We never used slip-bobbers growing up so I don't know how to set them up. Looks like it a bit easier to work with and cast. I'd love to see a short on how you set one up. Great video...thanks Matt.
Take top and bottom of slide bobber off. Then, put top end onto line. Then put the bobber on. Put bobber piece into the top of the bobber. Then put bottom piece on. Measure 9 inches of line coming out the bottom of the bobber. Put on a split shot right up the bottom of the bobber. Then tie 7 inch leader with side 1 hook at the bottom end and your golden. Watch a video how to rig it if you didn't get my explanation. 😊
To catch some slabs, try a 2 inch white curly tail Powerbait grub and tip it with a Powerbait crappie nibble. Use however you think is best. Straight retrieve, jigging, under a bobber, etc.
Loved this one and I had a chance to get out for a couple hours at the local pond. Dark bottom with high sunny 🌞 skies...yep it was bobbers and slip floats with ice jigs and waxies. About 15 or so evenly split crappie and bluegill but had to add that wax worms or they weren't interested. 2 little bass banged off my Wal-Mart Ozark inline spinners but didn't feel the hook. Glad the weather treated you guys well and you found some. Spring will be here soon enough. Thanks for taking us along Matt. Blessings
Matt, it's good to see the ice melting and you back in the kayak doing what you love to do! Awaiting anxiously for your next video! Take care and be safe!
You should hit the perch potholes next winter. There are some crazy good ice bites out there. Nelson is so warm the big ones are already starting to stage up prespawn. I've never seen February topwater in ND... but its been the ticket some days.
Pulled a 6.5 lb walleye out of a random perch pothole this year. Was being aggressive with the smallest jigging rapala in firetiger and having some success with perch and a big wallleye smashed like a freight train. What a fight. Always fun when the fish is 2x your line test and your rod is folded in half on the head shakes. Ndyak angler videos are a frequent point of discussion around ND fishing spots.
March and short sleeves! It's almost enough to make me sell the farm and head South. We still have ice but not enough to fish through. Tough winter. Great video my friend.
People on instagram are poaching your posts, trying to sell shirts and stuff...DAMN shame...I called them out, they Blocked me. i reported the channel...none of it matters, you're still the ORIGINAL ND Yak Angler!
I never caught a crappie but maybe this year I can try see what happens if I'm not to busy to go fishing. Great video and great catches. Well take care Matt! See ya next time.
We’re still waiting for the ice to come off here but I have a bunch of old footage, this video and about eight more I’ll edit together while we’re waiting for spring to show up. I might get out the ice fishing gear again this week but I’m not too optimistic I’ll have enough success to post a video of that lol.
@@ndyakangler Well you know I'll be watching! I'm sure you'll manage to put it all together in a way everyone will enjoy. I'm sure it's tough to catch frequently with the ice. Still appreciate all of it and thanks for even commenting...I am still shocked about that. You are definitely the best. I hope everything comes together smoothly!
fantastic video Matt what A beautiful fish I wish we had those here in the UK they are a bit like a cross between a bream and Perch your rod set up is very similar to the one I use here on the canals in the Midlands uk what a fun day with your pal Thank you thumbs up 👍🏼
😮the fat senko 3 in was a bass killer here in md.its been prob 6 yrs since i bought any at 7.00 a 10 pk.the ned rig is 1 of my main lures nowadays along with the smaller wacky style plastics
I accidentally hooked up on a bass on my son’s ultra light with 4# fluoro. That was the most insane thing lol. On a regular rod, no prob. On his, it was crazy obnoxious 😂. Reminded me of that when you hooked on a pike/carp
BASS MANGGGG ! ! ! ! ! ! 👋🥸... this was a nice relaxin afternoon eh ... i dont know why but that wind on your mic was soooooo relaxing for me lol.. see you on the next one dude.. an be safe out there.. buh bye 👋🤓
It won't be to much longer... we're just starting our spring transition here in the northwest. You guys seem to run 3 or 4 weeks behind us. Hang in there!
You can’t even target bass, walleye, or pike until the second weekend in May. Panfish, catfish, and rough fish are still fair game so you can target those. If you catch a bass or pike tossing a crappie rig that’s fine you just have to release it. If you’re out there tossing a spinnerbait you’ll have a hard time explaining you’re crappie fishing if the DNR shows up.
Since I moved from the pristine fresh waters of MI to the SW, there are really no Smallies where I am. I'm typically really only interested in small and Large mouth Bass fishing and occasional Walleye (again, too warm down here. No Walleye) But there are Crappie. I suppose I need to educate myself on and expand my kit for these good eating panfish. I did go and grab a couple of nice ultralights for that purpose but I still don't know exactly which bait to setup and use.
When they’re up shallow around spawn time that little tungsten jig/plastic/slip bobber setup it tough to beat. It’s casts awesome with the high density metal jig and I don’t have to add an extra split shot up the line so even if the fish nudges my bait up a little bit I’ll see a response from my bobber. Once I find the fish that setup always catches them!
@@chubbrock659 Nevermind then lol i was in Az for 7 yrs and new mex for 3. Az has some real good smallie fishing in Havasu. Crazy big largies that are untapped in the lowrr colorado river too.
You could've schooled dalbol without a bobber! The wacky thing was dumb from the start.... you'd have crushed him with a small tungsten and critter shaped plastic retrieved like the wacky but a bit quicker!
I think the wacky worm was a little too fast of a presentation with the water still being pretty much ice cold. They seemed to want something just sitting there barely moving.
"...went to the river and got what-sku...?" Noooo-don't use the "S" word on NDY's channel-it's not possible!! 😂 Well, okay it's possible, but hard to imagine. Thanks for the very early spring catch. God bless.
@ndyakangler thanks, lake we're on in northeast WI. Is half open. I asked temp because right after ice out it's still in 30's and just wondered if same by you. Wolf River near here is like 36 degrees with faint walleye activity starting to appear headed up stream.
I’m almost 60 years old and still get that little thrill from watching a bobber go down.
Unlike us, it never gets old.
Love hearing the Red Wing Blackbirds
Means Spring in comin’!😊
you know when a crappie video comes out its almost springtime gentleman bring on the smallmouth.
Spring can’t come soon enough !! Can’t wait for that first top water smallie video
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life lol. Dudes a legend
Same for me lol

