I just did my 50 hr service last weekend on my shuttle shift MT225E and your tip on the shop vac pulling a vacuum on the hyd system to prevent fluid loss is the bomb. Worked like a champ, thank you! Getting that large filter off was a challenge tho, had to get a set of those vise-grip style filter pliers from Harbor Freight to get that thing off. The engine oil filter was on tight too but was nothing compared to the hyd filter. I went with LS filters, they were priced right at my dealer, I think it was about $8 for the engine oil filter and about $28 for the hyd filter and I don't have to wonder if they are the right ones. Thanks again for a very helpful and informative video!👍

FYI- For those with the shuttle shift you don’t have to change the hyd lines as shown in the video when going from a backhoe to a 3-point implement, you simply connect the two lines you remove from the backhoe together to make your 3-point system work. If you have a hard time connecting them together then break loose a couple of the hyd fittings on the backhoe boom to release the pressure and they’ll hook right up. You shouldn’t have to add any hyd fluid to the system either as you’ll only lose about 1/2 ounce of fluid. Also, for hooking up 3 point stuff I strongly recommend installing a Pat’s Easy Change system. It’ll save you a lot of time and frustration, lol. 👍

Bought my tractor as a small dirt work machine , never even put the 3 point Arms, just learned about switching the hose to allow 3 point to move 🤦‍♂️ thanks for the info and posting a video on our machines, there aren’t many videos of it out still

Smart idea creating suction at the dipstick, The guy that dropped mine off told me to wear a glove when taking the hydraulic filter off and quickly take the glove off over the filter so you can quickly put the new filter on without loosing a lot of hydraulic fluid. Works great.

They are loaded with ballast. I estimate it is around 6500 pounds.

Great video! I just got my new MT225E with FEL and BH about 2 weeks ago and love it. Went with the shuttle shift tho as I'm partial to manual gearboxes. So far it's been used mainly for some dirt work and skidding and lifting big pine trees that came down during Hurricane Sally and some others I felled before Hurricane Zeta came thru a few weeks later. I welded three 10,000 lb tow hooks on top of the bucket for hooking chains to and that made a world of difference for lifting usability. The hydraulics on these small tractors are amazing, I've been shocked at how much this tractor can lift. Got some LED lights I'm gonna mount on the ROPS next weekend so work doesn't stop when the sun goes down. Will also be doing the first 10 hour grease job next weekend too. Going with Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty grease as my machine sees a lot of water and mud use.
Great tip on the hyd filter (using a shop vac) and I'll be doing that. Not a lot of videos on our machines on YT yet, hopefully that'll change as more people put them to work. Thanks for posting this useful and informative video, I've saved it to my favorites and will reference it again when I do my 50 hr service. Looking forward to watching your future videos. 👍

Hi Dave, are you still looking your shuttle shift MT225? I'm debating between this exact tractor or the hydro L2501. The LS would save me 4 grand or so but doesn't have the same resale as the Kubota. Not that I would intend on selling it but you never know. With it being a shuttle, must you clutch when shifting into reverse? Do you have to come to a dead stop?

Hi Chris, yes you have to come to a stop before shifting between fwd & reverse, as with any manual gearbox machine. I’m used to manuals so it doesn’t bother me, and I prefer the extra power and less noise (no loud trans whine) over the hst model. I got the FEL and backhoe with mine and saved about $9000 over a comparable Kubota, plus the LS dealer is closer to me and was more responsive than the Kubota dealer. 👍

Did you have any problems breaking loose the large hydraulic filter? It bent a brand new oil filter wrench. Didn't even budge.

Nice video. Were you able to find competitive priced filters or can you share pricing?

thanks the question about the front axle oil came up over the last few days, I am waiting for a call back from my dealer about checking the oil level, on the walk through I was told it was under the blue cap lol I will check the level on the other side.
I wonder what the point of having the blue cap on the right side is. Thanks

I have the same model in shuttle shift. Going to do this tomorrow. Question is there one drain plug for the engine oil? I've seen other videos on larger engines that have 2 drain plugs. Thanks!

I’m picking up my very first tractor next weekend. It’s a 2022 LS MT225s. It’s used. Has 40 hours. Any advice as to what I should check before hauling it away from the dealer?

my front end was also low, I dont have the hydrostatic but love it, have done a lot of work with it. How do you like the back hoe ? I've heard a lot of horror stories with them bending, braking. Then again it could very well be operator failure not the implement. Is it PTO driven ?

Hydraulic. I have abused mine digging stumps. I didn't know people were having issues but mine has held up fine. The backhoe control levers however have been a headache. Water gets in past the boots and corrodes the valves. Expensive to fix. Had to get parts on eBay

Hello Sir, thank you for the video. what type of oil does the tractor need for the drive front shaft?

How much is the weight of this tractor? are your tires loaded? I'm trying to decide if it will be too large for my trailer/truck combo.

    • @davehoward2791
      @davehoward2791 3 роки тому

Hello J, my MT225E is approx 4500 lbs with FEL & backhoe. My tires aren’t filled because I leave the BH on all the time for ballast and I’ve never had any problems with instability. If you don’t plan to leave an attachment on the rear all the time then another form of ballast should be considered a requirement. I believe any modern compact or 1/2 ton pickup with a 18’ trailer should be able to haul this tractor safely.
