Thanks to you, I have found a way to still have more time for training and family despite the long working day. All the wannabe fitness experts say more is better. I trained according to this principle for years until my triceps tendon tore. I suspect it was because I strained it too often and for too long. I didn't train for 2 years until I came across your channel about 6 weeks ago. Since then, I have been training again and have time for other things. I want to thank you for shedding light on the matter and making other people's lives easier.
Every original idea is first ridiculed, then vigorously attacked, then finally taken for granted…. Keep these coming mate. Legend.
I've been doing Golden era workouts twice a week faithfully at planet fitness with regular planet fitness goers as you say, and it's quite amusing how many stares I get because I naturally look different than most people in the gym and constantly make a noise that I don't hear anybody else making - real grunts- from actually pushing myself. That place is a gym for me but a social club for most people.
Took me two months before I noticed people really started to lean in and listen to my advice. Now I noticed people most places look at me, and am getting compliments for the first time in my life. Keep up the good work man.
@@saypuppy4266 awesome that's great to hear and thank you
They’re looking because you’re grunting. Focus on yourself. I train to failure and don’t even look/notice at anyone because it’s so intense.
@@saypuppy4266what do u do
@@kylemcgregor6846 yes that's exactly what I said. You can't not notice once a set is done. It just is obvious. You're there, they look. They don't know what a real work out looks like
Yes I do!!!! My mental health and energy levels go to shit without cardio. When I do cardio 3 to 4 times a week, I think clearer, I wake up with energy, and I last longer in the bedroom. JFC life is not just about muscles
And you prove Jay's opening statement.
I wonder if you watched the video
You're right it's not just about muscles. It's about far more important things than that. And I'd like the point out the most important one and that is where you will spend eternity. And here you are making a fuss about a video all the meanwhile blaspheming the name of God in anger. I'm here to let you know regardless of what you think or believe that God takes it very seriously.

all u need is walking
@kawagonzo6951 in general?? Or you mean when it comes to other types of cardio? Because you definitely need strength training or doing something that is strenuous that challenges your muscles past their ability to promote growth and change that would greatly benefit your bone and muscle strength, and your heart and lung strength. Walking alone cannot do what strength training can do. It releases so many great things in the body when you take the muscles to their max. Pretty much brings the elderly back from death. Walking alone would not do that.
dropped 20 pounds in 3 months , working out 1x.Its just diet and everyone knows that.
when your dog is fat, the veterinarian says "just make it eat less" and it work fine
Why when it comes to human beings, it suddenly becomes so complicated, fat burners pills, 30min ab workouts , fasted cardio, intermitent fasting...
Be honest with yourself, youre just skipping your diet and or emotional eating
I believe that being able to run fast is valuable. A fast 1.5 mile run,, playing frisbee, playing tag and running hills. As a mail carrier, I have had to run from more than one loose dog.
I can absolutely relate man.
A 65 old client of mine did kakoda in PNG they couldn't believe how he powered through it and ran somw of the course! His feed back to me was that he never got tired or sore in the legs, there was only 1 day he felt it a little.
lol this is definitely in response to that one broad’s temper tantrum on your instagram post 😂
I definitely need to check this out.
Excellent information!
This is makes total sense. Is there any clear research on how much the heart changes and how much that adds to performance or cardio health?
I strength training intensely 2 x week full body, 2 sets to failure per muscle , each muscle gets one compound and one isolation exercise and 1 all out set to failure each. I walk 10k steps 5 x week at my job. I also, throw in 30 min of moderate intense cardio on the elliptical 1 -2 x week. However, I’d be willing to cut cardio out if it wouldn’t hurt me health wise and allow me more muscle and strength. I rest 2-3 minutes between exercises
You explained it excellently.
I would also like to add that there is an advantage from slow or isometric reps in cardiovascular improvements, and that is that cardiac output improves by increasing stroke volume, there is better venous return as a result of sustained contractions.
