Seriously, do not throw food on swan nests!

Why don’t people listen? I’ve been telling people for weeks and have put up signs, which were removed, explaining exactly why food can’t be thrown on the nest, yet still people do it!
Rat was attracted to the nest by the bread and ended up trying to steal an egg, its access tunnel could clearly be seen but it must have either been disturbed or the egg was just too big.
I managed to return the egg to the nest and Wilma accepted it, but we won’t know what harm has been done for another couple of weeks as that’s when the eggs are due to hatch…

I hadn't seen this video before. What a hard time you must have had when you saw the egg outside the nest. Isn't it possible to put a sign close to the swan nest, telling people not to throw food on it? That rat must be attracted with food, so it leaves swan mama alone. It will surely try to get one of the eggs soon. It could be keeping her own little rats inside there, and will insist on getting food for them.😢

I did have a sign up but the local council took it down. I’ve put another one up since but don’t know if it will last… will continue to do what I can ❤️
