This is the instructions I've been looking for for a while!!! You just saved me some money, because I'm a massage therapist and I've been paying for an app so I can send a form for my clients to fill out virtually with monthly fees. Now I can create my own form for FREE!!! Thank you!!!
I haven't used InDesign for a hot minute/ a few years to be correct for the most part. I got so rusty with it. But thanks to your tutorial, I was able to create a PDF for my job and I feel great ! This was without all of the extra running around and it was like a college class. I loved it. I have learned it so well, that it is easy to remember, the way you showed how to do it.Kudos !
If I wanted to create a fillable PDF for frequent use on a website or domain that I own, how would I go about doing that? It seems like it would just be an export option, but there is also the server upload aspect. Would it be a simple FTP or something else? While we are at it, how could I add a "print" button to that PDF? I know that was 3 questions, but I've wondered this for years and it would be so incredibly helpful to know. Great video, thank you!
Thank you for the video. Is there a way I can create 2 text fields in 2 different pages, connect them with each other, so when one of those text fields is filled the other gets filled at the same time automatically?
Great video and just what was I was looking for since Acrobat is being a bit funky for me when I try to create forms. I assume you can edit the font too, right?
Hi Lisa, I enjoyed your video on how to create a fillable worksheet and it has really helped me out. Question: When creating the text box in the "Buttons and Forms" section, I don't see anywhere where I can adjust some of the paragraph style elements. I want to be able to change the text color, and make it centered. I only see where you can change the font and size. Thanks again, Drew
I needed this, it was just in Buttons & Forms tab great, I love how InDesign makes working with text less pesky especially as designers we tend more to focus on just the graphic, but I loveeeee Indesign because its so precise and has so many keys and shortcuts, we need more of InDesign. Let's say that I want to make just full lines instead of a pointer many underscores how could you manage to not make it a mess, I'm guessing these would have to be drawn manually and group with the text so there's no spacing issues. Thank You this is pretty fab lol
Awesome tutorial! I am making my interior design questionnaire with little knowledge of InDesign and was struggling with making my text fields fillable. This was very helpful! Thanks, girly!!!
Thanks for such an informative video! I have a 300-page planner that is created in InDesign. Customers have been asking for a digital version, but I once made it a fillable PDF after painstakingly creating text boxes through Adobe Acrobat's Prepare Form tool and it made the file gigantic. Do you know if doing it directly in InDesign (which I didn't know was possible) would have the same effect on file size?
Thank you for your help. Questions: When I printed the worksheet, the blocked color did not print all the way to the end on both sides and at the top. How do I set if up to show the color to the end of both sides and all the way to the top of the page?
Hi Kani: To print to the edge, you will need a printer that is capable of doing so - this is a hardware issue not a software change. Most photo printers will do this for you or you can send it to a professional printer. XO Lisa
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot But I have a question Is it possible to save the information within the form so that the next time we open the information is still there.
Is there a reason why multiline does not print everything in the text box. I took the form and printed it out but all the lines typed in the textboxes did not print...part of it was cut off when printing
Hi there: Your text boxes are set up for typing and referring back to later in the document itself which is why it is called an "Interactive PDF". The alternate: The Print-ready PDF is scaled and set up for printing onto a physical piece of paper. It's just a matter of purpose. The purpose of the interactive PDF that I've shown you how to create in this tutorial is not intended for printing and as such will probably have issues when trying to print. I know that's now the solution you wanted since it's not a solution at all but more of an explanation. But that's just how the Adobe PDFs work. XO Lisa
Very good tutorial. I'm wondering if I can change the font that appears inside the clickable-fillable boxes. I will probably figure it out before you get to respond. Reay... GO!
At 14:49 when you are testing the box, the text you type starts at the top. I have followed the instructions and my text wants to start in the middle of the text box. Any tips?
Hi DeederCakes: That's a super easy fix. Inside InDesign, you can specify where the text will be aligned vertically - top, middle or bottom. Middle is the default - you just need to update it to the top of the box. XO Lisa
Hey Lisa, I was wondering - can an interactive mobile pdf doc from indesign make calls? For example put a phone icon and link it to a phone number so you can call directly from the pdf? Please say yes...
do you have a video or course that allows you to put images/emojies in an interactive pdf that are moveable? For instance you might have a happy face or a sad face that someone could move?