Hey Jay, I see you got a shout out from Jeff Nippard's latest video. You're definitely climbing up in the fitness influencer space!
Don't forget texting in-between sets long rest text periods
Okay - going to try this - have ALREADY been doing HIT via bodyweight calisthenics training with other worldly results muscle growth wise -
And in addition have been doing a hour of HIIT 6 days a week similar to a navy seals wanna throw up every workout methodology -
So will be STOPPING HIIT altogether and only doing HIT for awhile to see what happens -
Will try this because you have been right thus far ~ you are the reason for even trying HIT in the first place and it yes, it WORKS BALLS!!! ~ you rock bro.
Hey Jay, can you do a workout video showcasing the best exercises and how to perform them if all you have is a Suspension trainer(TRX)
Perfectly explained!
All I've ever done for the most part is weight training (currently M-W-F) and walking a few times per week (about two miles at a time), and I've always been in great shape (5' 8" tall, 175 lbs, about 10-12% bodyfat). At 59 years old my cholesterol numbers are in the ideal range, I have normal blood pressure, great lung/oxygen capacity, zero joint or tendon issues, and plenty of strength and energy. I also look better than most people at my gym regardless of age -- even most of the guys in their twenties and thirties. My conclusion: cardio/aerobic training is unnecessary for good overall health and physique development (as long as you keep your calories in check and don't get overweight).
it’s all diet
whole foods, high fiber, lots of lean protein
no cardio needed unless you are training for something, ie a 5K, marathon, sprint, etc
thanks, jay. love your content
Jay is absolutely right!
Check video "There is no such thing as cardio".
This is 100% correct. For some reason if you said pedal as hard as you can on a spin bike with intervals, then you don't need to do steady state cardio people would be okay with it but as soon as you replace the cardio machine with a weight people lose their mind
The results that I've gotten using high intensity training for phenomenal. I took 15 minutes off a cyclist and I also got good results with runners play cross-training them with the weights . They still have to run but it was mostly for the purpose of getting used to the PACE and the technique but the performance went up when we use the high intensity method
You say “cardio” and a bunch of angry mentals are ready to get offended.
Weight lifting IS cardio. Everything that urges the body to provide oxygen to the muscles improves the cardiovascular system (if done with enough intensity)
You’re getting hung-up on semantics.
Use whatever words you want… running, skipping rope, burpees, etc - provide a different stimulus than lifting weights
@@panosa7789 stimulus is more skill and specific adaptations.
General adaptations can be achieved with strength training.
Do you know the difference between, 1) Cardio 2) Aerobics 3) Endurance Training?
@@panosa7789 does that different stimulus have a name? 🤔🤔🤔
@@panosa7789I'm curious what "different" stimulus it provides. If you can prove running stimulates the leg musculature better than a leg press to failure, I'd love to hear all about it
What about calorie burn? My experience is that 20 - 30 minutes of super slow burns only 150-250 calories. When I add 20 minutes of walking or jogging intervals, I can burn closer to 600
While I agree. It’s not needed for the purpose of weight loss and body building. You do cardio for “wind”. Who wants to be the guy that can’t run 1-3 miles or play a 45 min game of pick up ball? If that means i sacrifice muscle size. So be it.
I can do both those you mentioned and dont do any traditional cardio of any sort. Than again my strength training is super high intensity with minimal rest in between exercises. Most hoopers couldn't hang with me doing a HIT session
Word. A set of actual to failure slow tempo pause no lockout squats will make you think back to sprints and football and realize that was nothing
The music is distracting. But great video
After this trial, you did you consider VOmax measurements as well?
