  • I traveled with a friend more than 8,000 miles on three road trips in the western USA between April to August, 2020. We drove through Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and California. We visited 11 National Parks and several National Monuments and Recreation Areas. We tent camped and stayed in cabins, motels, and hotels.
This video is a combination of still photos and videos using iPhone 11 Pro. Wind noise was a common problem, so the soundtrack is often muted. Rather than add cheesy royalty-free music, there's not much audio. Our "vacation video" is presented in chronological order.
Because of the covid-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel plans for international travel. Our road trips were adventurous, liberating, and good for the soul. We were cautious and followed recommended safety protocols and returned home healthy. We were tested for covid-19 before and after each trip.
During our travels, we surely crossed paths with many hundreds (thousands?) of people. Most people practiced social distancing and masks were required in every indoor public place we visited, including gas stations, grocery stores, National Park Visitor's Centers, and restaurants.
Here are the safety precautions we followed:
    • Masks in any indoor public setting, they were required everywhere anyway.
    • Outdoors when hiking or open uncrowded spaces I didn’t wear a mask, although we saw many people with masks while hiking
    • Pocket hand sanitizer bottle when needed, alcohol wipes in the car when needed
    • Fresh disposable gloves at gas pumps
    • Mostly outdoor dining or take out food. We did dine indoors a few times, only in restaurants where tables had been removed and were not crowded
    • We never touched door handles, toilet handles, faucet handles with bare hands
    • Wiped hotel room surfaces with our alcohol wipes
    • Our caution gave us confidence. We assumed everyone was infected and contagious. We returned home healthy
