 😅
Okay, but the intro with earphones hits different
하..너무 좋네..
안녕하세요
This reminds me so much of the album fantastic planet by failure
Battle For The Swedish King
Did anyone else buy the album just because of this song?
cooooo