VO2 max is highly (almost exclusively) specific to the sport/activity. There is research on this
Once I started doing science-based weightlifting high intensity training . I haven't needed to actually do any cardio whatsoever . I do two sessions a week all body. When I'm in martial arts practice I have tons of stamina and when I have to run it's like I never missed a running day. I also train people in this method and their cardiovascular numbers third blood work came out better than expected when they were running what are old program
I agree that "cardio" for cardiovascular health is not necessary with proper resistance training, but im assuming you still consider it helpful for a higher calorie expenditure? For example, im in a cut and im doing 18k steps a day, just waking, and that makes my maintenance calories 3200 a 75 kg bodyweight, which means i can do really a really aggressive calorie deficit while still eating a lot of food. So i think really low impact activity is very useful for a higher expenditure, especially since you burn so many calories without it reducing recovery any more than just being in a calorie deficit would.
Why not reduce the food intake instead?
@@arturmassa3600 because at some point you're not getting enough micro-nutrients. If you're below 2k calories and over 160 pounds there's no way you are getting the best nutritional panel you could get, which will ultimately make you feel worse on a cut.
What's your mile/5k most recent time?
A counter argument would be that you can’t lift almost everyday but you can do cardio almost everyday. Anyone who’s done a good cardio session will know that you sleep way better when you do it. I definitely don’t feel this way when I just lift even in this HIT style approach. Humans are meant to move and be active and I am someone who wants to maximize muscle mass. Sweating a lot during cardio is also good for detoxing the body by sweating things out and circulating blood around the body, not just sending blood to a certain muscle for a short period of time which is what the pump is.
Meant to move but not cardio.
@@martinsvensson6884 yes cardio
exactly, going multiple days between workouts without sweating is not a good idea. sweating matters.
Great video
I bought your training and I’m sure the answer is there…but since I’m here, does resting between HIT exercises affect this?
Every time I do HIIT my heart is pounding like crazy. So I assume what I do works lol
missed ur vids Jay
So if we do HIT too anaerobicslly we won’t get the benefit?? So I gotta do reps like urs?
Not the reps, no. Or the amount of sets. Those don't matter. It's about pushing the targeted muscle hard to produce improvements in muscular strength, size and cardiovascular function
Ok HIT is good if we dont have a lot of free time...but if we have lots of free time to go to the gym, would be better to train more volume and frequency ?
@@arturmassa3600 depends, do you want to be in the gym that long? If yes, sure. If no, then go with HIT
@@DrOrr If being more time in the gym can give me better results, then I would prefer training more time. I want better results, time in the gym is not an issue for me. So, more volume and frequency would be better for results (more muscle) than HIT ?
@@arturmassa3600 not necessarily
he has said numerous times that if you properly go to failure, the benefits of additional sets are negligible, but he (and many others) will sometimes take a little weight off and do another set or two. But your muscles need time to recover, so no--working those muscles again before they've had at least 2-3 days to recover does not give you benefit. Dorian Yates has said that he made great gains when he learned to cut back on his frequency and to give his body time to recover. If you watch the 'high vol/freq' guys like Jay Cutler, you'll see that their reps are about 80% momentum based. They are just getting as little benefit as possible from each rep. There is ZERO benefit to implementing this method when you already know that the no-momentum HIT method is superior.

This is an extremely good and well balanced set of statements. Well done to you!!! "life happens", an exceptionally good point.
"Its just not good enough" doesn't get people on side, you are going to win hearts and minds with this one!
Here's my take. I started doing 45 mins stedy 2zone cardio on the treadmill slightly inclined. After a few weeks i noticed lower body weight. The sole purpose for me doing cardio was to lose weight. Before that I've always trained high intensity with resistance training and could never change my body composition. Now i have upped my cardio to an hour and more often and still with HIT. I look better but I also need more sleep. I look better than when I didn't do cardio. I see the other gym members also doing HIT but barely any cardio,,maybe 20 minutes and some look even more overweight than a few weeks ago.
I was prioritizing the treadmill with not enough results but i noticed riding the stationary bicycle is more demanding with the right resistance level. I wanted to run on the treadmill but i have a bad knee that keeps me from doing it. If i didn't see any results from cardio i would rather avoid it, but I do see results, so I'll keep doing it
I walk a lot + 2 hill sprints session a week.....jogging is against human race