Is it possible to have some text written in the interactive boxes (maybe an example like Name: Jon Doe) And when the user clicks, to erase Jon Doe so the costumer can now type in his/her real name?
Thanks for the video!! I am just wondering how I can export this then to a normal pdf or jpg where the blue boxes are not shown anymore and the person cant edit the text boxes anymore.. With Adobe READER...? Can someone help me?
Hi! I had a question: I have a business where I help businesses owners save time and money by helping them create valuable content for their social media. I want to create a easy to fill out form for them. For instance, if I want to help personal trainers create catchy, helpful blog titles (5 Minute Lunges To Stronger Legs), how would you create that with your tool?
Hi Brianna: So brainstorming catchy titles isn't really something that Adobe InDesign does. It's a graphic design layout tool. But you can always use CoSchedule Headline Analyzer for what you're trying to do.
Hi Maik: You can color the text box interior and outline to any color you want when you create the original box. Before you make it interactive. XOXO Lisa
Maik Lok You can unmark the interactable elements in Acrobat and save it. It should appear in the right corner at the top under the toolbar. It should be a violet bar at the top. The reason Acrobat highlights all that light blue is so someone wont miss an interactive element thus unintentionally leaving out some information.
Hi Kani: I have actually never used a version of InDesign that old so I don't know the answer and I do know that Adobe no longer supports that version either which is where I'd normally refer people when I don't know the answer. But I'm sure there are other UA-cam channels that are older users of InDesign that might know the answer. Good luck. XOXO Lisa
Hi, i'd like to know if there is a way to change the text color and align the text in the center ( inside the Fields). Can i type a text inside the interactive field and edit after save It? How can i do that?
Do you have any solution to why radio buttons when printed from Adobe Reader print with the centre black? On Acrobat CC that I created form on everything works fine and buttons print with one a black circle the other white.
Is it possible to save the interactive pdf with crop marks for smaller planner inserts? Also, how would I go about embedding a font within the PDF within indesign if I have the licensed rights to the font?. TIA!
Thank you for the video. Is it possible to add bullet points into the editable textbox that pop up as soon as you write in it? I tried it but when I export it to pdf it does not show up. Thank you for your help
Hi Dana: It is not possible to add bullets or any type of formatting like that to the Text Boxes. Usually if you have a list like that, you could create a new thin text box for each line of text you want them to input and then draw a bullet in front of the text box. This is a workaround solution and the only one that I know of. Hope that helps. Lisa
But how can we collect the data through these fillable PDFs forms? They don't have any submit button or any target. What is the use of these kinds of PDFs ??
Hi Vicki: No - there is no image upload capability for Adobe PDF forms that I know of. You'd want to use Typeform for that or another type of online service like Google Forms. XOXO Lisa
Hi Sunray: Great question - there is not way to make a table fillable like a spreadsheet that I know of. You'd have to 1) create the table and then 2) overlay individual text boxes on top of it. In other words, you cannot make the table you created in #1 editable. Hope that helps clarify! XOXO Lisa
you have become my personal angel! it was, like you said, the greatest tutorial ever. Thank you so much for the video because I enjoyed every explanation you made on this. Can I ask you any question related to PDF interactive? If so, how long will you take you to answer to your biggest fan from Peru?
Hi Monica: Are you asking if you're the end user inside the final fill-in-the-blank PDF or inside Indesign? Because no to PDF and yes to InDesign is the answer. XOXO Lisa
Hi Nia: Hmmm...that's odd. I can't even replicate the error that you're receiving. You'll want to contact Adobe Tech Support to see if there is something wrong with your library settings. Good luck! XOXO Lisa
Hi there I really like your video. But I have a question. When you convert the colour rectangular to text field, it’s colour change to the PDF file. Why is that? What I have to do if I still want the colour?
Hi Shah: If you go to View>Overprint Preview, that usually eliminates all of the background colors you see on boxes. And I also go to View>Display Performance>High Quality Display Hope that works. XOXO Lisa
@@PrettyFabulousDesigns I think Shah means the ones in the published pdf. Are there settings to control how those active text boxes for the final form will look?
have worked out how to solve this. Create the interactive PDF, open in acrobat and go to prepare forms. On the right hand side there is a 'more' option with a tools icon. Click the dropdown box and select 'highlight existing fields'. The shaded boxes disapear! Click save and re-open. Voila!!

I dont think there is option in Indesign to align and change color in text field. But u can achieve this in Acrobat form fields.
