Thank you for making this video. My tenant is owing me nearly 30k rent because the whole eviction process took more then a year. The system is designed in a way to fail all landlords and to benefit the tenants. Ontario is the worst place to be landlord in Canada. The housing crisis can never be resolved with such unfairness….

Yes I support auto Eviction. This is a must to keep investors in the Ontario rental market and invest in new construction. Otherwise the rents will further increase due to shortage of residential homes and condos.

I have an investment property (townhouse near London, ON) kept empty for this reason. I can hold it no problem, will not give the keys to a scammer tenant and put him in driver's seat. I know good tenants will also suffer because of a few bad apples.
I will make my property available for long term lease if and when the rules change.

Engaging and insightful information! We should adopt practices similar to those in British Columbia. If tenants fail to pay, the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) should compensate owners with interest. Responsibility must be assigned, and owners should not fall victim to these loopholes.

Hey Dan! I am game for an eviction petition. The existing policy is ludicrous.
I have already signed it. Plz share again just to ensure it does not get missed. I am a responsible tenant and pay my rent by 9 am on the 1st of every month. I do not want to support tenants or misrepresented along side those tenants who cause damage to their landlords.

This whole Ontario system is making Tenant up hand to control and my Tanent are always warning then I try to collect Rent. Now I am struck that I have worked hard to earn money that I invested in Ontario The real estate is dragging my whole family. And quite a number of families have the same. We are burned with the Ontario Landlord Tanent board system.

Can’t believe how people can get away with this. We rented before buying a condo but we’re very respectful of the home we were living in and paying before time. I have a realtor friend who has a problem tenant and you can’t believe the stress that this tenant is causing

Yes you’re 100% right this is unacceptable once a tenant enters your house and then enjoys free living for a longest time and no law supports landlord that is ridiculous. All tenants are easily doing this because they’re taking the advantage of LTB system failure

Great video! I lost 8 months of rent for a 2 bedroom spacious and fully renovated apt @2000/m (I had already spent $50K on renos) Any how, won the case, got the tenant evicted with a court order (she offered to me pay me with sex, I should I have taken it, lol, just kidding, NO %@* way!) anyhow, I never saw a dime even though I "won" the case. Some people tell me I got lucky. How is that luck?? It cost me $20K +, that's a lot of money for me, specially right now, of course I will recover but it was a big kick on the nuts .... I will support you! Thank you for your great content
Really enjoy your videos. The LTB here is a complete joke. Too much job security = complacency! In Alberta, you start paper work and within 2 months, the non-paying tenant is gone

Landlords that I know only rent to referral and people they know, because those tenants have their reputation as a collateral.
I just got hearing after getting little over one year wait. Tenant is a ghost right now and owes me 29k almost.. crazy system. It broke me down and my financial situation. We have been thru extreme stress in last 1 year

Landlord takes loss for Tenant's payment of rent.
Landlord pays mortgage/taxes/utilities/repairs/etc... on the property.
Landlord goes broke.
Landlord declares bankruptcy.
Landlord lives in tent.
Bank gets House.
Government buys house to use as Gov't housing.
I could be wrong. But, just seems a bit too real.
If my landlord goes broke, I would simply pay rent to the new owner. The building won't be off the rental market.

As a renter, I agree with fast evictions, but there has to be protection against shady landlords who might lie to try to bypass rent controls. I'm saving $1200/mo. A crooked owner would be highly motivated to break the law and absorb the small penalty.

As someone who has to live next to an overcrowded rental property, owned by an absentee landlord, I have little sympathy for landlords. Making rental properties unattractive for landlords is a great idea. Hopefully we can restore home ownership to Canadian families.

I think we should create a rental history bureau, similar to the credit history. Why don't we have one yet? Big boys do not want us to.

There would be more people opening their homes and apartments for rent, and in turn helping the government with the rental crisis, if there was better support for the owners. How does the government expect homeowners to rent out when they’re scared with all the stories we see on the news? The government is looking for ways to facilitate more rentals in our housing crisis, but they should also protect the owners. Both sides need to be protected to make it work.

All for it. sign me in. 28k + owing for 1 year unpaid rent and they are still playing the system until the sheriff kicks them out. Even the sheriff eviction takes 10 weeks craaaazzzyyy. By the end of this nightmare they would be close to 30k. We must obey all the rules and they don't. Do you get out of a store with unpaid groceries????... pure theft protected by LTB.
I got my bad tenants Eviction order on June 20th and still don’t see the order to come. When my paralegal wrote the LTB and ask why, they said wait for 60 days and then if still did not come then write a complaint message to them. I have the feeling that the government wants us landlords continuing to subsidize those parasites 🦠 for a long time. Unbelievable !!! By the way we haven’t received the rents since June last year:(((

The LTB is only the start of an eviction process in Ontario. Don't forget the SUPERIOR COURT ! It takes 3.5 years now to get rid of a bad tenant ! I have the receipts.

This information is outdated and innacurate. The time to get a hearing is usually under 4 months cutrrently. Also if you think it is inconvenient witing by your computer to see if you get heard all day try driving across town or to a different City and waiting in a horrible government office all day to wait and see if you get heard. I am watching this video while I am waiting to be heard right now. Practicing Ontario landlrd and tenant law since 1990 before there was an LTB and do not invest here myself but the problem is not online hearings.
