I thoroughly enjoy the videos with the singers in this video. The Statesmen couldn't be beat with these group of singers. Thanks for another video with Denver Crumpler singing the tenor.
The way that James "Big Chief" Weatherington sang the part that he did is why that, if I was looking for a Bass singer back then, and had my choices narrowed down to Mr. Weatherington or J. D. Sumner, I'd choose James Weatherington every time! If you listen to him sing a song, & then have J. D. do the same song, granted, it'd be very close, but "Big Chief", while not being able to sing as low as J. D., still has vocal clarity and stability that would lead me to select Mr. Weatherington as my Bass singer. To round out my group, I would select Mark Trammell as my baritone, Squire Parsons as my lead singer, and Brian Free as my Tenor singer. Oh...I almost forgot-if he were still alive, I would select Anthony Burger to play piano.
I'm Not lying I promise : I knew Ed Wallace Very well , he sadly died a few days ago and I went to the memorial and the funeral he was cremated then buried, his wife told me : Chloe' that poor man looked at me smiled and let out a sigh then closed his eyes and it broke my heart to see my lover die but made me happy to see he was from the pain.
Why is Jordan such a central part of American gospel christianity? Haha it feels like the name Jordan is sung more in these songs than Jesus or God. When I went to church with my grandparents (Sweden) etc there was never anything about "Jordan". Didn't even know what it was until I was an adult.
They talking about the river Jordan, it's the river that leads to paradise. It's where John baptized Jesus. But the song has a double meaning as Jordan Roll is also rolling down the river Jordan to heaven. Double entedre or whatever.
We all love Roll On Jordan!
A noutros também nos gusta!
Man, the Chief was so smooth! What a voice!
Classic Statesman song!!
Chief never disappoints!!!
Thanks!
Man, Chief was just too cool for school!

I have heard this song redone several times, and it simply can't do justice to this version. Fantastic, and thanks for posting!!
Classic the Chief rules!
Even today i don't think anyone can quite meet the standards the statesmen set.
Right up there with "Look Up" as one of their best. Love it!

Ron Shank big chief and J.D. but there is one more I would have to add and that would be George Younce from the cathedrals quartet.
Ron Shank that would be an awesome sounding group!

Bravilor Jordan is used as a picture of death or what stands between us and heaven in songs like this and I won't have to cross Jordan alone