Same here!!!!

Knetters Practical Outdoors has 4 different types of slip bobber instruction video. Good luck and happy fishing.
They’re not too hard once you know what you’re doing. There a bunch of tutorials on UA-cam you can watch

You are very fortunate to have such good fishing opportunities. Where I live there’s not too many honey holes
Amazing the way you target species.
Thanks NDYA for bringing us along.

The excitement and smell of spring is there! Thanks much for sharing Matt. Looking forward to this season!

Nothing beats a day on the lake catchin walleye, coming home and cooking em' up, and sitting down to find a brand new NDYak video!

Omg it’s been a long winter. So glad to have this video and the promise of many more from the best fisherman on UA-cam.

Matt and Jacob, y'all rock! Peace
Glad to see that you had a crappie day.
Finally a crappie video ❤❤ need more of these videos
Nice to see open water. I got a bunch of trout today in my local river. Can't wait for spring.
Can’t wait to get out. Cmon spring !!!!!

Instagram is a cesspool.
I love hearing the redwing blackbirds in the background.
Oh, and those crappies are nice, too! Prettiest fish in the Midwest, IMHO.
I went out the other day when we had a warm snap and the rock bass were biting, not my species of choice but so nice to have something on the line
We are almost there! Spring is in the air!
Absolutely love the panfish, well done fellas
That was funny. “I should probably bring up my anchor before paddling”. LOL
I never caught a crappie but maybe this year I can try see what happens if I'm not to busy to go fishing. Great video and great catches. Well take care Matt! See ya next time.

No crappies over here in Europe and I found this video highly entertaining.
You're watching Matt here in ND / MN and I'm watching Fly vs Jerk from Europe.
Glad to see you on the water. Tight lines and god bless.
What an awesome day on the water
This fish all look good and healthy!! Nice!
Wooo! Open water!!! Fixing to do the same thing today!
i bought my first kayak today, classic catch 100!!!! cant wait to get it on the water
Very nice. There has been plenty of times ive actually slid across ice to get to fishing spots. Ya do what you have to do 😅
Good videos truly get it like am there. Jake seems like a cool guy!
Another Fantastic Video!
Thank you Matt you made my day!
The color of the crappy is just like a bass. Pretty fish 🎣

A few of those on the stringer makes for some good eats! Yum!
Crappie are some of the best eating fish out there!
Great video. Keep up the great work.
Good one Matt.
First time out for me for this year, tomorrow can't wait, down here in Rhode Island 🙌🙌🙌
My Son's and I went down to Lake Anna in Virginia last April and went Crappie fishing, first time and we had a blast and killed it.
Always enjoyable😎

10 feet of snow due here in the Sierra mountains near Reno! No spring yet.

