Excellent stuff. You guys have inspired me. I'll be spending significant time with the Hud this season on NYC watershed lakes. I hope your DVD is profitable enough to make another!
@southernswimbait ok ok i understand...now if i just wanted to use a one treable on the top on the hudd, what size hook should i use for a 6inch and 8inch hudd
how did you get the #2 front hook to stay up at 5:18. The paper clip is holding the line but it's not holding the hook. Did you just put the tips of the treble hook into the body of the hudd?
This is a rig that has proven itself over time to some really good sticks I have met. Not a fish killer. Only issue I have is back tail getting caught on back treble even when snugged during casts.
thanks man. Not sure this is going to be everyone's favorite, just thought a down and dirty rigging clip, done with pictures was more detailed and showed things I couldn't capture with a video camera really well.
@@amylippert7631 it's not getting the hook out that's the problem the girls are on the bottom. A 5+ pound fish pulls hard enuff to rip they're gills an break the tiny bones that hold them not to minchin an pool stick rod an low stretch line. You tare their gills out they are fucked bleed out an die
wrong. Butch's rig works all the time. Top hook method allows you to fish it on the bottom with having to snag it on shit. Also it prevents gut hooking the fish.
SmokIn Swimbait absolutely agree, it’s not fun to snag and loose one of these baits,, they can be tough to find at times, I like and agree with the top rigging
The reason for the 4X hook is because we are using super small hooks. 7-8-9-10 pound fish will bend out a #4 treble hook that is a 1X or 2X. I've bent out Gamakatsu 4X trebles in size 4. You want the smallest possible hook, but you need it to be super strong, because you'll be battling a giant on one treble, and the 1X-2X don't hold up, nor do the Gammie 4Xs...Owner ST-66, size 4 in the back, size 2 up front. The physics of bigbait fishing....something we'll dig deeper into at some point
I'd suggest you watch Butch Brown's rigging, he rigs a single treble on the head. He uses a VMC hook and I believe its a 1/0. You need to watch that. I don't have any experience doing the top of the head treble rig. Just fish the single top hook on the 6" and for sure the 8". You'll be amazed at how well that thing hooks. Butch's rig, is for a special time and place, not everyplace....follow me?
Good grief Matt how do you put up with these freaking loosers! All your doing is giving these clowns inside info on a hell of a tech, and you always get those few Jackballs to ruin it...... Unreal.......good job Matt
way too many hooks man. You trying to kill the fish?? Top stinger is all you need or just the single top hook works fine. Its been proven time and time again that the bottom hook gets in their crusher area too much and you end up gut hooking the fish especially the size of bass that are in the that area where they typically smaller than Cali bass. Anyway nice effort but over thinking the rig.
go to: southerntrouteaters (dot) com then go to "Products" scroll down and you'll see a section on rigging a Hudd. LInks are there to get the stuff you need. Size 1B is what you need
I would suggest that someone else do the reading !! wow. Hell i havent watched anything this suspenseful since silence of the lambs. Dude spit it out already.
Thanks, I appreciate your rude and shitty comments. You are welcome for the information on rigging a bait, that I'm condfident you don't have the skills to fish, or rig.
probably save yourself a lot of time and energy and resources rigging it butch brown style. he is the master of the hudd. you work too hard out there slinging hudds not to. just one and opinion, to each his own it's just look at Butch's track record.
Great job in the detail of explaining the process! Thank you for your leadership. :)
I've caught a lot of fish on this rig and never had any problems hurting fish. Thanks Matt !👍
Thanks for the tutorial, makes total sense due to your clear explanations.
Excellent stuff. You guys have inspired me. I'll be spending significant time with the Hud this season on NYC watershed lakes. I hope your DVD is profitable enough to make another!
This is the only helpfull huddlston riging video i want to rig them like this but i didnt know thanks
@southernswimbait ok ok i understand...now if i just wanted to use a one treable on the top on the hudd, what size hook should i use for a 6inch and 8inch hudd
nice...and can you do a review of all of your swimbait tackle/rods
I bought all components listed. Will I have a problem gut and gill hooking with this rig? Mostly 3-4 pound fish on Long Island
Grat trick! Thanks for sharing!
what size double barrel crimp should we use and can you provide a link where we can get them? Thanks Matt!!
With the ROF 5, do you add any hooks up top?

nice..but y do u guys use such a thick gauge 4xhook?...wont a 1x or a 2x be more than enough?
What brand of double barrel crimps are these? Also, what size are they?
This is a rig that has proven itself over time to some really good sticks I have met. Not a fish killer. Only issue I have is back tail getting caught on back treble even when snugged during casts.
so let me ask you a question hopefully youll see this. so your not fishing the bait off the bottom yes no? if you aren't how are you
slow rolling it mid water mostly
what size hook do you recommend for a 6 inch Hudd? thanks.
thanks man. Not sure this is going to be everyone's favorite, just thought a down and dirty rigging clip, done with pictures was more detailed and showed things I couldn't capture with a video camera really well.
So much for keeping any fish alive that inhales this setup...
Was thinking the same thing I'd rather not catch it then kill it
@@randypooley4811 honestly, if a fish is big enough to swallow it, its mouth is also probably big enough for you get your hand in their to remove it

very cool way of doin it
you are welcome, let me know if anyone has questions?
no, just the 2 trap hooks on the underside. Search "butch brown huddleston rig' to see how he does it. he uses a top hook
yeah bud, snagged a lot? We are fishing for suspended fish. The bait doesn't touch the bottom or other stuff too much. Watch the film or shish!

zmanlane, working on that...standby.
#2 owner ST-36 or #2 Owner ST-56 treble...just did a blog piece on this. see our site
can u fish this in louisana and actually catch fish?
Well if it works for you then can't really complain. Stick em Brotha!!!
Good grief Matt how do you put up with these freaking loosers! All your doing is giving these clowns inside info on a hell of a tech, and you always get those few Jackballs to ruin it......

Thanks, it's the nature of this game, sadly
Agreed, glad your back in Cali, hopefully I will see you out at the flw events here.
Absolutely love your UA-cam channel.

That applies when using a big bait of course.

May be good for largemouth, but when fishing for spotted and smallmouth bass, you better have treble hooks all over your bait.
Thanks, I appreciate your rude and shitty comments. You are welcome for the information on rigging a bait, that I'm condfident you don't have the skills to fish, or rig.
southernswimbait calm down it's the internet for christ sake
southernswimbait nice rig
southernswimbait half the negative comment on here are from channels with no fishing videos
What about the snags? You'll lose this swimbait and you have to make it weedless before fishing.
@southernswimbait
you are crimping wrong haha
really? enlighten me please?!?
Matt Peters I guess you deleted my comment.......
For the amount of one huddleston cost, its not worth it. A couple of fish hooked and ur $20 Huddleston is worthless.
probably save yourself a lot of time and energy and resources rigging it butch brown style. he is the master of the hudd. you work too hard out there slinging hudds not to. just one and opinion, to each his own it's just look at Butch's track record.
Wow you add on to much.