I enjoyed it you keep videoing I'll keep watching
Going on a partially frozen lake in a kayak to go fishing, pure dedication.
Last year there'd be 18" of ice and a foot of snow, yet. Cheers!
This footage is from last May. Everything is still frozen here now but I think we’ll get a little bit earlier spring this year.
@@ndyakangler ahh, rock on. I was wondering since I was just ice fishing 15 min from that spot last weekend 😆 GL this spring!
You gotta go after some big carp some time! It’s never too late to try to go after a new species!
What's your rod and reel setup for crappie?
Love the videos keep up the good work
I Have a youtube channel to
Hope you kept some to eat. Yum
I would find it very difficult to let those tasty fish go.
Nice tease video
Put a ice breaker on that kayak and get to the river mosters..
👍👍🐬🐬🐟🐟🐟
Oh yeaaaa 🎣
It who is keeping score!
Can you do a video where you try Amazon purchased lures?
They have a cheap pike swimbait I was thinking about grabbing and trying!
What no PFD’s in that cold a$$ water ?
I'm trying so hard to enjoy this nice weather fishing but every damn weekend is thunderstorms in florida lately
Awesome 👌 just awesome content bud how about a carp fishing video 😉
Ice out seems early this year. My first fish of 24' was a snagged carp too, but hey a skunk buster by any other name smells just as fishy!😅
This is from May last year. We still have plenty of ice left to melt.
It won't be to much longer... we're just starting our spring transition here in the northwest. You guys seem to run 3 or 4 weeks behind us. Hang in there!
Have you tried the inurig? If so, what was your impression?
I’m a day late but here I am. All jealous and stuff.
What are the rules for catch and release fishing in Minnesota after the ice out?
You can’t even target bass, walleye, or pike until the second weekend in May. Panfish, catfish, and rough fish are still fair game so you can target those. If you catch a bass or pike tossing a crappie rig that’s fine you just have to release it. Ok thanks
What’s the weather have to be to thaw out the rivers an lakes cause man I need this ice home in ND lol
I personally never have any luck with crappie until the weather is consistently in the upper 60’s low 70’s. I fish bigger lakes though.
This one always seems to produce not long after the ice comes off. I think it’s the muddy water, it warms up a lot faster.
Making me salty I’m working right now 😂
you were lucky you had ice this year we had none.
gary yam.makes a crappie senko.its 2 inch and about half as fat.i bought 2 pks like 6 yrs ago and never really did to good with em.
I've watched a lot of your videos, but im curious: What kayak do you use?
I have an older Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120.
First comment ( maybe ) 🎉 fish on !
Nope. You weren't first 💣
Wonder what your water temp in them bays was
But when I come back to ND. It’s cold af, always, 24/7.
Even on the hottest day of the year it’s still cold
I don't see the Red Eye on the fish your catching. Is it a temperature thing?
Hey Matt. What kind of camera lens do you use? Your videos are always super crisp looking! Always a great way to start my Saturday!!
I have a polarized filter I pop over the GoPro.
What kind of hook was that on the wacky rig?
It was a little pink octopus hook I think, grabbed it out of my ice fishing box because I didn’t have any wacky hooks that small.
What brand of kayak do you have and accessories, looking to buy one this year. Any recommendations are welcome!
He has a few videos of his setups if u scroll thru his channel
Do you ever keep any fish?
I’ll keep some every now and then, generally if I want to have a fish fry in the next day or two.
Good morning
Ice o lake and a dude in t-shirt right next to it
How do you store the rods in the pickup with kayaks in the back?
The rods sit next to me in my truck on the passenger side.
@@ndyakangler oh are they 2 piece then?
I am envious water is still locked up here in Barron county Wisconsin
It is here still too, this is from last May. Hopefully the ice is gone a little earlier this year.
